![]() Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat By: Soleus International Inc. Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 214 More Information Corrosion problem We ordered one about 2 months ago and another about 1 month ago after the first seemed to be working very well. However, the water in the pan of the first unit started to turn blue a week later. This is getting worse and the efficiency of the unit has dropped. It is collecting very little water now, even in very humid weather. The blue color is also showing up in the second unit. I have not opened the units but am assuming that the blue is from copper salts coming off of corroding cooling elements. Soleus dehumidifier I highly recommend this dehumidifier. It is efficient and quiet. Has different power modes and humidity modes to choose from to get it just the way you want it. Easily portable. Product died, poor customer service I liked this dehumidifier fine for the four months that it worked -- then it died, despite me keeping the filter and the unit meticulously clean. Soleus told me to send it back (at my own cost) and theyd replace it. I was a bit disgruntled at this extra cost, so I asked why Soleus couldnt pay the return shipping. The customer service rep said that if I had called within a "reasonable time," Soleus would have paid. I asked her to explain how there could be a reasonable time for a breakdown since presumably a well-made product wouldnt break down at all. From that point on, she ignored my questions, quoted the warrantee at me, and got progressively ruder. All three reps I spoke with were equally rude, and they flat out refused to let me speak with a manager, telling me that their managers dont speak to customers! Im sending the unit back for a replacement, but I will never purchase anything from Soleus again on the basis of their poor customer service. died after 18 months worked great till the orfice tube got plugged up or lost freon. theres no freon filter like your car so.. i called the co and they said sorry no filter in future plans. its a shame because it works awesome when new. debating on buying a new one every 12-18 months. doesnot last long Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat I purchased this item August 10 2007 from you and it lasted less then 13 months. I do not reccommend that you buy it. About a month and works great... Bought the Soleus a month ago and my basement is dry. Went with the smaller one and it works great. It is quiet to me, but I cant hear much in the basement anyway. My wife cant hear it and she has the hearing of a cat. Extremely happy so far. I did hook up the constant drain, it was too much work emptying the bucket and a little messy. Drain is easy to hook up. Soleus Dehumidifier This is working quite well in a very damp storage room. Its a little tricky emptying the the water but its a minor inconvenience. Its easier to dump the water before the container is full. Its a very quiet machine. quiet runner About the only problem suggested by earlier reviewers of the Soleus is reliability. Weve had the Soleus 25-pinter for about a month. So far, works like a charm. It is very quiet. And in our basement, the machines constantly running fan is an advantage. I might mention that weve had 40-pint Soleus running for months down at my university departments office. No problems -- and it, too, is very quiet. Nice quiet unit but no where near 25 pints/day The Soleus Air CFM-25E is indeed a very quiet dehumidifier and it also draws a low 200W in normal operation and about 24W with just the fan running (it always runs). It however wont come close to extracting 25 pints per day under most situations. The reason is because the 25 pint/day rating is for 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30C) at a relative humidity of 80%. If Soleus specd the unit using the AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) criteria of 80F/60%RH it would get about a 15 pint/day rating. Under the conditions I have used the unit, around 75F and 55-60%RH (according to my little indoor thermometer/hydrometer), Ive observed less than 9 pints/day with it set to continuous operation mode with the fan on high which barely kept the humidity stable. If you have a small space, probably 250 sq ft or less, that needs dehumidifying and you want a quiet appliance then this one is for you. For me it is far too small for my 1,050 square foot apartment so Ill have to buy something much larger or save the electricity and live with the humidity...until winter that is! Efficient and Quiet This dehumidifier works great. It is very quiet, sounds like a typical oscillating 13inch fan. I was very surprised on how little noise it makes. It is also pulls quite a lot of moisture from the air. I have a moist basement and I empty the storage tank once a day. I run the machine literally 24 hours a day and have had no problems at all. I cannot think of anything that would make this product better! No more humid, musty order I read the pro and con reviews and decided to buy the item. Glad I did. Why? Immediate fast free delivery - worked first time out of the box. Basement orde4r gone within five hours. Have not turned it off since delivery and pulls water out of the air like we cannot believe. Removing the water container and emptying it is no problem. Most quiet dehumidifier! My Soleus does a great job taking moisture out of my basement air. It is the most quiet dehumidifier Ive ever owned, especially in "quiet mode". The manual is very user friendly and I like the controls on the unit. I recommend this product. Soleus Air CFM-25E I bought this dehumidifier based on customer reviews at Amazon and elsewhere. Its quiet and simple and Im very happy with it. I only wish the capacity was higher (in the summer in DC it has to be emptied every couple of days). Quiet is the key feature. I bought this because the reviews all said how quiet it was and its true. I can use it in my bedroom at night and all I can really hear is the soft sound of the fan. Ive used it almost everyday for about two years with no problems yet. The only cons about it is I wish it had a digital setting so I could keep it on longer. The lowest humidity setting I can get out it on "Dry" is about 60%, but it does have an always on button so if I leave the compressor on all the time it keeps my room at a nice 45% humidity. I turn it off if it gets below that. I highly recommend buying a digital humidity gage to know what the humidity is in your room if you buy this product. It would also be nice if it had an automatic restart if the power goes out. But overall Im happy with this product. soleus cfm 25e only had it for a couple of weeks, so issue of will it last a long time is too soon to say. Pluses... very quiet, air comes out cool. Negatives... Tricky to remove collected water without spilling a bit. The receptacle that the water goes into is shaped like a "u" and when full there is very little room for error when carrying it to wherever you empty it. Quiet, Small, & Efficient Initially I was surprised at how quiet this unit reportedly is, but after having it for a few months, I can confirm that its both quiet and efficient. Its perfect for the times when its too humid to be comfortable, but not hot enough to have the air conditioner on. Its so quiet youll hardly notice it. Broken after two summers Product worked well but does not last. I only used it for about four months in the summer. This is my third summer and it quit working. Work fine! El producto es muy bueno y extrae toda el agua del ambiente. Es increible la cantidad de agua que saca en un dia. Solo es un poco pesado y mas grande de lo que aparenta ser en la foto. Quiet, simple, effective Removes a satisfying volume of water with a minimum of fuss. Although mine works mostly in the basement, where it pulls out about 40 pints a day, but it is easy enough to lug to where it is needed - for example, to help some new plaster dry on a humid day - and it is presentable for work in a living space. Researching this purchase it was hard to find what size dehumidifier I needed - some kind webizen persuaded me that, if more was needed, two smaller units would be more flexible than one large unit anyway, and more effective in an area with poor air circulation. Im glad i went that route. Does the job very well I use the dehumidifier in my (very wet) basement. Its a little small for the size of my basement, but the product works well. I have to empty it about once a day. As others have written, the bucket is difficult to carry. I solve this by keeping a larger bucket nearby and dumping the water right into that. Its easier to carry. (And I use the water for my flowerbed to help conserve!) great dehumidifier! this one is really really quiet! I have it in the basement and I cant hear it until I am about 7 feet away from it, and its on high.. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the bucket for the water is awkward, no easy way to dump it without making a mess, no "spout" to funnel the water out.. I didnt hook up to contstant drainage because I want to be able to move it from room to room.. but all in all, it works and its very quiet! broken after a year it broke after a year of use, no single drop of water is collected anymore. And I cannot find a local dealer to repair it. My other humidifier, although much louder, works perfectly after 5 years in my basement. niflty machine Operated without a glitch right out of the box. Nifty machine. Great sale price of $139.00. Thanks Amazon. Broken when received. Customer service the worst. Product would not start. Discovered guard piece missing and tank broken. Customer service reps are terrible and they did not care. Spent weeks attempting to resolve. Gave up and sent back. Everything I Needed With a damp lower level, I needed something this summer to keep the humidity out while not becoming a major distraction. Larger dehumidifiers did the job but were heavy and loud. The Soleus Air dehumidifier caught my eye as a way of getting some of the benefits of the larger dehumidifiers, while not having to deal with its disadvantages. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this product performed. First, it sucks the moisture out of the air like a champ. Running for a few hours a day, I was emptying the tank once a week. The moisture downstairs has subsided signifigantly and the product works as advertised. Sound wise is another area I was thoroughly impressed. While its not "whisper quiet", it is quiet enough that you can function normally in the same room as it. You can even sleep with it running without it having too much effect. Id measure its noise to that of a medium sized fan. Overall its everything I was hoping for out of a dehumidifier. It removes the moisture at a reasonable noise level. Its efficient and most important of all, portable. I can carry it from room to room or to different parts of the house with ease. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a furnished basement looking to eliminate some unneeded moisture while not disrupting your daily lives. Excellent product, innovative design This is an excellent product. The design is completely different from traditional designs. It runs quietly, with a small fan running continuously. My old sears unit was off most of the time and then would start up and run for a few minutes while making lots of noise. The noise level is so low with the Soleus that we dont even notice that it is running. Thanks Soleus for bringing a new approach to an old problem. If you need a unit that will be operating in a living space (instead of a basement) then this is the one to get. Very Pleased with the product I have excellent feedback on the product. It works extremely well in my enclosed breezeway in high Oklahoma humidity. I empty once a day but that with temps in the mid 90s and humidity in the 80% range. I recommend to others. Easy to use and Good to buy work like a charm, and dehumidify water vapor in my room. first time i use, it sucks a lot of water vapor, then the following use is not that effective, and i thought it is defective, but then later on it work well. i guess you need to give it a few tries before concludes it is defective. Good product This dehumidifier is a great little product. Its quiet enough to use in a bedroom and does its job well. My only complaint would be that the tank is a bit small and its shape is odd, making it hard to empty. The tank sight guage is also almost useless since its difficult to tell if there is water in the tank under the best of conditions. Otherwise, it works well. Very easy to use, effective, and quiet Im writing a review of this because I bought one of these units for a downstairs small bedroom that has a lot of humidity due to adjoining our shed. The humidifier works great and does what its supposed to do (I monitor the humidity with a little separate device). It lowers the humidity from 75% to 65% for us, and we need to empty the tank roughly once a day. Three weeks ago a tornado swept through our area and lightning hit a tree outside our house. Due to a power surge or something, a lot of our equipment got ruined, including this unit. We quickly ordered another and it is working fine. Works just great so far. I purchased this dehumidifier about three weeks ago and its just great. Its not loud at all. It takes so much water out of the air in my basement. It even makes the basement smell cleaner. I love the auto cut off when the water tray is full. Not heavy at all and easy to move around. So far so good. I recommend this product to anyone needing to rid their house of moisture. Does everything promised but DEHUMIDIFY!! Yes, it is nicely designed, portable, runs quietly and doesnt throw off much heat. Now if it only functioned as a dehumidifier! In a damp bedroom, reducing the relative humidity by a mere 5% is unacceptable. Perhaps this new unit isnt even working properly. Back to my loud, hot but DRY Sears unit. POS THIS P.O.S. IS JUNK. THE 1ST ONE FAILED 4 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE. REPLACEMENT FAILED OUT OF THE BOX. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIMED "NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL, NEVER" AFTER FURTHER PRESSING, "ITS RARELY A PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY I DID BUY FROM AMAZON. HOPING TO GET MY $ BACK. Horrible customer service This product will not restart automatically upon a power outage. The serious problem is customer service. When mine failed to work properly after a little less than 1 year, it took several phone calls, and about an hour on hold to be told that my only alternative was to mail it to California at my expense for shipping both ways and I would be charged $45 per hour plus parts. The person on the phone could not even give a rough estimate of the time for repair. When I explained that I first called Soleus about the problem while the product was still under warrantee, and that I had a case number, it made no difference. I was told that I would have to pay for the repair, which I declined. Unfortunately, I will need to put this piece of junk in the trash as there does not seem to be any local repair options. Works great Never owned a dehumidifier before and ended up choosing Soleus Air based on a number of positive Amazon reviews vs competing brands. I have been using the Soleus Air CFM-25E for over a month now and must agree with all the good reviews. Runs quiet, easy to use, easy to empty...all around good job w/ no issues so far. FYI, the 25-pint is a good fit for my room which is about 20x20. Very good This thing really is quiet. Ive found that when our power goes out, I need to unplug this for about 10 seconds before restarting it; after that, everything works great. My only con is that the fan runs continuously. Eventhough its pretty quiet, I would prefer the fan not run when not dehumidifying. However, that aside Im pretty darn happy! Soleus Air CFM-25E 25Pint Dehumidifier Initially happy with the performance of the product. Plenty of optional settings. Very quiet compared to my 20 plus year old Kenmore model. I have decided to operate it in a lower level room that does not have access to a continuous drain. Removing the tank is cumbersome and its awkward shape makes it difficult to hold and empty without spilling. Operating on med to high, I need to dump ever day. Rethink this model if you have no access to continuous drain. Love it, Very Quiet I really like it. at first it wasnt collecting any water and I called the company. They told me to put in on the lowest setting - quiet and continuous. I tried it and it works. I put it on too high of a setting before. I havent tried the other settings because this one seems to work great. Quiet, Portable, Works Well, Decent Price--PERFECT!!! While everyones acceptance threshold maybe different, this product gets a top-rating at this household. We wanted a unit that: 1. is highly portable--so that we can attack each room one at a time; 2. is quiet--so that we can turn it on and forget about it, even overnight in our bedroom; 3. is affordable--so that we wouldnt regret it so much if it didnt live up to our expectations; 4. works well (of course). Initial impression after about two months is that this unit delivers on all four requirements, and we are very happy with this purchase. Money well spent. Cant comment on longevity because we have only had it for a couple of months. Will update this review after this (2008) summer. Very good dehumidifier Weve had it for about 3 weeks now and so far so good. It is running in the basement at 60% humidity setting and has been pulling water out of the air pretty effectively (at least the air does not smell moist and I see water accumulating in the tank). This basic function is to be expected of any dehumidifier. What sets this model apart is that it is exremely quiet, compact and costs a bit less than other brands. Super little machine! I have had the Soleus for about 3 weeks and I think it is great! I have had other dehumidifiers over the years but none that run as quiet as this one. It is so quiet I could barely hear the condenser turn on. The fan does run all the time but the air is not hot coming out of the vent. The filter is just vacuumed clean every 2 weeks. My finished basement is just over 700sq. ft. and the Soleus is doing an excellent job taking the moisture out. I really like the design of this machine. It is light-weight compared to other dehumidifiers I have had in the past. The handle on top makes it realatively easy to move. I read most of the reviews before purchasing mine and was a little hesitant after reading the bad reviews, but I have not had any trouble so far. To protect myself I did purchase the 2 year extended warranty. I was going to purchase another one for upstairs but the price had gone up $40; guess Ill have to wait for another sale. My dehumidifier I was shocked at how much water was pulled from the air. During very humid days, you will have to empty about every 18-24 hours if you are not set up for a constant drain. Im glad I got this size because I would have a hard time lifting something larger from the floor. wow is this little machine quiet! and, i am hoping it is more energy efficient than my last dehumidifier [runs all summer]. i notice it does a great job removing moisture from the air and i dont hear it humming from the basement. its easy to carry, easy to change the water, easy on the eyes, easy to set up and use...its just...easy:-) humidifier Low and High settings do an excellenct job dehumidifing my 1 bedroom apartment. I live in a humid/swampy area and this was wonderful for my sinuses. Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat If you are looking for just a basic inexpensive dehumidifier, I whole heartedly recommend the Soleus. It is quiet to run (has 3 types of settings) and in 24 hours, can remove a whole bucketful of water extracted from the air. We used it in a room that had moisture problems and it not only dried out the room but also the rest of our 1800 sq ft condominium. Air is much more comfortable to be in and central air conditioner runs less often when this dehumidifier is on Price through Amazon was excellent on sale, so overall a great product at a great price. Big difference We have been using this for a little over a month now and our house has never felt better. We live in a double wide mobile the windows have not been moist at all. Mainly it is run in the living room but once a week we put it in a different room. Fairly quiet, low power consumption. Space heaters blow our breaker but this thing doesnt at all. We love it. Zero pints per 24 hours! I ordered two of these units in order to have more flexibility, and also on the off chance that one of them might be defective. Unfortunately, neither of them worked properly. I read and followed all the instructions, and set them to run continuously on high so I could check out how much water they would collect in 24 hours, to test them. Neither one collected even a drop of water! I "rebooted" them by turning them off and unplugging and plugging them back in and turning them back on. I will say the fans worked fine; too bad the compressors didnt. As for documentation and customer service: When I first received them and read the instruction booklet, in the safety warning area (pg 5?) the text warned not to use the unit near fine art or edible items. Huh? I thought that seemed strange, so I called customer service to find out why. I did get through on the first try, but the young man who answered wasnt familiar with the instructions and warnings and had no idea why, so he put me on hold while he consulted with his supervisor. He then told me the reason I shouldnt use the unit near edible items is because it would remove the moisture from the food which would make it go bad, and they dont want anyone to get sick. WTF? They did remove moisture from me (in the form of perspiration) while I struggled to get them back in their boxes and ready for UPS to pick up, as I had requested a refund from Amazon.com. Although they were on the same order they arrived in their original separate boxes, however Amazon issued only one UPS call tag, and the driver could only pick up one of the boxes. So one of them did remove additional moisture from me (and my gas tank) when I drove it to a UPS pick up location in a nearby town and struggled to get the box out of my car and into the store. I am soooo glad there wasnt a turnstyle to go through! Id probably still be stuck there, laughing like a loon. So, I think these are for people with a dry sense of humor. Back in the day, if Lucille Ball needed a dehumidifier, I bet she would have chosen one of these if they were available. Actually, Ive had a good laugh because of the irony of the situation, and I am very grateful I was able to return both to Amazon.com. After reading what some reviewers went through with Soleus customer service I didnt bother