![]() PUR FM-9400B 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome By: PUR Average Rating: 2.5 Total Reviews: 215 More Information Short life filter cartridges, leaking faucet mount We have had this faucet-mount filter for about 10 months. It does seem to purify the water and make it taste better, but the filter cartridges are expensive and only lasted a maximum of two weeks for us (only used for drinking water, ice cubes, cooking water; filter cartridge used until water output was a mere trickle). About 4 months ago, the filter started leaking water out other areas, with non-filtered water "contaminating" the filtered water as they run together. In the past month, the filter has started spewing water out all sides--even after repeated attempts to reinstall and to use repair tape, etc. The spewing water is coming from the filter contraption itself--not from any connection to the faucet. There is no way to repair it. I hate to throw it away as we have unused filter cartridges remaining, but it is ridiculous to have water spraying all over the kitchen every time we turn on the faucet! Good, but it falls apart. Very poorly built I love this thing, but I will not be buying a second one. Unlike many reviewers, mine outlasted the one year warranty by several months! Yours may fall apart in the first few uses as it is designed to fail. Do yourself a favor and by a high end reverse osmosis filter. The water is even cleaner and they are built to last. love this filter had this unit at a previous house. the previous one leaked but the filtered water quality was excellent. installed this one and have not had a leak. once again the water quality is great. very pleased i read a few reviews saying that these fail easily, but weve had it for about 3 months and no problerms at all. most importantly, the switch-to-filtering toggle on this filter is effortless. we had a brita faucet filter before and the toggle was so stiff that we resorted to using pliers to switch between modes. another feature i like is the indicator for replacing filters; its much more clear when it will nee to be done (we use this all the time and have not hadf to replace the filter yet). also looks nice, easy to install. buy ... not The filter leaks yielding a mixture of filtered and unfiltered water. This sorta defies the purpose. The quality of design reminds me of the filters that we used to have in the Soviet Union. Great filter The water comes out fresh and clean. I live in NY and normally tap water comes out cloudy. The water always comes out crystal clear now. It was easy and quick to install. Id recommend it! ALL of Pur fauct mount water filter systems YEAP we too have been going through these things like wild fire. We can run about 4 filters (we have REAL hard water with lots of lime) and that is it then the leak. Someone should turn them in since this isnt very eco friendly since you are losing alot of water while trying to just get a small amount of filtered water. I would say once they start leaking more unfiltered water leaks out then what filter water you get to use. And another thing I noticed they are saying they filter 99% but we still get tons of lime deposits on things like the drinking glasses with the purified water. Also it still limes up my coffee maker it doesnt do it as fast but there is still lime getting through which makes me wonder what else gets through since micro organisms are smaller then the lime. I dont use these to get better tasting water I use them for health reasons I dont want all those extra chemicals in my water. PUR-FM9100: Mediocre product, needs improvement. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2N4DDYUQ248LL Pros: Chrome design Quick installation. Attaches easily to many kitchen faucets (unscrew the existing adapter and screw the Faucet Mount). Horizontal design saves space. Water taste very good. Easy to use filtered to unfiltered water switch. Filter removes microbes, mercury, lead and asbestos as well as sediments. Cons: Kind of awkward to unscrew and screw the front cap when changing a new filter cartridge. Built quality isnt good as you can see in the video. A better rubber grommet will prevent water leaking from the front cap. It may leak from the faucet mount. Poor workmaship, plastic parts, doesn't last I have to agree with the other reviewers in that the product just doesnt last. I have owned THREE PUR Faucet mount water filtration systems all of which had leaks at the plastic seams. Before you ask why I would keep buying the product, let me explain that after the first leakage problem, I contacted the company who sent me a free product replacement. After that one failed within the year, I was sent a coupon for a free product replacement. The actual filtering of water works for this product. However, the quality is lacking...severely. Im in the process of again contacting the maufacturer to see if I can get a replacement. I do not think I will bother again with this company..regardless of any free replacements. I am searching for a new filtration system. Let me also state that we an average family and we dont handle this item roughly in any way. It would be a great purchase if they made the parts from quality materials that lasted. They would have this customer for life! Better Thann a Pitcher! I was kind of sad to see that it is made of plastic. I have had it for 2.5 months now and just had to replace the filter. It is much easier that any type of water pitcher which are only one stage filters after all. It is easy to use and tells you when it needs replacing. Much easier than refilling pitchers with water. Its three stage filter does the job. We have no chlorine smell in the water. I understand that it reduces medical waste in drinking water. With bottled water you dont know for sure how clean it is. So let the government filter plants do their job and we will do ours. We can now be sure that our drinking water is clean. A garbage product Dont buy this filter. Worked correctly for about two weeks until an internal problem caused the filters water pressure to diminish. The purified now comes out at an absolute trickle, leaking from over the filter part. Useless. Great water quality, but the hardware will only last 6-12 months I agree with most of the other reviews that complain about the poor quality of the hardware. I thought about switching brands but the filters are superior to any other faucet mount filters that I could find b/c of the contaminants that they are certified to remove. This will be my third time around and the other mounts broke after 6-12 months of use. Bad Design - DO NOT BUY This worked for about four months before it started leaking. I was hoping the leak could be fixed just by swapping out a washer but unfortunately that is not the case. The leak is at the poorly designed swivel joint and there is no way to fix it. Do not buy this shoddy product. Filters Average Only a Couple Weeks I bought this as a replacement for an aging Brita filter of similar design. After two months, I am considering switching back. The biggest problem weve had so far is that the filters (PUR RF-9999-3 3 Stage Faucet Mount Filter, 3-Pack) only last a couple of weeks before water flow begins to slow to a trickle. On previous models Ive owned, the filters would never reach their specified 3-month lifespan, but they would at least get close. These filters are rated up to about 100 gallons. Though we drink a lot of water, we certainly have not consumed 400 gallons in the past two months! Not only do the filters have a short life, but the frequent replacing of them has taken a toll on the assembly itself. After only one month, pieces (cosmetic not functional) started falling off of body. The filter looks good, and is easy to install and use, but the frequent replacing of the filters becomes very expensive, very quickly. Leaks, faulty product!! Ive purchased three PUR faucet mount filters in the last two and a half years and they were OK at first but within a few months the filter assembly started leaking. I will not buy again. PUR 3 water filter It was fairly easy to install. The size is perfect for my faucet. It has started to leak a little bit - small drips from the faucet side while using the purifier side. So far this, is not a problem. beautiful design I know it works well. Its design is fabulous and it is so easy to install. I can understand why the replacement cartidges are so expensive but I wish they were cheaper. Great tasting water has no taste which is what I was after LOL. Plus it is cool looking and comes with great science. This unit does not leak, never has. I see a lot of people cant install a water filter or they have a cheap faucet and it does not mount properly. I have two of these installed for over 3 years one it the kitchen one in the bathroom and they do not leak. The dirty filter light is a joke it will stop flowing when it is really dirty, then you change it. PUR, once a quality brand, is now lowsy Having used PUR filters in the military for years with great performance and their first consumer faucet-mounted filters for many years with good performance and durability, my original PUR vertical model - w/moving dial - finally wore out, so I replaced it with this. Within two filter changes, the idiot-light indicator quit working (with the difference between orange and red being barely discriminable anyway), so now Im reduced to either changing filters by calendar-date or buying another faucet mounting. However, after looking at reviews of several other of their models, I see repeated complaints of poor materials and poor durability. It is a shame that a company with a great brand name and long reputation for quality has decided to trade that back for quick bucks. Its another good example of "hidden" or "quality" inflation that goes uncounted in the governments measures of inflation - i. e., paying the same or more dollars for poorer and poorer quality merchandise that requires replacement more often. They still claim high efficiency filtration for their products, but Im skeptical enough, given these other readily visible declines in quality, to wonder whether their filters are really delivering what they claim regarding purification. So Far So Good Ive had this 11 months. Its not perfect but, for me, its been the best model Ive tried to-date. And to clarify, I do have the FM-9100 (brushed stainless steel) model. Some of the reviews here make me think the reviewers are talking about different specific models. Not all the PUR models are created equal. The key to my happiness is simple: 1. It hasnt developed any cracks in the body that spray water everywhere. (Unlike another PUR model out there.) 2. It has metal threads and I dont have killer water pressure, so it stays on the faucet. (Unlike a Brita model out there.) 3. The water tastes fine. 4. Its easy to use and out of the way. Understand, its got some limitations: 1. Make sure youre using the right faucet adapter. Even then, if you have very strong water pressure, its probably not going to stay attached for the long haul. 2. I think its hard to change the filter. It takes a lot of hand strength from me to twist the cover off and back on. If you have hard water, it will eventually get worse. Im guessing I will one day break the unit while attempting to get the cover ALL THE WAY ON. 3. The filter life indicator is a rough guide. It *seems* to go by how many times the faucet is turned on, not the number of gallons filtered. So buy replacements when the light blinks yellow, then replace the filter when it starts tasting bad. If any of those are deal-breakers for you, I suggest a filter pitcher or a larger under-sink model. Filter Fraud? I bought a Model FM-9400. After three months or so the light turned red. No problem: time to install a new filter. But just for grins, I reinstalled the old filter and the light miraculously (or not so miraculously) turned green. Seems the light has little to do with the health of the filter and more to do with PUR trying to make its quarterly sales number for replacement filters. Very disappointing. LEAKS!!!!!! If you buy this, save the packaging to return it because it will leak...it is only a matter of time. If you are extremely gentle with how you handle the unit, it will last a bit longer before leaking (that is, dont push on the unit to reposition faucet). The price is too high for the lack of quality. Get an under-sink unit and save yourself the hassle. I find that the unit gets in the way of filling large pots and pitchers in the sink and the bumping around contributes to the unit leaking. The filtered water is good and dispenses faster than I thought it would with our low water pressure. Horrible product and customer support We just purchased this faucet filter just a couple of days ago. The water came out in a steady stream the first day, but now it does not pour directly down put along the filter... Tried to access they support on the PUR site... but its absolutely awful and disrespectful towards its customers. I would not recommend this.. Leaky system - don not recommend This system is simply bad. By the end of the first filter I had installed, the system was leaking significantly. By the ens of the 2nd filter I had installed, it was leaking profusely. The PUR web site stinks for customer support. I am looking for a replacement product right now. Please do not waste your money on this product. Water Seems Pure, but the Hardware is Poor Ive been using these PUR water filter units for several years. I like the convenience and the quality of the water, but Im getting very tired of the problems with the hardware itself. This turns out to be quite an expensive unit because the faucet mount has never lasted more than three filters for me. Another issue is that the filters really dont last very long. In just a short time the "green" led will start to flash yellow and then red. I usually keep it on red for as long as possible to get as much out of it as I can. But the water flow will progressively lessen over time until a filter change is essential. Ive had leaky units that needed replacement. Ive had units break right off the faucet because of a blast of water pressure when the faucet is first turned on. And my last unit had such a problem unscrewing the cap for filter replacement that I broke the unit off the faucet when trying to twist it. Another $40 down the drain. Even with all of the replacements, it is probably still cheaper than bottled water, but not by much and Im sure getting tired of having to buy another unit every 4-6 months. Usually the unit doesnt last much longer than the two filters included in the mount kits I buy. Overall, I would give this product two stars (instead of one) because the water does seem purified through the 3 stage filter. Good Product I was hesitant to buy this product after reading the bad reviews. However, I didnt have any problems with the hardware: it didnt crack, break or anything. Also, I was concerned when I read that the amount of water that comes out when you use the PUR filter would be little, but mine works fine. Water tastes good, Im very happy with PUR. Maybe I was lucky, but based on what I got, I would highly recommend it to friends. Believe it--this thing really leaks Nothing different to add, just need to make it plain that when you read all the other reviews that say this particular model leaks, its not a minor, petty complaint...the thing shoots water every which way after a few months. Pur faucet mount filter these filters are poorly made, third filter purchased and they have all cracked or had the threads to filter strip out, filter is hard to access. Just purchased a Brita filter to replace the Pur and the Brita is superior. my second purchase My first unit was so excellent that when a part broke, I immediately ordered a replacement unit from Amazon; the price was better than any local retailer or their on-line sources. We use it to filter water for cooking, drinking, juice preparation, rice rinsing...... anything that we drink. It is an important kitchen tool. Cheap quality I had been using this product for a little bit more than 2 years, but I dont like it and I will switch if I have other options. I live in a rental apartment in New York city and this seems to be the best choice to purify water. But as everyone else says, the faucet mount will break sooner than you think. Or, it will leak water from the mount because it is hard to make sure the mount is tightly sealed even with the rubber ring. Works just fine Just bought this product and have been using it for a month. Everything works great. Im a little sad that the water out of the tap doesnt come out colder, but the filter does its job and looks nice. Something Good I have used a PUR Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome Filter for 2+ years for my drinking water. The only complaint I have is the hi cost of replacement filters. I generally get 2+ months from 1 filter unles my well is disturbed and sedimate is increased, then ill use more filters. I am satisfied with the quality of my filtered water. How to make it work HOW TO FIX: I had to many filters to let them go to waste so, I brought the one piece white plastic version and wrapped some Clear Silicone Rubber Sealant around the nozzle leak area and it has worked fine. The only problem is that you cant take the filter off of the faucet when you have to change the filter, but its better than letting the extra filter go to waste. Great filter, shoddy hardware. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2DF19RKARFZ4N I have had this filter for about 6 months. These are poorly made. Filters are excellent, the hardware is a joke. A total Failure Product LEAKS from the initial installation - the fittings supplied were to SHORT to allow for a tight seal... The unit is in its box in the garage awaiting a replacement fitting that I am hoping to attain at Home Depot - Where I should have purchased the unit - this would have insured an EASY return.... If you have any desire for a water filter - RUN dont walk away from this Plastic want-a-be.... what a difference! My drinking water smelled like rotten eggs and tasted like dirt, mildew and lead. After attaching this unit, my water is clean in appearance and taste fresh! It leaks a little after switching to drinking water, but not a big deal. Clean water - you know, just in case... Weve had this in our house for over TWO YEARS and its still going strong. Its even outlasted our roof (meaning that our roof leaks more than this filter)! Be warned that warm water is not friendly to the filters on this device, however. The warm water apparently kills the filter causing your little red light to blink. This brings me to my first complaint (or quirk). I can only assume that the lights on this bad boy are run by hydroelectric power as Ive never replaced a batter and yet the lights still blink strongly. The are like a light house warning me of the precarious rocks of bad filters ahead and tell me to change out my equipment before my glasses crash into bad water. I guess another complaint would be that the filters are not cheap themselves. In the end, I really dont feel like Im saving money either. I mean, honestly...I have a faucet... I probably wouldnt buy bottled water otherwise. Altogether, this unit is effective though not entirely cheap to keep running. I guess its an added preventative measure just in case my local water plant is putting out bad water. "Pur" water This is my second system Ive had.The first one started leaking after a week and got worse over time. This one though, hasnt leaked in several weeks. I think the trick is in the threading and tightening. It is a great product and really "PUR"ifies the water. Leaks within few months, but good "filter". This starts leaking from within (not due to faucet or washer) after few months (5th in my case.) This is good "water-filter" but it ends there. its a bad design. its expensive that the catridges are expensive. Still I would have not posted a negative review and liked using it with the expensive catridges, had it not broken for no reason after 5 months. Dont waste your money. For the money spent and life of this junk design, you could buy bottled water for the same duration. Leaks in less than 3 months Crapola from PUR no matter where you buy it. Ive got a shelf full of filters and ANOTHER unit that I just tossed out into the recycle bin. This filter is 1000% JUNK. DONT BUY IT. leaks sprays water everywhere I got this filter unit to replace another pur 3 stage vertical filter because i thougt this one might last longer. it didnt not even thrue the first filter did it start leaking and spraying water everywhere just like the vertical one. Apparently this is a frequent problem. Only wish I had googled it before i bought it. Im now stuck with 2 unused and 1 1/2 used filter and no unit to use it in. company dose not honor any warrantys! A $7 pair of pliers from Home Depot stopped the leaks Weve owned three of these now over a period of five years and counting. We mostly discard the filter once the plastic starts cracking and chipping (typically about two years, your mileage may vary). It has worked great for us overall. I see a lot of negative reviews mentioning leaks. Weve had some issues with leaks, but I think Ive solved the problem finally. I would always hand-tighten the filter when mounting it. After a few months, it would start leaking. Then I would try tightening some more (still by hand) and the leak would reduce to a dribble and we would live with that. When our newest filter started to leak, I happened to have on hand adjustable pliers from Home Depot that can go wide enough to fit the mount. I gave it a quarter turn and that was it, no more leaks. Its been more than a month now. We used a Brita faucet-mount filter before the Pur and that leaked too. I think you cannot give a filter a negative grade based on leaks unless the reason is obviously shoddy manufacturing. A filter will necessarily create back pressure and the water will then look to get out from the nearest seam. If the mounting is not watertight, you will have a leak. Where the manufacturers go wrong is in not informing users that they need to use a tool to install it. They want it to seem like anybody can install the system. So they dont mention the words wrench or pliers in their literature. Culligan is better! I dont know why, but I went through THREE Pur faucet filters before finally chucking them in the garbage and buying the Culligan Faucet Filter. The Pur filters were always leaking from the connectors. And if you tried to adjust them, youd end up stripping the plastic from the connector and being left with an unsightly, scraped up piece of plastic on your sink. And if you do manage to get the Pur filter off to try to repair the leak with plumbers tape, good luck getting the filter back on again. But the Culligans connector is made of metal (whereas both the filter housing and the connector of the Pur filter was made of plastic), so its easy to get the Culligan filter on and off the sink without any leaking whatsoever! I also love how easy it is to replace the filters! Just a twist of the fingers and it comes right out. I once got a deep cut from replacing a Pur filter where the edge of the cap sliced right into my hand while I was twisting it off, since there were no finger grips to hold onto. The Culligan is also nice b/c it doesnt sit as low as the Pur filter, so you can put tall bottles or water pitchers under it with more ease. And the quality of the filter and the taste of the water is the same, if not better than the Pur filter. My main complaint against the Culligan is that it doesnt have an indicator to show you when to change the filter; they tell you just to mark it on your calendar, when to change the filter next. One last hesitation I had about switching over was the fact that I didnt see replacement Culligan filters readily available in the stores. Pur replacement filters are sold in bulk at Target and my local warehouse store. But once, when Amazon was running a buy 1, get 1 half off sale on the Culligan filters, I saw that buying them one by one on Amazon.com was STILL cheaper than buying the Pur filters in bulk at the warehouse store. Add to that the fact that the Culligan filter is cheaper to begin with and you wont have to waste money replacing it periodically when it breaks down and you just have a product that makes good "dollars and sense". poor design Today I bought the PUR horizontal faucet mounted filter. Six attempts to intall the filter failed due to the poor design. The filter is too heavy for the shallow depth/ height of the threads. No matter what I tried, it kept falling off the faucet. I tried taking the washer out in the hopes that a few extra turns would help it fasten. Naturally, this led to leaking. I tried various methods of tightening and nothing worked. On the last attempt and after running water through it for 5 minutes, I stuck my glass under it, and it fell off again. I bought it at Target and will be returning it tomorrow. Interestingly, I installed two similar Pur filters 18 years ago in my college apartment. I had the same problems then as I had today (would not remain fastened). I am shocked that after almost two decades, Pur persists with the same poor design. Time to switch to another brand. Make sure it fits your faucet I ordered this not knowing that it might not fit my faucet and sure enough it didnt. None of the attachments helped make it fit either. I Think Procter & Gamble Hates Me So, I just picked up my shiny, new Pur FM-9400 water filter. I bought this using my P&G customer coupon that they sent to me to replace me previous 9400 model that lasted only a few months. In the past week Ive also purchased a replacement for that water filter, but just returned it because of another leak. The one I installed today is my 4th unit. I love how easy these things are to install. You just unwrap it, connect it, twist it on and.........it is leaking again. Second time in literally two weeks. It is leaking from underneath the plastic ring and as a result it makes it completely unusable. Seriously, I cannot believe that two brand new units are broken out of the box. I havent seen build quality like this since the Xbox 360. this product it's a waste of money this product its a waste of money, dont buy it because it leaks a few days after youre using it Gonna try another brand Between my boyfriends house and my own, weve tried about 5 of the Pur water filters including this one. They all spring leaks within 4 months. I keep trading them in thinking that I just bought a faulty one, but Im DONE GETTIN