contacting them for a return or replacement. They would have expected me to return it at my expense, from what I understand. From what I read by other reviewers, they work great if you happen to receive one that isnt defective. Based on that, I thought I would give the item a shot, but I made a poor choice. Based on the time and effort I wasted by ordering this item, I can only warn other would-be buyers to avoid this product. Know its limitations. This dehumidifier might work well for some, but it is not for everyone. First, it is an inexpensive brand that often does not last a long time. There are a lot of reviews that state how it doesnt last long, or only lasted a year before breaking down. On the other hand, it costs considerably less than what one that is clearly superior one might cost. There are a lot of people who write reviews that say theirs arrived & didnt work. In some cases, I dont doubt that happened, but because of the limitations of this particular unit, maybe in some cases, it was just not meeting their needs. The unit only works down to 50% humidity. This unit may not collect any water & appear not to work, while other dehumidifiers are collecting water, because humidity is under 50%. Other units usually go down much lower. The lowest setting other than continuous on this model is 50%. Even when the unit is set to continuous, it draws out very little water once it gets below 50% humidity. Mold doesnt grow nearly as well at 50% as at 80%, but often even at 50% there can be some growth. If you have mold allergies, you might need a machine that at least goes down to 45%. This unit is probably not for you. The dehumidifier is rated at 25 pints a day when the room temperature is 86 F & humidity is 80%. As the temperature drops the unit becomes incredibly less efficient. This is common with dehumidifiers. In my basement at 65 degrees F, even when the humidity is high, it might, if Im lucky get out 4 pints a day. As bad as this sounds, this sort of reduction in capability is common with dehumidifiers, but since this one is one of the smaller ones on the market, you are likely to really notice the reduction with one this size. This unit does have auto defrost. It is the reason I bought it. Well, the auto defrost & that is was on a very good sale. I have a dehumidifier 3 times more powerful that is supposedly for low temperature use, but does not have auto defrost. When it is cool, below 75 F, it doesnt freeze up, but spends almost all its time idling waiting to thaw out, since it doesnt auto defrost. This unit actually occasionally heats up the coils to defrost & then quickly goes back to dehumidifying. While its size can be a disadvantage, it is the quietest dehumidifier Ive ever owned & is extremely easy to move. One other thing that I like is that you can put a hose on it to have it drain into a floor drain. It doesnt come with a hose or garden hose attachment. Youll probably need to make a special trip to the hardware store to get the right size hose. If you have a small room that will always be above 75 or 80 degrees F & you dont want to spend a lot, then this might be perfect for you, assuming you get shipped one that works. If you have a larger unit to use during the summer, but need something that can deal with lower temperatures & only a little humidity during the early Spring, this one might work, but might still be too small to do the job. Reading the different reviews of this product, maybe the unit I have will only last a year or so. We will see. When it dies, Ill buy something more powerful, but so far it does work as advertised, although, how quickly the effectiveness of a dehumidifier drops when used in cooler temperatures is usually lost in the fine print. The very best dehumidifier Have endured several other brands that all seemed to either fail after the warranty expired or were loud enough to mimic a super sonic jet taking off. I purchased this Soleus dehumidifier two years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I was concerned about the constantly running fan at first but this is not noticeable on my power bill. I am so impressed I purchased a second unit when on sale recently on Amazon. Thank you Soleus. Super!!! Weve had it for a month and its wonderful. Quiet and extremely effective. Our damp basement is now dry and fresh smelling. Impressed! I ordered this dehumidifier to use in our small Airstream Basecamp when it is parked in our carport during the winter. I like to keep the humidity in the Basecamp at 50% or lower, and this quiet, efficient dehumidifier does the job so well! I am very pleased with this product. Non-support for defective products by Soleus I read all the reviews, crossed my fingers because of the reports of poor support by Soleus and ordered the 25-pint version. It failed to work out of the box. The light came on, but it didnt power up. I called and was able to reach a Soleus representative who pointed out that according to the manual, Soleus would not pay shipping charges under any circumstances. So, Ive returned the unit to Amazon and assume they will not charge me for the return shipping. Now Im reading other product reviews, but I really wanted this one! A Must have soleus Air CFM-25E Dehumidifier with Humidistat We are down south for the winter and it is humid, BUT not with our Soleus Air CFM-25E pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat. This is the best dehumidifier we have ever had, It took all the excess water out of our RV right away, and we emptied the water at least twice before it setled down and now it is down to maybe once or twice every couple of days. I have a hard time breathing in the humid weather but not anymore. What a breeze it is to sit back and enjoy life. Look no further for a dehumidifier! After having owned several dehumidifiers and being satisfied with all of them for one reason or another, I did extensive research for a better one. Definitely found it with Soleus Air. It is extremely quiet, relatively lightweight, simple controls, not a lot of filters to keep clean, can easily be affixed with a hose attachment. Absolutely the best!!! The last one I purchased -- Haier -- lasted less than 6 months before the motor went out. Because I didnt have a receipt, the company wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. That unit was over $200. The only negative with the Soleus Air is that I couldnt find in any local stores and ordered on-line. I would have liked to have seen it before purchasing it but, as I said, I have nothing but rave reviews about it. Up until getting this, I had never even heard of this maker. I feel like I made a good investment- recommed! I took a chance and its a win! I knew nothing about dehumidifiers except that I should have one, having lived in a basement apartment for 2 years Ive lost more than 1 pair of shoes to mold/mildew in the spare room closet. Soleus was a repeatedly named top brand so I looked here. Free shipping was a selling point as were the noted quietness. I am happy with all aspects of this machine, portability, working efficiency, variety of settings, appearance. It arrived in just 5 days with Super saver. I plugged in in and in 8 hours had an inch of water in the reseviour. I knew then I had bought a good size, I had been afraid I bought something way too big. I have a 4 room apartment of average/size, nothing elaborate. I rotate it from bedrooms to living area and I can really feel a big difference in air quality when its been running for just a couple of hours. Of course an inch or so of water every day - more when its rainy- is proof I need this. Make sure you have the air vent on top pointed open, I missed that at first. One negative - the castors arent extremely helpful in rolling this around as you have to tip it at just the right angle and I end up carrying it, they should have put wheels. If my electric bill seems astronomical I will report back. ----- *seems to be quite energy efficient as I haven had any jumps in my electric bill. One note in running it in warmer weather is that it does add some warmth with the outpur air. Still happy with this 6 mos. down the road! I feel like I made a good investment I took a chance and its a win! Great Dehumidifier so far! Ive had this for several months. Got it refurbished. It works well. The water bin is a bit difficult to remove, but I only do it every few days and it is usually not full. Push in on the sides and pull a bit, then grab the handle below and do this a few times until you get it out a bit and then you can pull it out. No brute force needed. I wanted it because of the size, big enough for a bedroom and closet with the doors and windows often open, but dont need to dry out a basement. The power usage of 220W was good, the next larger haier 30 pint uses 440W. I plan to use it all year and have it on all night at least. Since I began using it in an unheated room upstairs at night, I have not needed to turn on the heat there at all, where it used to be quite chilly. I hope it will help with heat in the summer also... Previously I had tried a small dehumidifier using the Peltier technology. It quit after a couple of months. Plus it only held about a pint. This holds 12 pints and I empty it every few days. So obviously that was too small for the space... Nice Dehumidifier This works very well, its not loud and ugly. Just wish it covered a little larger area. Worth purchasing. Dehumidifier-so far, so good I purchased the Soleus CFM-26E on 01/08/2008. So far, I have been pleased with the performance. Compared to the older dehumidifiers Ive used in the past, the Soleus is much quieter, lighter, and takes up much less floor space. As far as dehumidifying, it has been perfectly adequate for my small studio apartment (about 230 ft sq) running at the lowest power setting. The unit housing is plastic, which may not be durable enough for some situations, but has been OK for mine. The unit has a handle and can be carried or rolled on two small wheels (like a piece of luggage), though you dont want to do this with a full tank. Oops! Unfortunately, the wheels are so small that the floor must be perfectly smooth and flat for easy movement. The tank is an odd shape, so you have to be extra careful when emptying it to avoid splashing water on the floor. You can set the unit for constant dehumidify, or three pre-set humidity levels, but these settings only control the compressor--the fan will run constantly as long as the unit is on. Because the dehumidified air is vented from the top through an adjustable-angle vent, the air flow can be obtrusive. Lowering the angle of the vent makes the air flow noisier. In spite of the drawbacks mentioned, on the whole, I am pleased with this purchase--as I said, so far. This is the kind of appliance I would expect years of service from with proper maintenance. Only time will tell how durable it turns out to be. Exactly what we needed! We live in California, where humidity is not an issue, but our 1 room apartment had so much moisture from a leak in the basement below us that the windows were always fogged up and there was mold growing on the walls. After purchasing a hygrometer, we found the humidity level to be at a constant 80%. This dehumidifier did the trick. Weve been running it for about a week now, and the humidity level has dropped considerably. Its extremely quiet (sounds like a fan on low speed) and we leave it on all day and night. Its easy to empty and shuts off when full so theres no leaking. We read mixed reviews on Amazon and were hesitant about purchasing, but we are so happy that it worked out! Love it! After 12 years in a humid San Francisco apt, waking up to a waterfall on my bedroom windows every morning, I purchased the Soleus 25 pint dehumidifier. I pulled it out of the box, plugged in it and it began to do its job immediately! I saw results almost instantly! I can now take a hot shower, run the washer AND the dryer on a day with pouring rain and fog and have not a DROP of condensation on the windows! Its awesome! I run it at night and the quiet hum is just enough to lull one to sleep without disturbing the peace. I highly recommend this product. Excellent Machine for the Money !!! I have never had the need for a dehumidifier before the purchase of this, but I recently moved into an old concrete block home with little or no insulation in the walls, and during the winter months I noticed a great amount of water pooling on the window sills and an above average amount of mold growing in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Since I have been using this Dehumidifier, I no longer have a problem with mold growing in the bedrooms or the baths. As a matter of fact, it pulls so much water out of the air, the shower walls are dry in a matter of hours after taking a shower. I run it on medium speed 24 hours a day and can hardly hear it at all. In a days time I have to dump the container due to it filling up. I would certainly reccomend this machine to anyone who is having high humidity problems. Sincerely, Tom D. Best thing ever! Very satisfied with this product. It is the first dehumidifier we have purchased for our small office. It works wonderful. About once every week we have to dump the water - which is not a problem. It has never overflowed, the automatic shut off works! We would get another if we ever needed it!! Thanks but No Thanks! After reading some of the horror stories about this company I decided not to buy one of these. I dont understand how a company can survive and stay in business based on the consistant poor service it provides. Amazon does a good job helping us find the right products and companies to choose...heck, now Im sounding like a commercial. Died 1 week after warranty ended Worked great for a year. A week after the warranty ran out it stopped collecting water. Compressor kicks on, fan runs but no water. Called the company 4 times and emailed 4 times before someone called me back. They said I could mail it in at my expense and then have their technician look at it for $45 an hour! I declined. Im going to try and get Visa to cover it under their warranty extension program. Do not buy this product. Happy All good things said about the Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat have our total approval! We also have a 50 pint Goldstar which does the job well with the typical noise and 800 watt usage associated therewith. The Soleus, at about 200 watts usage, simply sits there looking pretty and silently, quietly, unobtrusively removes water from the air. What a great little machine! Yes, you could say there is a negative in that the fan doesnt shut off when the selected humidity level is reached. But then too, it wouldnt be difficult to argue that the fan running provides nice air circulation and filtration. Were tempted to buy another one just to have it! Works very well!! Quiet, easy to move with the handle Best de-humidifier Ive had yet out of 4! Quiet, efficient, easy to move with the handle, too. Great Machine! This Dehumidifier is the best small unit I have seen. It works great and is very quiet. Took 9 gallons of water out of my boat in the first couple weeks. I now have a hose directly on it so I cant measure any more. Stylish ,modern, quiet, it gets my thumbs up. It was also the best price I found! Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat, Rocks!!!! J.Moore's Opinion Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat I am heating my garage (800 sq. ft) with a vent-less propane heater. Prior to purchasing my Soleus Dehumidifier, all of the metal in the garage was rusting because of the increased humidity caused by the propane heater. I spent weeks removing the rust buildup on my tools, pipes and the garage door openers drive screws and tension springs. This year, I researched the available dehumidifiers out there and selected the Soleus model. I am extremely satisfied with my selection. There hasnt been any rust build up on anything and my garage heater has been on and is keeping my garage at 50 deg. (my decision) even though the outside air temp. in NE New York has been 20 deg. or less. The hose hookup to my drain makes it convenient by not having to empty the bucket. The unit is made primarily for indoor houses because it is so quiet and good looks, but I find it very useful for my garage. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one for my house or recommend it to my friends & family. Works Great Very quiet and works very good, With a basement full of guitar gear, Drums and recording studio I needed a quiet dehumidifier and this one is very quiet. I hooked up a drain hose because every morning in the summer the water tank would be full, It really pull the moisture out of the air. I also like the fan that stays on all the time to keep air moving, The best way to be sure you get no mold. Does NOT work Bought this item in September 07. Does not work, and the company has not helped at all. Still stuck with the dehumidifier that does not work. Basically lost out on $160.00. Do NOT recommend at all. Very poor reliability I purchased two of the CFM-25Es in the summer of 2006 to dehumidify the basement. After 3 months the first unit failed. It was very difficult to get customer service from Soleus, but eventually they agreed to replace the unit, if I sent back the failed unit at my expense (some warranty)!!! The second unit has now failed and it is out of warranty. I can hear the compressor turning on, but no water accumulates in the pan - same problem as the first unit. This seems so indicate that the refrigerant leaks over time. Until they resolve the reliability problems with this unit, I would strongly recommend NOT purchasing the 25E. Other than reliability, I was satisfied with the quietness of the unit and ease of operation. Perhaps the 40 pint unit is more reliable. 0 Stars for an expensive fan Product never worked. Humidity levels in my basement are >60%. It is supposed to work at 50%, but the unit does not take any water out of the air -- the reservior is bone dry! Based on other reviews, I suspect the humidistat is faulty. Also based on other reviews, I chose not to contact the manfacturer to avoid the delays & headaches. Instead, I returned it to Amazon. Avoid this model. Soleus Air Dehumidifier--Great We needed a new dehumidifier and this one was perfect. It takes up less space, is light weight, and extremely quiet. Sometimes I have to check to see if its really on. Having wheels on it makes it much easier to move around the room. Great product. Couldnt be happier. Great unit. Compact, quiet, and effective! We bought this 25 pint dehumidifier because of a mold problem in our house. We are very happy with it. It effectively dehumidifies a medium-sized room from 70% to 50% RH in a few hours. Overnight it dehumidifies our whole house (~1200 square feet). The unit is lightweight, quiet, and well designed. It is very easy to empty the water collection basin, which needs to be done every few days. I understand it also has a hose hookup so the water can drain directly although we havent tried this. DO NOT BUY THIS Well, I too wanted a quiet dehudifier. Is that too much to ask? This unit is silent, but it does not collect a drop of water. the noiser units that I have tried collect lots of water, but they sound like a helicopter is operating in my basement, and the noise would carry throughout the house. I worked with Soleus , they even RMAd the original, and Im on the 2nd unit, but I can not reccomend this unit. Maybe if i lived in a more humid area, such as the deep south, it would be useful, but the unit did not work in my chicago land basement. Also, a quick note on working with soleus customer service - obviously this company does not have a service department like DELL or some other large company. CS consists of 1-2 people, so it is not all that convenient. Can somebody reccomed a dehudifier that: collects water! has a hose attachment option is pretty quiet (Im not asking for silent!) costs less than $200? Much More Than We Expected--THE BEST! Having returned two other dehumidifiers because they were too noisy, we were somewhat skeptical as to the claims about the Soleus. BUT, they underrated the quietness about this unit. We have it practically in our bedroom, the bathroom is adjacent with the door open, and we do not hear it in the night. And it has brought our humidity level to the normal range in short order. The pan is super easy to empty, and the unit looks very nice right out in the open as it is in this particular bathroom. It far exceeded our expectations--and was less expensive than the others which we returned. We cant say enough about this unit. Great Product! I purchased this dehumidifier several months ago and couldnt be more impressed! We live in the very humid Houston area, and were having major problems with our hardwood floors warping. The boards had popped up from the glue in several places. At one point I had spent $300 just to have one spot fixed, and it immediately popped up again. Since I have been running the dehumidifier, they have all flattened out just like magic. We dump amazing amounts of water out of the thing. I have also noticed that the house is more comfortable at higher temp A/C settings. It was well worth the $150 I spent on it. Great Product Extremely quiet. Efficient. Used it in a motorhome and it kept up with condensation due to cold outside air. Will use it at home. Relatively lightweight and portable. Ver happy camper. Very pleased So far I have owned this dehumidifier for two months. It came in perfect working condition and fired right up. I run it 24 hours a day and I am very impressed with the amount of moisture it pulls from the air as well as its quietness. I use it in a 400sqft garage with a concrete floor and it keeps the moisture out. Bought on 11/14/2005, stop working within 2 years When it works, it is great, quiet and efficient. However, it has been only 2 years, and we only run it maybe twice a week during summer. Short term satisfaction For the first two months I agree it was a 5 star product, but for this price 2 months seems short lived - as for the warranty well....... One year later After two months the machine quit automaticaly shutting off and flooding everywhere. Customer service is non existent, you have to leave your name and number on an answering machine - and no one ever calls you back called several times over months. Repeated Emails also go completely unanswered as does certified mail. I wanted to get mine repaired under warranty - but you cant if you cant reach the manufacturer. I should have heeded some of the previous warrnings, but saw so many positive reviews, probably like my initial thoughs - short term satisfaction. DO NOT BUY - IF THERE IS A PROBLEM - AND THERE WILL BE - YOU ARE OUT THE COST OF THE MACHINE. works great I have two of these dehumidifiers. I purchased one last year, and have been so happy with it, I purchased another this year. They are fairly silent, and do