SPRAYED!! Learn from our mistake(s) and try another brand. Proctor & Gamble do not care that this product is faulty I have owned 4 of these faucet filters and have had the same problem each time- the unit easily cracks and leaks and water sprouts all over the place. Why do I keep buying them? Because the filters outlast the faucet mount. Rather than throwing out the filters (which are costly), I kept replacing the unit. I have contacted the manufacturer. They do not respond. I am now shopping for a better faucet mount water purification system. Any suggestions? PUR Garbage All three units of this model weve owned leak after a couple of months. we bought a model made by 3M today and dont regret not using the last two filters we already have for this PUR unit. Overall Good Product Like other reviews I have read, there does seem to be some leakage when running this unit. Looks like it comes from where the washer is housed in the adapter hooked to the faucet nozzle. I have changed out the washer and carefully tightend the filter to the faucet and the leak still occurs. The filter itself works just fine. GREAT WATER AT LAST! We have a well-water system and have had to use bottled water for years. There is a slight sulfur odor to the water. The PUR Filter does not claim to remove sulfur odor but I noticed that the system did include carbon in the 3 stage process so I thought Id take a chance. There are no odors in the water from the PUR unit and the taste is great. No more bottled water and I have been using the unit for about a month on 1 filter so Im saving money with the unit. Some reviews have mentioned leaks, we have not had any problems but we are a low-pressure system. HELLO-If it leaks it is already in the sink! One review complained that it said it was chrome but its plastic. OK, its simulated chrome plastic. This is not complicated-it looks good an it works! I highly recommend this unit. This One Works Pros: - Excellent at removeing Iron (but you go through filters faster) - Except for Brita this is the cheepest filtration system you can buy - Saves money over buying bottled water - Saves space over haveing a water cooler - Convenient: dont have to lug bottled water into the house, make sure the bottles are out or take them to the store for exchange - Stays Clean: nice shiny chrome finish hasnt tarnished or gotten sun fade - sturdy - ONLY THE CHROME METAL MODEL - PUR FM-9400 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Filter Chrome - Filters last for 2 months (4 person household) or 100 gallons (green flashing light), most of the time unless there has been a water line check. - Filters are easy to replace best price at Amazon 6 pack lasts for the year Cons: - It attaches to the end of your faucet: IF YOU have a faucet that the sprayer is also the faucet you cant use this, I know that is a duh statement, but you would not believe how many of my friends have complemented me on how good my pasta tastes and then I have to tell them they have to buy the more expensive under sink model. Also this reduces the clearance between your faucet and the bottom of the sink and may obstruct other sink activities that you currently take for granted. Could not fill directly my tall pasta pot. - DO NOT FILTER HOT WATER! - Not good if you have a constant "On" water softener (yep another duh moment) - The plastic models break / fade/ and if sunlight comes through your kitchen window and shines on the faucet - the white ones change color. Ive had Bottled , under the sink, out of a pitcher, filtered from the fridge, distilled, For price, taste, health, and ease of changeing filters this has been the best. No complaints about filtering speed I let my Brita pitcher hold it for me in the fridge. Pur Faucet Mount All I have to say to the people who gave it 5 stars just wait , you will have a waterfall too. Back to the Britta. great product Bought my filter 12/27/2008. Filter needed to be changed on 6/12/2009. Mind you I live alone so surely dont go through filters as fast as a family would. It looks good. Its easy to use. Water tastes great. And I love the indicator lights (green, yellow and red) that give you the status of your filter. For those having a leakage problem I have two words for you -- teflon tape. If PUR was smart they would include a little of it with the product along with instructions to use it. When I first bought the filter I attached it to my faucet without teflon tape and sure enough major leakage. So, then I wrapped the tape around the faucet threads a couple of times and then reattached the filter. Still just a slight leak so I tightened it just a bit and havent had a drip since. Great filter!!! I bought this filter just for cooking purpose and the water taste so good that my family also uses the water from filter to make iced teas and crystal light drinks. Great buy for the price!!! Ruined my faucet I bought a Pur filter several months ago. It worked fine, we had filtered water, blah blah blah. But very quickly we noticed that the faucet handle was becoming hard to move, like it was sticky (perhaps water was backing up?). We removed the Pur filter withing a month of putting it on because of this. Our faucet has never recovered, and we will have to get a new one because of the Pur filter. Great filters, Great price These filters and the PUR system are great. I really taste the difference in the water when using it and think that its better than other systems. Ages quickly - In 5 months and two filters, every joint that could leak on this filter does. If was fine for 3 months, then water started leaking everywhere it could. I tightened where I could and made sure all parts were in place, but the internal o-rings just died. I paid $45 for this locally - it should last a lot longer than that. Going to try the Pur warranty department and see what they will do for me. As far as water quality - pretty good. If it didnt leak like a sieve now, I likely would have given this a 4-star rating. Good water, Bad design I purchased this Pur faucet mount filter system to free up space my Britta pitcher was using in my fridge. As soon as I got it out of the box, I was disappointed by its cheap plastic feel. Mounting it to the faucet was a breeze, as it includes different adapters and washers to ensure fit to a variety of faucet threads. However, once mounted, I was surprised to find how bulky it was. Washing dishes in the sink, I was constantly knocking them into the filter, or spilling soapy water all over the counter as I tried to angle them around the bulky filter assembly. Ultimately, I hit the filter with a large pot and cracked the plastic, causing it to spray water everywhere. I would give this product one star, except for the fact that the filtered water tasted very good. Great tasting water!! Just got it today and i love it! The water tastes soo good, better then bottled water. I got a BPA free water bottle and now i am good to go. Cheap Material I bought this "PUR FM-9400 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount" to replace my existing PUR Vertical Faucet Mount filter because it was leaking. I bought this filter from Amazon.com (Got Good Price) on Oct 2008. Today after 7 month (i.e. May 2009) this filter also started leaking. I guess PUR company started using cheap material. No more PUR. It cracks to easily I have purchased two of the PUR filters and both of them developed cracks. The cracks occurred in the part that is directly underneath the faucet, not where the water comes out of the filter. I am reasonably certain it happens because the filter gets bumped quite often when washing dishes. I think it is a bad design since a piece that is susceptible to being bumped by dishes should be made of something sturdier than plastic. I will not buy another one. Makes water taste good but can leave a bad taste after a few weeks Ive been through 3 of these now and I think Im going to give up, all three leaked. PUR sent me a coupon to replaced the first one and after the second one broke, I never heard from them again. Its really a bad design and Im sure PUR has received enough complaints about it to make design changes. I have 2 boxes of replace replacement filters but I dont know if I want to buy another so it can leak. The water tastes good so its just gets 2 stars. water tastes good, filter sucks (leaks) I had two pur filters - one for each kitchen sink (two kitchens here) - they were the type that you have to twist the whole unit to get it to work - and both started leaking after a while - a little, then a lot, to a point where it was unusable. I went to walmart and got the more expensive one (this one) that you only twist a knob to get it to work - "this must last longer, since youre not moving the whole thing up and down" - the thing lasted one day extra from the day I could have returned it - it sounds like a bad joke, but the jokes on me. A few days later, and we couldnt even open the faucet without getting sprayed. Ive installed my whole houses plumbing system - from scratch - so trust me, its not just about "tighten it up" with a wrench. The part where it leaks is UNDER the nut, where theres no access to it - I tried several seals, even tried to take the whole unit apart to see if there was a way to unhook that nut, but its "factory made" - once I had nothing else to do but to throw it in the garbage, I tried to "snap" the nut off - and, like I figured, it shattered. I have 3 new filters, and Im tempted to go and get another PUR because of the filters, but Im sure Ill pass. Good, but Design SERIOUSLY FLAWED So, Ive had about 3 of these within the past 2 years or so. They get their fair use daily, but all end up leaking from the replacement indicator area. I just got tired of buying them, and called PUR today 800-787-5463 press 1 for English, then 0 to see what the warranty are on these things. As soon as I told the lady where it was leaking from, she told me ok they have a 1 year warranty and asked for my address and told me they will be shipping me a voucher for a new one within 2-3 weeks. Will update if I ever get this voucher. She claims it is a voucher for whichever faucet model that I want. **Update** 12 May 09 I recieved the coupon for any Pur faucet model that I want in the mail yesterday. Wow, now to go get one and yea ill update this in the months to come if and when it craps out on me. lol Think it maybe time to upgrade my water system to reverse osmosis or something.... yea i know that costs of that and waste water that goes along with it... just gotta find something more reliable and easy! not an expert I am not a home improvement person or water filter expert. However, the design of this faucet makes filling pans and pitchers with water, very difficult. My guess is that the shape of the filter does not work well with the shape of our sink; this is something people should think about before purchasing a certain model. We purchased this faucet as a replacement for the exact faucet given to us as a gift via Amazon, less than a year ago. The previous faucet began leaking in various places after about 9 months. We thought getting a new faucet would correct the problem. The new faucet, however, began leaking after one month. It is probably something we are doing wrong, but I am not an expert. This is just a description of our experience with this very attractive, but not quite functional (for us) faucet. Why can't they design these things to last? I have been through 6 of these faucet mounts and after a few weeks they all leak. Two days ago, the water shot straight through the front (not where it connects to the faucet) and I got soaked. For what we pay for these units, they should be made to last longer than a few weeks. The water quality here in New York is dreadful so I need a filtration system. I wish Pur would address this problem. The water does taste great until the unit stops working. Worked fine, until it cracked After 1 year of very mild use hairline cracks appeared. Now it shoots water out of the cracks. Most annoying because I just purchased a 6 pack of refill filters. not perfect, but you need this or something similar Ive now owned three PUR filter products. The first was a pitcher, which worked fine. My first faucet mount eventually started to leak and something jammed up the insides a little. Customer service took good care of me. I now have this one ("stainless steel" - really plastic)I really think a lot of the problems were caused by really poor water quality. I live in an older place and sometimes the shower head ends up full of tiny chunks and fragments. The water here tastes terrible, as well. The PUR filter makes it MUCH better. Plus, I cant help but think their could be some health effects from drinking chlorine for years and years. I think its a must have item, if you dont want to spend more for something even better. Slow This looks nice and you can get a good deal on refills but the water does come out fairly slow. I also have carpal tunnel so hard for me to change the filter. I have to wait for someone to do it for me. leaks, cracks, then leaks somemore This my third Pur faucet mount filter to crack and leak. My first 2 had been the plastic versions so I thought you get what you pay for. I got hold of the steel one thinking that there would be no leaking. Well the outside is steel but the essential insides cracked an leaked. Never will buy one of these again. Improved taste Unit leaks Easy to install but has cheap parts. But the taste of the water is better. The unit has 2 water streams: one is straight through without filtering. The other is through the filter mechanism. Water through this 2nd route is considerably slower. Like other reviewers I was not able to stop the dripping when the water is turned on. One would think it a simple matter of resetting the rubber washers but that action didnt correct the problem. For me the important consideration is the drinkability of the filtered water so I will continue to use this gadget to save money on bottled water. Will try another brand next time The first one lasted about 6 or 7 months, then it started leaking around the display window. Not a drip but a nice stream if it would have been a water gun. Went to big box store and bought another one. Dont know why, no way does it last as long as it says it will. Own two, no problems I have a couple of these and have family that own them. I like this one most out of the 5 different filters I have owned. The only setback is having the water come out slower (not a big deal), and also, you have this device attached to your faucet. I prefer this filter over the Brita ones I have owned because it filters more (3-stages). Also, I dont like cold water so its just a matter of filling my cup! ***I read that some people have had trouble with leaks. I had them at first, but that was when using an adapter. Make sure it is tight enough. I also think it might have something to do with water pressure. This filter limits the amount that goes through because it is a 3-stage filter. Make sure not to turn the water on full force. Although, mine doesnt leak when on full force, I do feel some pressure and think after a long time it could cause problems.*** Buying this again, reluctantly Our first one has lasted 22 months, but the seam is leaking too much to keep using it. Even though it seems like 5 cents worth of metal (instead of plastic) parts would have saved me $50 worth of aggravation, not to mention saved the product from going into the trash bin - I reluctantly bought another one, because the benefits outweigh the negatives at the moment, and its cheap enough to treat it as semi-disposable. (Especially since the real cost with this is the ongoing cost of the filters.) What I like: - Knowing that its been tested by Consumer Reports and seems to remove a lot of contaminants - Its compact and fairly convenient to use, and more or less always available What I dont like: - I disliked it even before I had used it, because it was so fiddly to get it to stay on and to not leak (even with teflon tape; though I will say the second one was easier to install given my experience doing it) - And every now and then, installing a new filter has knocked it out again so I get the fun of doing it again - The flow rate is OK after you install a new filter, but dwindles not long after - though this isnt a big issue for us at the moment - And as reviews show, the product inevitably fails. I understand that water pressure is powerful and difficult to deal with, but ... deal with it, Pur, thats what this is about. Contrast my experience with the Brita pitchers - a pleasure to use. Simple, easy, wonderful tasting. If a growing family hadnt increased our need for filtered water, wed still be using just the Brita filter. I guess I dont mind (too much) that we forget its switched to filter. Though, why not have some kind of indicator to help a little bit ... make the bottom of that switch lever orange, or something? And more generally, why doesnt Pur spend more time thinking about how to make these better and less time thinkg about how to make them cheaper to produce? A progressive company would be thinking about how to make it easier to install, and stay installed; and how to make it more of a pleasure to use - so that customers enjoy the product and wonder what other Pur products to try. Instead of being reminded ten times a day of how the product doesnt quite work. Good price and good quality. IT is easy to install. I bought it from Amazon.com , the price is better than marketing ."Why donnt you buy it from here?" I've had three of these. All broke prematurely. What sort of company sells their filter housing with two filters and the housing breaks before you can use both filters? Pur! Ive had three. Each was progressively shoddier in construction and broke