theirs jobs well in terms of dehumidifying. The water collection tray is a little awkward to empty when it is full, because I have my dehumidifiers standing on the ground, so I need to bend down to take the tray out and empty it. If the dehumidifiers were standing on a table, this emptying would not be as awkward. But other than that, this is a great product at a reasonable price. All around good dehumidifier This unit is lightweight (the lightest dehumidifier I have ever had), and seems to pull a decent amount of moisture out of the air. It is also the quietest I have ever had. It has a handle on the top to make it easy to relocate. There are not a lot of controls, no humidity indicator, and the fan never shuts off (unless the bucket is full). Overall a decent unit. I didnt give it 5 stars because of the fan. Problems and AWFUL customer service! Once the power goes off, this stops working. You have to manually turn it back on. Even quick power off that does not reset the clocks and this stops working. I made the mistake of purchasing two of the and the both do the same thing. DO NOT PURCHASE FOR USE IN A BASEMENT or any where else you will not know when it stops working. In other words, this is not the unit for most places you need a dehumidifier. And talk about POOR customer service, wow, these guys are BAD! They will not reply to emails and if you manage to find the phone number and in the unlikely event they answer the phone, they are rude beyond belief. These people are more rude than the DMV on a busy day! This is money down the drain for me! I will probably have to pay to get rid of these units. Great product- Update 11/21/07- Product Failed Update 11/21/07: After 6 weeks of continuous use the compressor failed resulting in no dehumidification. I tried unplugging, resetting to no avail. My amazon return period expired so I contact Soleus and they offered to send me a replacment with one caveat- I had to ship the malfunctioning product back first and pay for the shipping. Well, being that I live on the East coast and it was shipping to CA it cost me 70 bucks to ship UPS. I recommend you keep the original box for awhile in case this happens to you. I will try to fight this charge and get them to back their product completely. Just a little disappointed. Original Review: I researched many products and chose this one bc they said it was quiet. They were right. I needed something for my 12x20 finished basement room to remove the musty wet feeling down there. It is great, you would not know you are in the basement when I have it running. My only regret is I did not get the bigger model since I am emptying the bucket frequently but I intend to tap and feed into the sump pump area anyway. Highly recommend this product. Superb product This thing is really quiet (60 dBA at 6 inches and 50 dBA at 3 feet), easy to move around, and hook up. The only negatives are that is does not stay turned on after power glitches, so you have to keep turning it back on and reset the power level. It draws 230 watts on high, 225 on med and 220 watts on quiet. So you are only changing the fan speed. It has a 12.6 pint capacity bucket, so I recommend hooking it up to a drain with a piece of garden hose and let it run continuously. Nice, but with some "issues" I purchased two of these units. There were two areas I was not happy with: 1. Neither of them removed any moisture from the air when I first connected them. After the first unit was left running in the continuous position for more than 24 hours, it started to pull some moisture out. After 48 hours, it seemed to work fine. The second unit started pulling moisture out of the air after just 24 hours of continuous running. This was during a very humid period (75 to 80% humidity) so this was clearly some issue with the design. 2. If you loose power, these dehumidifiers do not turn back on. To get them to work after a loosing power, you must reselect the mode you want and click all the buttons again. I have one of these in my camp 150 miles away and one under a crawl space in my house. We often loose power with the result the one at my may only run for a day or two before it is rest and I must go under my house every time I loose power to turn that unit back on. If you never loose power or if this unit is in a living area, then this is not a concern. This does make these useless for the applications I am using them for. Good points is they only draw about 200 watts and they are very quiet. Works great This dehumidifier is much lighter than ones I have used in the past so easy to move from one spot to another. It is fairly quiet and seems to work fine. The water catching container is small, but it is easy to attach a hose for continuous drainage. One downside- the fan seems to run all the time whether the compressor is working or not. I hope it lasts longer than the other dehumidifiers I have had in the last few years. Quiet, efficient, effective Pros: -Very quiet -Produces very little heat -Energy efficient -Has option to attach a drain hose -Compact, lightweight -Looks decent Cons: -Water bucket is slightly awkward to empty. -Wheels could be improved for easy moving. -Filter quality should be improved. Filter is very easy cracked and my filter DOA, though it is diminutive. Overall I would highly recommend this unit. Highly recommended My apartment is high above a river and gets very humid. This unit made a terrific difference in air quality. It is also very quiet in operation. Versatile I wanted a dehumidifier that was efficient, quiet, and easy and light to move. The Soleus gave me all I wanted. Like I won the lottery! This Soleus Air CFM-25E portable dehumidifier is awesome! I have a dampness problem in a crawlspace under a room that was an addition to the original house. The only way to get to the crawlspace is through the orginal cellar window of the house. The orginal window can be removed. The dehumidifier fit through the window because of its compact shape and it was light enough to handle. The window can be closed with the cord extending back into the original cellar to be plugged into an extension cord. The dehumidifier is very quiet. It removes 25 pints of water in about a day and a half. I remove the window and can easily reach the water container part of the dehumidifier to empty and put back onto the dehumidifier. I am very happy with this product. It took a long time to find something that fit my needs but the Soleus did the job. I was so happy with this product that I felt like I had won the lottery Does the job... quietly I bought this dehumidifier based on the reviews and I am really pleased with it. Its quiet and energy efficient (although its not mentioned in the description). I should have ordered the 40 pints model but I work from home so emptying it once a day isnt too painful. I am a little surprised to read that some users find it hard to empty... its like a drawer!! Very quiet and lightweight! I live in Florida and humidity is a problem. I purchased this for my condo and it works like a dream. You can place this in a bedroom and it is so quiet you can sleep with it running. I like the fact its portable and the directions are quite simple. The keypad is easy to read. Also, it is very easy to dispose of the water as it doesnt hold as much as the larger version. I would recommmend this to anyone with an small place. Very quiet! This unit came ready to use out of the box - just lift it out, carry it around with the nice little handle on top (nice feature), plug it in and turn it on. Took about 5 minutes tops to get it up and going. Cannot believe how quiet it is - Im not even aware that it is running. And definitely works well - we use it in the basement, which of course can be a bit musty and damp - but with this unit doing the job weve had none of this. I would highly recommend this unit - it does the job very well, and is super easy to use. Great, reliable unit Ive been using the Soleus humidifier since late May for my basement. My basement has never been very damp, but you can notice it more on very hot or humid days. Pros: - Quiet. I wouldnt say necessary "whisper" quiet, but its definitely no louder than a small desk fan and much quieter than other humidifier units Ive heard. - Energy efficient. Ive barely noticed a difference in my electric bill - Stylish design, easy controls - Definitely keeps my basement less humid - Adjustable thermostat. It has 4 settings, continuous, 70%, 60%, and 50% relative humidity - Easily portable. Includes a handle. Cons: - The water collection basket on the bottom is sometimes a little difficult to remove Overall I would highly recommend this unit. Ive had trouble-free use out if for about 3 months and its perfect for my basement. If you have a very large room, you may want the larger size. Quiet, efficient, effective I bought this product for a 10x7 bathroom with a water tank and toilet tank that were sweating and had mold growing on them and nearby surfaces. (Humidity ~90%, temp ~75F.) It is very quiet, and needs to be emtied twice a day if you dont use the drain option (unfortunately I didnt build a drain into this floor). Produces some heat, but less than other models Ive seen. There is still a small amount of condensation on the water tank occasionally, but the humidity level is down to ~75-80% even with the bathroom door open when unoccupied + the shower running 4 or 5 times/day. I probably should have bought the bigger model, but overall Im happy with this product, and with the 3 months/year that we have high humidity here in VT, it should be fine. If I were using it for a larger space, or more humid climate, Id go with the bigger one. Pros: -Very quiet -Produces very little heat -Energy efficient -Has option to attach a drain hose -Compact, lightweight -Looks decent Cons: -Slightly lower capacity than I need, but thats my fault for going cheap! -Knockout for drain hose could have been knocked out at the factory and covered with a plug. -Water bucket is slightly awkward to empty. -About 10% of the reviews say theirs was DOA and service was terrible. Buy through Amazon or other seller who has a good return policy. (This is the only reason I didnt give it 5 stars.) Excellent, Efficient Dehumidifier I purchased this reasonably priced dehumidifier for our basement that is horrendously damp, and although we have to empty the collection tank every day or so during the muggier days of summer, it keeps the basement dry and comfortable. The humidifiers noise is so quiet that we can watch TV in the same room and not notice its running. Compared to other dehumidifiers we have used over the past several months, I would recommend the Soleus for its energy efficiency, quality, quiet operation, and price. so far so good works as described, nice & quiet, should have engineered it so easier to remove water container and also so that it starts up again should it lose power How to get more from your Soeus Air dehumidifier Try buying yourself a DIGITAL HYGOMETOR. (Toss out your old coil one because it cant be relied on for accuracy.) Monitor what the humidity really is. I found the humidity to be much lower than I thought. When the humidity drops to where you have it set, the humidifier stops collecting. You wont see any more water in the water tray until the humidity rises above the setting you have the machine set at. At the "Dry" setting, my humidity runs about 54%. On "Continuous," it drops to 30% plus or minus. I purchased an indoor-outdoor hygrometer to monitor out travel trailer from the house. 