sooner than the last. If they sold for $5, Id say go for it. As it is, I just wish I knew what to do with the rest of my filters...I wont buy another of these. Be aware leaking aparatus! Leaks after two months of use. I have owned two of them. useless product. leaks at the faucet connection... no bottled water I bought this so the desire to buy free water out of the tap would go away...not my desire but "others". It worked. Unless I bought a chemistry set and tested the water I couldnt say if the thing works or not. Thus the four stars and not five. It does work in that installation was easy and the little green light blinks each time it starts. No problems there and, even if its the placebo effect, the water tastes better. Junky Folks buy these things thinking they are an eco friendly way to get fresh tasting safe(r) water. I hate to break the news to you, its not eco-friendly if it uses dozens of non-recyclable filters AND falls apart within a couple of years. Mine has failed after about 18 months. I have read other reviews where folks are buying 2 and 3 of these things. HONESTLY! Why? Mine has not only leaked since I bought it. 1st it leaked from the faucet coupling, but now the actual (metal looking) plastic seam has split on the filter housing and is spraying all over the place. And yes, I change the filter as directed. Its fake metal disposable garbage and is wasteful. We have to start sending a message to Pur et al and stop Re-buying crap that lets us down. I have extra filters I have no idea what I am going to do with, but I am not buying another throw-away piece of JUNK from Pur. Works great until it leaks It worked for about 9 months, then started leaking (underneath the cap that you screw onto the faucet), and got progressively worse after that. Every PUR/Brita filter that Ive tried does this. I am definitely not buying another one. Note, this problem is NOT fixable, PUR designed it that way. Stay away from these faucet mount filters (both PUR and Brita design). I will try the Culligan FM-15A filter next, since it seems to have a better design, but I am not enthusiastic about it. How can companies build such poor quality products and get away with it is beyond my comprehension. I suppose its all in marketing. After 5 months of use, I am replacing it First few months you use it is great. But as you keep on changing the filter, the faucet mount cap just becomes harder and harder to close and it starts leaking. I have no problems with its water filtration but I just dont like the faucet mount itself. JUNK! All PUR faucet mounted filters are junk. All they do is leak, do not buy this trash. Don't Bother This produce leaked from the valve to operate it from the first moment we installed it. We had to send it back for a refund. This is bad quality, Dont Bother So far so good. Read a few complaints about leaks with this product. Took the advice of a reviewer and used plumbers tape and tightened carefully with some adjustable pliers. When removing the aerator from the faucet and tightening the mounting nut on the unit be sure to cover them with cloth to avoid damage to the surface. Water tastes great.... Works just fine This filter system is relatively compact, and seems to provide much better tasting water than that out of the unfiltered tap. However, if you are in the rare situation as I am where your dishwasher connects to the faucet for operation, youll find removing the PUR setup a required inconvenience; the non-filtered setting on the PUR system exits the water out of an opening that is not compatible with "quick attach" peripherals like my portable dishwasher. If you need an easy to setup and operate, inexpensive water filtration system for your sink, this is an excellent product. Great Transaction The water filter arrived in perfect condition. This was the best price for the product and shipping out of many other sites I compared. Pur Stainless Water Faucet Product worked just as advertised. I had bought it to replace another PUR water faucet that had gone defective. This model is much better. The service from Amazon was excellent also with the goods arriving faster than I had originally anticipated. PUR FM-9400 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Filter Chrome This is the third Pur model Ive purchased. It is by far the best. It looks great and was a breeze to install. Just outlives the warrenty Ive just tossed out the second one of these Ive bought, not on Amazon but from local retailers, mores the pity since I paid a lot more than this one costs. The first one lasted around six months, the second one just past the three month warranty. Its not like it gets a lot of use at my house. Im the only one using it. With the last one, I only changed the filter once. It looks like Im going to have to go back to my old counter top Brita system, at least until I can afford to get one of the under-the sink systems. Housing Cracked on 2 Units in 3 Years The housing cracked in approximately the same location on the second filter in three years. A 2-3 inch crack appeared between the front of the housing and took a 90 degree angle toward the area that attaches to the faucet. Water spilled out, slowly at first, and then worsened. I replaced the filter with another Pur unit only because I had 8 filters in inventory. Ill look for other manufacturers products when I deplete my inventory of filters. Good for 5 months, then start the problem... When I first consider buying this good looking compact faucet mount filter, I came here and read a lot of the mixed reviews. In the end, I decided that people who got leaky product might be just unlucky. Well I was happy for 5 months, and almost going to write a review and tell everyone this product is not as bad as other people say. Then, it started leaking. I first noticed that after the 2nd filter change, when I turn on the filter, there would be water coming out of the faucet mount. I dismissed the observation, and concluded that this might be an isolated event, I just didnt install the filter correctly. However, to change the filter, I actually never touched the faucet mount. So, the fact that its my faucet mount thats leaking, is actually quite abnormal. After I finished my 3rd filter, during changing, I took off faucet mount and actually tried to clean the faucet filter so that the little rocks that might get caught there accidentally can be removed. Well, my faucet filter actually came out clean. So I put things back, and this time made sure that I correctly screwed it tight, and I did not damage the threads etc. Everything was tightened, and I still got leak, same as before. Which again proves, my faucet mount is probably not the reason why it leaked. By the time I get to my 5th filter, the leak has worsened over time. I now almost have 2 streams of water going when I dispense the "filtered water". It almost seems like Im losing more water than what Im actually able to use. Because, in addition to the leaking during dispensing of filtered water, it now leaks during regular water dispensing too. By now, it has barely passed 1 year since my purchase of this attractive water filter. I am no longer sure I can give it high marks, due to its inability to deliver quality results over time, despite its good look. I suppose, I can still give points for the sleek look, and the fast filtering speed. However, its a big pain dealing with a leaking faucet that I just cannot identify the root cause of its problem, despite being an engineer myself. In conclusion, I dont think this is worth the money. You are better off buying the water pitcher and just patiently wait for the clean water coming out. My PUR pitcher filter lasted me a good 6 years until I accidentally broke the pitcher. This fancy looking faucet mount filter? 