35% to 40% is a good setting for when the trailer is in storage. If using it indoors, I would want the humidity to be higher. I wish they made this product with a dial type control to be able to set the humidity just where it is needed! Great Performance, Great Value After a full month of rain (here in Austin, TX), I ordered two (2) of these units in hopes to reduce the amount of humidity in our bedroom and den. Due to the size and portability of these units, I wasnt expecting much, however, what a pleasant surprise. Right out of the box, remove 2 pieces of tape, plug in, and turn on. Super easy. The units have reduced the relative humidity in each room (which are large rooms and high ceilings) from 88% humidity to 55% humidity, and the difference is dramatically noticeable. Our A/C units are now running less and much more efficiently. I would recommend this unit, and I would purchase again. I love my Soleus I know this product has gotten mixed reviews but I have been lucky with mine. I have had it about a month now and just ordered a second one today for another room in my basement. I keep it on continuous and empty the bucket every morning and it is usually 1/2-3/4 full being run every day. If I keep it running the humidity doesnt build up and its always nice and dry. Its super quiet even on high and blows cool air out the vent rather than hot like my really old dehumidfier that is also really loud. Its also attractive for a dehumidifer so blends more into a room. I hope I have as much luck with my second one. It seems like a few got a bad batch but hopefully the problems have been fixed. Great dehumidifier I live in a basement apt of a brownstone and it is always a bit muggy. I have had this for a couple of months now and never turn it off. It runs very quietly. Impressively so in fact. My apt is about 500 sq and this effectively keeps it dry. On muggy days, I turn out the water once per day, but otherwise every couple of days (though Ive only had it for spring/summer NYC). I also find that I use the AC a lot less than I might ordinarily. I am very happy with this unit and would definitely recommend it to others. No complaints I ordered this dehumidifier for the lower-level office in my townhouse where I have a computer and some electronic musical equipment(adjacent to the garage and laundry room). The Soleus works like a champ - I empty the tank every 3 - 4 days, so it is clearly pulling moisture from the air at a good clip. It is also very, very quiet - even when on high, I have no problem sitting at my desk and working without being disturbed. In quiet mode, you can barely tell it is running. My only complaint would be that it does warm the room a few degrees - but, this would happen with any dehumidifier, since by design, they vent the dehumidified air back into the room (which is warmer due to the dehumidification process). I would definitely recommend this model for any cool, damp area where noise-level is a concern. If you dont mind emptying it every 3 - 4 days (or use the continuous drain function) youll be quite happy. Excellent, quiet, effective We have a finished basement in a house built in 1960. Despite several sealing attempts, water still seeps through and is always pervasive in our basement. Because of our damp basement, weve always used one or more dehumidifiers. We have tried more than 5 brands of dehumidifiers. Except for the Soleus, every brand (Whirlpool, LG, etc.) have all been VERY loud (imagine running a window-unit air conditioner in the same room youre in) and create a GREAT DEAL of heat in the room in wish the dehumidifier runs. Since the basement is actually a living area of our home, the other dehumidifiers were unacceptable. In addition, all four of our previous dehumidifiers lasted only about a year before they were shorted out, recalled (one Whirlpool TWICE), or just outright failed. The Soleus is VERY quiet. It gathers at least a bucket of water from the air each day. It creates virtually no heat. It has had no failures or issues for us. I just clean the snap-out filter from the back each week or so, keep the bucket clean, and I get no issues at all from this appliance. At first, I thought it was TOO quiet and was broken. But, within the first day, it filled up the bucked with water. Awesome. Good product This product is just right for what I need it for. Works great and is just the right size. Will not last I purchased this unit because it was compact and very quiet. After a little more than a year, this unit no longer removes water. Now only the fan blows. I have a 20 year old Frigidaire that is still humming in my crawlspace removing moisture. Will not last I purchased this unit because it was compact and very quiet. After a little more than a year, this unit no longer removes water. Now only the fan blows. I have a 20 year old Frigidaire that is still humming in my crawlspace removing moisture. A quality product Ive had this dehumidifier for about a year now and it works quietly and flawlessly. No complaints. Super Quiet! I love this product so far. The biggest selling point for me is that it very quiet even on its highest setting. The only thing that I would improve upon if I were this company is the water collecting tank is a bit clunky to handle when its full, so you have to be careful not to drop it. But other than that....Im very pleased. what you see is what you get Dehumidifier works well. Does turn off before overflow. Is very quiet even on high. Excellent for small spaces or basements The only significant downside with this dehumidifier is that it has a relatively small water capacity. The device itself it compact, quiet, and lightweight. The settings on the control panel are simple and intuitive, as is the overall design. It is more than adequate for a northern midwest atmosphere. I run it on low in my basement, and empty the tank every couple of days (usually its full within 24 hours, but I just dont feel like going down there and emptying it every single day). Sometimes, if it gets particularly muggy, Ill run it on high in the bedroom or living room, and it does an amazingly good job of pulling moisture out of the air (obviously its not instantaneous, or even as fast as a much bigger or louder unit). I think, on the balance, this unit is an extremely efficient balance between dehumidifying and noise/electric usage. Ive had this unit for about two years, and I havent any problems with it during that time period. Soleus CFM-25E Dehumidifier I bought the Soleus because of its outstanding low noise rating. It is indeed very low noise. Unfortunately it has control problems. The computerized controls in the 2 Ive owned do the following: Once humidity setpoint is reached, the compresser turns off, never to restart. The fan alone runs. Because of the fan, you will think it is working until you either realize it is collecting no water, or notice the very faint compressor hum is missing. To restart the compressor it is necessary to do a hard reboot, which means unplug, wait 1 minute, plug back in and work the buttons on top to get it to dehumidify again. You can see another review on Amazon for a 40 pint unit where no water extraction is the complaint. I suspect this is why. A 30 pint Maytag M3DH30B2A I also own is louder, but always works. One big Maytag advantage in my opinion: It has manual control - no computer to go wrong. Finally - both the Soleus and Maytag blow out an odor I dont like - I think it comes from the plastics used for their construction. The Maytag is now 1 year old; the odors have diminished. Same story: Works great for a few months then dies. I purchased mine in October 2006. It died at the end of February 2007. I was hoping that I would not be one of the apparently unlucky few whose units crapped out on them. But here I am. Ive got an email and phone call in to Soleus, but based on others experiences, I am not very hopeful that this will be resolved. Worked twice, then stopped I am very dissapointed with this product. It filled the resevoir twice then stopped, although we still have moisture issues. I would not recommend this product. Does a Great Job We have had the unit about five months and it has solved our problem. Emptying the water every couple of days was a pain, but confirmed how much water this little unit was acutally pulling out of the air. We recently installed a drain hose as per the instructions, and it works great. The unit is very quiet. I didnt appreciate it until I recently spent a sleepless night in a motel room with a competitors product. The noise level difference was truly amazing and prompted me to write this review. Im so glad that I didnt buy the other product. The Best Read the reviews for products. People will tell you if something is good or not. This thing is quiet and performs great. It also looks good. Perfect for apartment This thing changed my life... I live in a very wet climate and in an old building with old windows, so it can get very wet inside the apartment. Now that I have this dehumidifier I no longer have to clean mold off the walls and windows. As others have noted this machine is very quiet, has a small footprint, and really sucks the water out of the air. Despite the fact that it claims to have humidstat, mine has never turned itself off, and I think it would keep chugging along in the desert, so I dont think that feature works very well on mine. But despite that, I still love this thing. Finally, I am grateful that this humidifier works well at low temperature, because I have a wet apartment in the winter and a dry apartment in the summer, so this one will actually work in that situation. Does the job and quietly, too. For its price, low power consumption and quiet operation, the CFM-25E Dehumidifier is hard to beat. We used to own an old dehumidifier (forgot the brand) but we left it when we moved to this house. It was good at getting water from the air but was annoyingly noisy. Last year my wife noticed mildew forming on some clothes hanging in the basement. So I got this CFM-25E this winter and it started removing water from the air after 2 hours of running until it had a gallon over 2 days. I also got a combination thermometer and hygrometer to monitor temperature and humidity. Before dehumidification, basement temperature was at 70 deg F and humidity was 61%. The basement smelled and felt damp. After running the dehumidifier for 2 days, a gallon of water was removed from the air. The humidity was down to 55% with the temperature still at 70 deg F. Gone were the smell and feel of dampness. I noticed that if the outside temperature dips down to the 40s, hardly any water was removed at all. To conserve power, I turn it off once the hygrometer goes down to 55% or when I see no more water being removed from the air. I wish it had a timer feature or it allowed itself to be controlled by an external timer. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. Our basement smells fresh and I can see this dehumidifier being used heavily in the spring when the outside temperature goes up and the air turns very humid. Soleus saved the day I was hesitant to buy this product after it got a slew of bad reviews. There must have been a bad batch from the factory. Before the bad batch, the reviews were excellent, so I decided to try it-Im glad I did! My situation was sweating walls and moldy closets-not anymore. The soleus 25 pint started working immediately out of the box. I have had it for 3 months w/no problems from the machine. It is very quiet-especially the quiet mode-very happy about that! The other speeds sound just like a regular fan is running. The filter is just a grate w/tiny holes that catch all the dust in the air. It needs to be rinsed off once in awhile. It seems a little bit fragile, so I wouldnt scrub it or anything, just rinse. The water bucket is very easy to dump out-I dont use the hose for continuous draining. It has never leaked water. Its small and easy to move around. The area it is dehumidifing is about 450 square feet. I would say it is a humid environment. I leave the Soleus on continuous dehumidification and it has not gotten too dry-so if you have an area larger than 450 square feet I would get larger than 25 pint. Since I keep it on continuous I cant comment on how the dry-moist settings work. In one month, running non stop, the soleus cost about $25 to run. Im very happy with this purchase, it solved my humidity problems, its easy, and its quiet-just what I wanted. Dehumidifier is nice, quiet but does NOT work! After a lot of research and reading many reviews on dehumidifiers, I decided to gamble and purchase the Soleus Dehumidifier. The reviews told me that those who have units that work were extremely happy with them. I also knew that some arrived DOA - sounding like they were working, but not extracting water from the air. I even contacted Soleus customer service to get a feel for their responsiveness - I was able to reach someone via email and even had a phone number. So I went ahead and puchased the unit from Amazon - which turned out to be a very big advantage for the return. The unit arrived. It was nice, sleek and easy to set up. This unit was placed in a finished basement that gets very damp on rainy days. We already have a very noisy older unit that pulls out a gallon or more a day on rainy days. So, we had a baseline for how much the Soleus should extract in the same space. I was hoping for a quiet unit to perform the same work. Well, not the case. Here is my experience. The unit was VERY QUIET which was very nice. However, the unit did not work properly! We waited and waited for water to come. We decided we had not set it properly so tried again and again. After constant running we were only able to get a few drops of water in the resevoir bucket. Obviously the unit was not working and we were one of the unlucky ones. We started our older unit and it pulled out a bucket of water - so we knew we had a unit that was not working properly. I was disappointed but happy I could return this to Amazon. We will get another noisy unit from somewhere rather than hassle with getting one of these that works. The return process at Amazon was flawless and very smooth though so I am happy with that part of the transaction! I would NOT recommend this unit - dont be hopeful, just go ahead and save yourself the time and get another brand that works. So Quiet! This dehumidifier is quieter than any fan, air purifier, or dehumidifier that I have owned! The decibel level difference between when it is just circulating and dehumidifying is hardly noticable. I highly recommend it. Other said it was difficult to empty, but I have had no problems at all. Yes! What an incredible difference it has made! No more musty smell or mildewed shoes and books! As for longevity, Ive only had it for four month (and counting), but so far so good. Very quiet but not as effective as it could be. This unit is fine for a very small area. It is extremely quiet, as other reviewers have noted. I got this for my small basement. (800 sq ft). According to all of the references that I had looked at, a 20 pint capacity dehumidifier should have been perfect for that size area. Well, after bringing it in, turning it on, and leaving it, the most it could do was bring the humidity down to 60%, and that was with it running continuously. I gave up and brought it upstairs to use in the tiny bathroom instead. I then purchased a Danby DDR606 60 pint Energy Star one, which immediately dropped the humidity to 50% and very easily kept it there without running continuously (and it is nice and quiet also.) The moral of the story...dont expect this to do more than dehumidify a very small area. It would be great for a bedroom or bathroom, since it is quiet enough to put in a living space. However, look elsewhere if you want a more effective product for a basement or slightly larger space. Oh..one other thing...the first one of these I got from Amazon did not dehumidify at all out of the box. I exchanged it for the one I have, which most certainly DOES work...just not adequately for my space. Soleus is my HumidiStar! Quiet, keeps the danky smell out of my basement, efficient, runs 24/7 and there wasnt much dent in my electric bill! I highly recommend this jewel! Very quiet but not as effective as it could be. It does a nice, quiet job of pulling the moisture from the air and putting it back into the pond. Finally a Dehumidifier that really works! We had a serious problem with humidity at our ice cream shop here in the Pacific Northwest (where it rains a lot). We looked for a dehumidifier in stores and catalogs but we found mainly huge, loud floor models. We needed one that was a quiet "work-horse" and could be placed on our back counter, which is visable to customers. We based our decision to purchase the Soleus Air CFM-25E mainly on the customer reviews and we werent in the least disappointed. It is everything we hoped for in a dehumidifier. It has sleek, inconspicuous looks and even on the high setting is so quiet you dont think it is running. Best of all, it takes all that nasty moisture out of the air - No more soggy cones! It is easy to see the water level and provides no mess when dumping. We highly recommend this product. GREAT PRODUCT The Soleum Air Dehumidifier is out of sight -- a great product. What I like most is that it is very, very quiet! The house sitter even commented on not realizing she had to empty the dehumidifier because it is sooooooo quiet. I love it! Have recommeded it to several friends -- and would buy it all over again in a heartbeat! Worst Customer Service Ever I dont know how the SoleusAir 25 pint dehumidifier got such a high rating because 1) It never removed more than 10 pints in 1 day even though the humidity level in my closed bedroom started out at 80%. In fact, once the humidity level reached 50% it never removed more than 3 pints in a day or took the humidity level below 48% even running on Continuos High 24/7. 2) The 1st week it was very quiet but by the 3rd week it was so noisy that I had to turn it off at night or it would wake me up. 3) Soleus does not believe in any form of customer service. They are by far the worse company I have ever dealt with I called and left a message, after the 1st week and got no response. I emailed them and got an automated response then nothing. After another week I called and left another message and got no response. I again emailed them and got no response. End of another week I then called and kept hitting re-dial until I got the operator who told me to leave a message. I told her I wanted to talk to a real person so she transferred me to the wrong person who put me on hold for 5 minutes before transferring me to the right person, a Tommy Vong. He rudely told me that as long as the unit was taking any water out of the air that the unit was not defective. Then he said that if I wanted anything else from him to FAX him a copy of the original receipt so he could be sure the unit was still under warranty. Also, if I wanted any warranty work done I would have to pay for the shipping to them. Lastly he said that until I provided the receipt there was nothing else he would do for me. Needless to say, I returned the unit to the Amazon.com. They sent me a return label then promptly gave me a full refund. I then bought a Haier HDN305 30-pint a day Dehumidifier, which was less expensive that the SoleusAir and even though it is nosier works much better. I use the Haier in my bedroom in the day & living room at night and it takes the humidity in these rooms from 80% to 35% in less than 4 hours. Also, I called Haier and got Customer Service phone number and within a minute I was talking to a customer service rep who was both pleasant and helpful. Bad product, Bad service from Soleus, Excellent support from Amazon.com I bought this product by reading the reviews. The unit ran continuously but never collected a drop of water. In the first page of the manual, there was a big STOP sign reminding me to call the toll free number if the unit does not work and not to return the product to the store. I called the number repeatedly for a week and left several messages. Finally, after a week a rep called me back and arranged to send a return label. He promissed me to send a replacement unit only after he receives the original unit. After one month, a received a replacement unit. This unit worked for a week. It then ran continuously without collecting a drop of water. I called Amazon.com. They agreed to refund my money. In the mean time, I was out of a dehumidifier for two and a half months. I would never buy a product from Soleus. No More Mildew Smell! I live in a cottage in a very shady backyard. Prior to purchasing this unit, my place always felt cold and damp. The carpet had a mildewy smell and my towels never dried. Ive had this unit for about 8 months now. My allergies have improved and the mildew smell is gone. The only complaint I have is that (because my place is so small) that if I leave it on 24/7, my skin gets super-dry. I usually turn it off when I go to sleep. It is by far, one of the best purchases I have ever made and I am planning on buying one for a Christmas gift for my parents who live in foggy San Francisco. What moisture? I moved into a basement apartment in the mountains of Western North Carolina in August of this year. Within a few days I noticed my clothes, linens, and mattress were rather damp. I tried a few different things; fans, Damp-Rid, turning on the heat, etc. After I noticed mildew and mold growing on the mattress, I decided it was time to get a dehumidifier. Looking around the net and local stores, even "cheap" dehumidifiers were over $100. I saw the Soleus and thought: Thats too much money, Im a broke college student. But the more I looked around, and read reviews, the more I realized it was better to buy a good product for a bit more, than risk wasting $100 on an inferior product. Within 2 days, my apartment felt drier. By the end of the week my place was a desert. Even on the highest setting the Soleus is relatively quite, quieter than any of the fans I had running, and the hum is the sort of white-noise that puts me to sleep anyway. Now that my apartment is thoroughly dried out, I only empty the reservoir about once a week. The Soleus was definitely worth the money, Im very happy with my purchase. SOLEUS 25-Pint Very quiet. Lightweight. Water tank a little difficult to remove and empty. (Would have purchased the larger one but it was out of stock.) Quiet? You betcha. I havent been able to use this over the course of an entire summer yet, but on warm days it has done the job of dehumidifying just fine. The primary reason for the purchase was to have a much quieter dehumidifier here in my basement office, and it really delivers. There is just the slightest level of white noise from the unit in the "Quiet" mode-- this is a good thing. (While claims are made regarding energy savings with this