1 year would be very generous. Ill throw out mine as soon as I finish all my filters in stock. Pretty Designs that Don't Last First we bought the PUR 3-stage vertical faucet filter system. It lasted about 2 months before the black plastic casing cracked and we had to throw it away. And since we had left over PUR filter units, we thought wed give PUR another try and we got the stainless steel horizontal faucet filter system, figured that it was stainless steel so it couldnt crack any more. But guess what, after 3 months of use, the joined edges of the parts went loose and now water are spitting out all over the places when we try to use the filter. That was another $50 into the trash. Honestly, what kind of QC inspection are they running in production? Their faucet product qualities are just terrible. PUR is going on our blacklist now. Good Tastin' Water! I have been spending a small fortune on water--thought Id try the PUR filter for my kitchen faucet. The tap water tastes so much better, and after reading about more complex systems, feel comfortable about PURs filtering system in this model. Leaks incessantly, stops working after 2 days, junk This product is a piece of junk. It started leaking on day 1 and never stopped. You cannot tighten the screw enough to stop the leakage, even with additional stuffing. The filter stops working after literally 2 days, when the water out of the filter trickles down to nothing. At that point, if you switch to a new filter core, it starts working marginally again for 2 days, and then you have to replace the core again. This is the worst consumer product in the kitchen I have ever used. It never functioned. What a piece of junk! Works, if you get one that doesn't leak I purchased two of these, one from Amazon and one from a local retailer. Installation of both was quick and easy. Water pressure is less than it used to be after installing the filter, but since I dont wash dishes by hand that doesnt bother me too much. My biggest complaint is that the one I got from Amazon leaked. It leaked out the cap that holds the filter in, it leaked out the switch that you use to switch between filtered and unfiltered water. For some reason it also constantly dripped water out of the filtered side. The one I purchased at a local hardware store works fine. No leaks (I did use some teflon tape with this one, just to be safe), water tastes great. I havent had the filter long enough to comment on filter life. I ended up returning the leaky filter. If you get a working filter, its a 4 star product. But since it seems to be a crap shoot as to whether youll get a good one or not, I give this product a 3 star rating. Great product, money saving, but doesn't last a year... I love this filter. I have spring water from a well and sometimes it can taste funky. This filter works great. The water tastes fresh and clean, we all love it, BUT... it only lasted 7 months and I had to repurchase. NOT the filter, the entire PUR system. Oh, well, I love it that much :). Hopefully, this one will last longer. great working water filter Weve had the older Pur countertop filter system for many years. We recently got our new version - the faucet mount Pur. Its wonderful! The water flow is good and strong from both the non and the filtered spouts, and the filtered water is ready pretty much immediately (shown by the flashing green light). Plus theres been absolutely no problem with washing big pans under it. The water tastes great. The turn knob for the filtered water is super smooth and easy. In every way its an improvement over the old countertop version. Lawdog This and excellent product and easy to install/use. One saves tons of cash as opposed to buying bottled water. Our Second Dud from PUR Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! We purchased the FM-3700 model previously, and it lasted through a few rounds of filters (for about a year or so). It then started leaking so bad, we just got frustrated with it, and made the mistake of purchasing the FM-9400. Worked great for a while! Give water a good taste, though I have no idea how many bacteria are able to grow when it is off (when living in Italy, we had a filter that used a silver coated component, to kill bacteria). In any case, this one too has started leaking like crazy. Turn the faucet on, and it sprays the whole sink and surrounding areas. Ive figured out the problem seems to be, the fitting is not constructed to withstand the weight of the filter itself... BUT YOU CANT GET TO THE WASHER, TO TRY AND FIX THE LEAK! I have 2 filters left to use from my last packet, but Im tired of having to exhert upward pressure on the darn thing every time I want a glass of water, and may not make it through these last two. DONT BUY IF YOU WANT IT TO LAST MORE THAN A YEAR!!! Leak, Leak after Leak Well, Ive been keeping replacing new PUR EVERY YEAR!!! Ive never purchase this product again. This is totally waste of money. I cant believe this comopanys keep manufacturing this poor quality products. Great product, great buy! I have been wanting a faucet filter for months. I finally browsed on Amazon and found this product. It works great and it didnt cost a lot. I recommend this product to anyone who is in need of an affordable faucet filter. Good, cheap water filter, no leaks like claimed by some I really like the polished, white finish. This was also $10 cheaper than the chrome finish and $20 cheaper than the steel finish, neither being as good looking. Its easy to install and use, with the nice indicator light, with a nonreplacable battery supposed to last five years. Indicator light flashes for five seconds after turn-on to remind that the filter needs five seconds to be activated. I live in Los Angeles, where the water tastes really awful and it is very hard. The filter does a good job but not excellent one removing the bad taste. There is still some aftertaste remaining, unlike the best purified waters sold at supermarkets. But, despite being very picky myself, I find this livable, and I expect the filter to last enough for me to save a lot of money on drinking water. Regarding leaks: There are absolutely no leaks. Make sure that you are gentle with tightening during the installation. The nut and faucet adapter both require minimal tightening. Same thing with the filter cap -- do not force it. If you are not mechanically inclined, have someone else do the installation for you. Leaks, Leaks and More Leaks I will never buy a Pur product again. This was my third attempt to find one that didnt leak, but no go. It leaks and squirts water all over the sink. If you really want filtered water at the tap, get one of the professionally installed systems. Or switch to a pitcher. These diy models simply dont work. Substandard Quality Went through several of these before I learned my lesson. The casing after 3 to 4 months crack and water begins squirting all over the place. Though the filtrated water was good I just cant afford to continually replace units every 3 months. Leaks like hell !!!! Weve used 3 of these and each and every one of them leaked like hell after a couple of months. At first I just thought we got unlucky, but after three what can I say? Bad product As many other reviewers state - the thing leaks upon installation. If you want a faucet filter, get one under the cabinet or a whole house. Another option is the Brita, which is what we did after this leaked. I even got the stainless one, which is just the cover - its all plastic inside and basically junk. Filters well, easy to install and use, not durable This was a replacement for an earlier instance of the same filter that we previously owned. Works great, but it started falling apart after a little over a year. pur water This is the 3rd pur faucet mounted water filter we have had. It lasts about a year before it needs replacing because of leaks. I am trying to not turn the water on so much with this one to see if it is high water pressure that makes the gasket deteriorate so fast. Despite the lack of longevity with these units, I keep buying them because they really work. Tap water tastes great when filtered this way. The actual filters last a couple of months depending on how much you filter the water. We only filter it for drinking water and for coffee french press. It is the gasket for unfiltered water that goes; no leaks for the actual filtering part. All in all it does what its supposed to do although it would be nice if the gaskets could be replaced without buying the whole unit every time. I Wouldn't Be Without It I always keep a spare cartridge or two on hand so that I can have Pur filtered water all the time. I am confident that I have quality water because this product will stop working once the cartridge is exhausted. Some cheaper filters will continue working way past their prime, making them an iffy proposition as to whether your water is actually filtered. My Pur filter is mounted in my kitchen. I take a carafe of filtered water upstairs for use in my master suite. Purchased bottled water is often of questionable quality, so I bottle my own from my Pur filter. I have dishwasher-safe water bottles that I fill and take with me if I am going to be out of my home for any longer than a quick trip across town. I consider this to be a must-have product. Highly recommended. Great... Much better than brita I had a brita faucet filter before this pur one, and it kept leaking and falling off from the slightest touch. This pur filter is on very secure never have to really worry about it falling off or leaking. I am happy with this product. as advertised ive been a bottled water drinker for years now, and my parents house has a five gallon poland spring cooler. but w/ all the backlash around the actual bottles involved in bottled water these days, i finally decided to try out a pur filter. things have worked out very well so far. i read more than a few reviews about leaking, but in over a month now ive had nothing but the filter perform as advertised. unfortunately, my tap water doesnt get that cold by itself, so i really cant speak to the taste straight out of the tap. even warm poland spring water doesnt taste that great. but throw in a few pur ice cubes and this stuff is fantastic. again, no leaks, no problems installing, delicious water at an absolute fraction of the price i was paying to buy a case of water a week. i would highly recommend checking one of these out to anyone w/ city water. the price alone makes it worth at least taking a chance on it. very good product so far a very good product. Ws easy to install and we use it every day. The filter lasts longer than I expected. Only slight negative, water stream through filter a little slow. PUR FM 9100 FILTER IT OK PUT IT DOES JUST THE THE OTHER ONE I HAD RUNS WATERTO THE BACK OF FILTER AFTER YOU CUT THE WATER OFF. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE. Bad leaks after a year We have the same problem as most, but after a year of good use. We did have to adjust it a few times, but just recently it started leaking out of the area connecting to the faucet just like the video review on here. How frustrating. I wonder why PUR doesnt try to correct this? We may get another, just because we really enjoy the quality of the water, and the fact that we can get it out of the tap for pots, pans and jugs as opposed to only using a glass that fits in the refrigerator door filter. Bad Design / No Quality Control This is our second Pur filter that leaks. The first one cracked and small leaks showed up gradually. The second one (replaced under warranty, and this is the only good thing that can be said about Proctor & Gamble) started leaking right away, no matter how many different washers I tried. We will use up the remaining filters then get rid of this awfully designed thing. Very dissapointed with Pur and Proctor & Gamble. Convience! Good price and quality. Cheaper than local stores and thats before free shipping and no tax. Order from comfort of own home and delivered free. Save gas, time, tax and the cost of buying water. Hooks to tap easily and you have filtered water at you finger tip. Removes nasty tast of city water and gives you a great glass of water any time you want it. I have been using these for years and they wrok very well. Does the job with fashion I had the previous model which was bulky, sprinkled water and broke later. This new model gives water like from a faucet and it doesnt occupy that much space. It looks cools with its little green light indicating the filter state. Its a finishing touch to my kitchen. Worth the money. Nice quality, easy to adapt, little difference in water taste. These are attractive, well made units w/ all the necessary adapters for installation. They are not made for easy regular on/off if you need the room or particularly, higher water flow which is reduced on filter mode to a drip! As for taste: there is practically no change in the taste no matter how much I keep telling myself that its cleaner/safer so it must taste better, but not really, & thats disappointing. Water Quality better than Hardware Quality Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3JLXQJN3W88V9 Video of the PUR 3-stage Faucet Mount Filter. Good water, bad hardware. Weve owned 4 Faucet Mount filters. All of them leaked uncontrollably after 4-5 weeks. The filter outlasts the faucet mount in most cases. POS I saw this product at Sams and bought it without any research. Immediately after installing, I noticed how slowly it dripped. Then, a few weeks later, the stream was smaller and wouldnt even come down straight from the hole. Then, a few more weeks later, the connection to the fauset started to leak. Then, a few more weeks and it cracked open. Before you buy this product, read all the negative reviews. I wished i did. Water runs slower and drips Ive been using pur for about a month, now. Water flow was slow, but ok. But as time passes water flow gets slower and it starts to drip. May be my tap water is dirtier than others (I live in Flushing, NY) that lots of dirty particles are blocking water flow. But still, my tap water is not worst and I expected my filter to last at least two months. But it looks like I have to replace its filter soon, even though indicator says green. Small modification of unit design is needed in order to prevent dripping at very slow water flow. bad system I have had purchased multiple PUR water filtration systems. (Note the words multiple and systems as this should give you a hint towards my sincere displeasure.) The PUR water filtration systems engineering and design are at best juvenile. From my personal experience and reading the multiple reviews proffered via the Internet shows my conclusions are correct. PUR needs to spend more money on engineers and designers and less on stockholders and marketshare with the hopes of making a product that will force consumers like me to NOT send their water filtration system (along with the resulting need to purchase their filters) to the local recycler or at worst, the local landfill. The one system I have found to be the best for engineering, design, ease of use, and reliability is the 4 Phase system from DUPONT. I personally have the Deluxe Faucet Mount 200 Gallon Filter Life Microban system, of the WF-FM350 series. After many "a trial and error" with the PUR system, DUPONT is by far the best! The initial cost (39$) I felt was more than reasonable based first and foremost on reliability. The replacement filters (individually at 14$ - I have never found the need to buy multiple replacement packs) has been also more than reasonable because it filters (excellently) 200 gallons of water (I use filtered water for cooking and beverages). This also means I do not use bottled water. I fill my own beverage containers with filtered water from my DUPONT system. I reuse these containers meaning no "bottled water" containers end up in the landfill. Hopefully someone out there is listening (PUR. Are you there?) PUR Water Filter Purchased the unit and it leaked, leaked, leaked. Replaced unit and new PUR unit leaked, leaked, leaked even with teflon plumbing tape. This unit is junk, junk, junk! Pure Junk I bought the chrome water filter. Within 2 months this thing sprayed water all over the place. Just below the black screw-in cap was the leak. A real waste of money. Dont buy it. I went back and bought a Brita and that one didnt fit the faucet threads. Hopefully someone else makes one. Worthless garbage!!! Dont bother with this POS. Poorly designed and even more poorly manufactured. PUR should be ashamed of themselves for selling such a lousy product. Slows down to a drip after 2 weeks - unusable in my apartment On initial use, the water certainly tasted far better than straight from the mains and the unit performed well... for about one week. The attachment to the faucet was better quality than Britas version, being metal rather than plastic. Like the horizontal version, the main problem, however, is that the water flow slowed down considerably after about 2 weeks and was unusable, giving only a very slow trickle, so slow that it dripped back up the faucet! It says in the instructions that water with a high amount of particles can affect the flow rate, but this is crazy! I had to return this product back to the store. I live in Manhattan, NY if thats any use to any other potential buyers. Ive now tried both Pur horizontal and vertical mounts, which both trickle, then Britas version, which didnt trickle but just sprayed everywhere. My final test is a Clear2O water pitcher... fingers crossed. Starts leaking after 1 month This thing started to leak like crazy after about 1 month of normal use. It leaks out of the black toggle switch on the side and elsewhere. After about 1.5 months it completely stopped dispensing water. We do not even have hard water where we live. I called PUR and they are sending me a replacement. Well see how it works, but I dont have high hopes. Breaks easily. Ive purchased two PUR filters. The vertical model, and this horizontal model. The vertical model cracked after nine months of light use by a single person, and began leaking. The horizontal model leaked a bit from the very beginning around the faucet, and when replacing the filter today once again after nine months, I attempted to tighten it up to stop the leaking, only to have the thing start spraying water everywhere from where the twist knob connects to the body of the device! No amount of adjustment would correct for this, so now, once again, I have a useless $50 filter I have to replace. Even if the economics were in favor of the PUR filter over purchasing bottled water, I couldnt in good faith continue giving them money for a product they know will fail inside a year. This thing should have lasted at least two years. I live by myself and do hardly any cooking at home. Its not gotten a ton of use, and its not like Ive been beating on it. If they made this