model, I have no way of measuring this and frankly it is such a small percentage of energy use in the house that the effect would be negligible.) great unit for the money quiet, easy to use settings, works as advertised.water trough a little difficult to remove when full.i spilled a couple of times before i got used to it.much better than more expensive units i could have purchased locally. Again This is the second unit I have purchased. I did this because I am so pleased with the first one I bought this past September 2006. With the persistent rains, the humidity in my basement was well above 80%. Storage of belongings became an issue with mildew. The Soleus 25E lowered the humidity to 60% range, empting the tank once every 24 hours. There are units that will draw more water faster but they draw much more electricty as well. I have hardly noticed an increase in my electric bill. If you do not have real serious water problems but need to lower humidity then this unit does the job without running up the energy cost. I figure I can run two of these units and still not use as much energy as a 650 watt unit. A+ This was the single best purchase I have made for my new home! What a difference it has made in my basement. Its not big, but took care of the moisture problem in my whole basement, which is pretty sizeable- and I cant even hear it working. Thanks for all the great reviews that led me to this product! Very good. My only request would be that it have a less awkward water tray. And, maybe, a humidity level readout and continuous humidity level target setting. So quiet, I can't tell if it's running Were delighted with this product so far. Its small (relatively speaking), moveable, and whisper quiet. Sometimes I have to walk over and put my ear to the unit to be sure its running (the "power" light stays on, even if its not running, so its impossible to tell from a distance whether Ive got the thing running or not). I do wish wed bought the bigger capacity unit, though. We use the dehumidifier in our basement and it fills up every day or so. That being said, Ive read all the other reviews here and Im keeping the box, just in case it decides to quit on me. Ouch, my finger! The water level floater was a misaligned and got caught on the sensor toggle. Trying to reinsert the tray, I ripped a good bit of flesh off the top of my finger. Now the sensor always says full. Needless to say, Ive returned the product for a replacement. Id also like to mention, the dust filter on the back was cracked on receipt, the plastic doesnt seem very durable (brittle). Other than the above, this baby sucked gobs of moisture out of the air, the tank needed emptying once a day. Kinda heavy to be moving from room to room, though. Ouch, my finger! Talk about quiet I bought this after seeing the other good reviews on this unit. I have another brand, and it sounds like a jet airplane. So I bought this, and its very quiet compared to the other one. I wish the bucket had a handel to cary the water out, but other then that I love it. It runs 24/7 and no problems, it does give off warmer air that will be nicer in winter. I will probably get a CFM-40 for our sealed crawl space. ITs right under our bedroom so I need something quiet instead of an airplane. VERY QUIET INDEED!!! Fine Product which works effectively to remove humdity even from the steamy environs of New York City. Uses far less electricity than the competition , and is quiet enough to be used in a bedroom or den. Water reservoir could use a built-in carry handle and unit should have 4 casters for easier mobility but overall, a winning design . Does a great job........quietly We have a damp basement and finally decided to get a dehumidifier. The first one we bought worked so well we got 2 more since our basement is large but separated into 4 rooms. They work great and quietly. We had bought a Whirlpool and returned it because the noise was driving me crazy and actually the wattage was higher and more costly to run. Cant go wrong with this machine. Very good value I had read the reviews of this dehumidifier and some were mixed, but most were good. I am glad I got it. It works very well and is extremely quiet and the price was very good. The item was shipped and delivered very quickly. Im very happy. Excellent product I just purchased this dehumidifier after reading all of the positive reviews. This thing works great and it has really helped the humidity problem in my apartment. It is very easy to use, the tank is easy to empty and it is extremely quiet. My portable air conditioner and fan are louder than this!!! I would recommend this to anyone who has a basement apartment or just needs a small dehumidifier. I leave it plugged in all day and I empty it once a day. I highly recommend this product!!! Excellent product I just purchased this dehumidifier after reading all of the positive reviews. I highly recommend this product!!! works great... best purchase this summer with 95% humidity I purchased 2 units... 1 for the bedroom (20x15) and another for the family room/dining room (600 sq ft). The weather in our area has been in the 95% himidity range and with my A/C blowing full steam all day the unit has been able to remove the humidity in the air. The only thing I may change is to get the larger unit since the 25pint will last about 24 hrs till the reservoir gets full. But with a larger unit, Im not sure how easy it is to empty out that many pints of water! So... it would depend on your availability. The unit has an auto stop when the reservoir is full and accidental overflows are NONE! Excellent for dust mite allergy/asthma sufferers! I live in Southern California near the coast where the humidity is high. Dust mites breed rapidly with > 50% humidity. This model is quiet, efficient, looks nice, and is a very reasonable price. I bought it for the bedroom and it has worked out so well at keeping the humidity within the limits I need that I just ordered a second one. A few notes: + This model cant go inside a closet. + If knowing humidity matters, buy a humidity guage separately (this unit doesnt include one). Excellent Dehumidifier I would highly recommend this Soleus Air CFM-25E Dehumidifier with Humidistat. It is very efficient and very quiet. We have had it about 2 months and we love it. Would gladly purchase another if a need ever arises! Solid unit I bought this for our basement and have used it for about a month now. The controls are very intuitive and easy to operate. I set it to keep my basement at 50% humidity and it usually fills up in about a day. Emptying the unit is pretty easy too. I dry clothes on a clothes rack in my basement and having this unit means the clothes dry in about a day, or two days max. The unit is very quiet, you hardly even hear it. One warning if you use this in your basement, try and set it on a flat surface or use a small piece of wood or folded cardboard to keep it flat. Our basement slopes very gently so that water flows into our sump pump. I noticed that water was leaking out of the unit because apparently the slope of our basement was causing the float/auto shut off mechanism not to trigger. I put a small, nearly flat piece of wood under the unit to level it and the problem went away. Works well The dehumidifier is perfect for areas like living rooms and bedrooms, since it is quiet and pulls enough water out of the air to make it useful. However, I do not recommend it for basement use as it is just too small and slow for that purpose. Better to get a larger, more powerful unit for the basement. Follow-up: We tried the dehumidifier in our bedroom yesterday evening for the first time. It worked well but the warm air coming out of the dehumidifier heated the room so much we had to shut it down. Im sure it will be great in the winter! Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier I wish I ncould leave feed back on this item. Item was shipped but did not work. When I returned it and requested a replacement I was issued a refund instead. Found a simular modle at HD for less money that works perfectly. dehumidifier This dehumidifier works fairly well. It is noticably less damp in the apartment, and I havent had the need for allergy medicine (like I normally do this time of year). However, my electricity bill nearly doubled--be prepared. Works like a charm! I was pleased with the easy set up (just plug it in), quiet mode really is quiet, and it lowered the humidity in my space from 75% to 55% within a couple of hours. It is easy to empty the water tank, looks good, and is portable. THe directions warn that the casters could scratch floors when it is wheeled around, but it has not scratched my hardwood floors. I really like this product. Great Dehumidifier I received this dehumidifier on time and in great condition. It works better than expected and is very quiet even when using the continuous operation mode. The only knock on it I would have is that the continuous drain setup is poorly designed but other than that its a great product for the money. It never worked I am tired of these kind of companies that try to put defective product withtout QC. This humidifier did not collect any water from days of running. The 1 star is just for good look. Excellent product!! Great dehumidifier at a great price. Worked straight out of the box. We live on the wet side of Oahu and have been getting more rain than usual. Humidity was so high, we had mold growing on the bottom of shoes on the floor and the entire 12x12 room felt damp. No more. This baby pulls about 1.5 gallons of water a day from the air. We already have a window a/c unit that puts out a good bit of noise and I didnt want a loud dehumidifier. This model is sooooo quiet, you cant even tell its on. Simply amazing. Lots of pluses and very few negatives: Very lightweight and small footprint on floor. Doesnt require a lot of space around it as some other do. Easy to use (just plug it in!) It only has four settings for dehumidifying and doesnt tell you the humidity level of the room, but that wasnt important to me...I want to keep the room dry and keep it on continuous dehumidify all day long. Also, it vents warm air into the room, raising temp 1-2 degrees F but with the drier air we barely notice. I would buy this product again I purchased this dehumidifier because I live on the coast and we get approximately 100 inches of rain a year. Mold and moisture accumulation are big concerns. This product is very effective at pulling the excess moisture from the air and drying the air. Very pleased with dehumidifier I was especially pleased with the shipment time. I received the dehumifier 3 days after ordering. The dehumifier successfully removed the high moisture level problem I was having. I was also very pleased with its electric consumption. I had expected a much increased electric bill since I used it constantly for 3 days, but that was not the case. Very satisfying experience I dont have a lot of experience with different dehumidifiers like other reviewers apparently do, so I cant compare it to other dehumidifiers. All I can say is that it works, the price is right, its easy to use, and emptying that bucket is somehow very satisfying. If youve never had a dehumidifier and live in a house that feels damp, I can tell you that, besides helping with mold and mildew problems and keeping all your salt from sticking together, you can actually feel the difference. Its great. Soleus Air CFM-25 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat |
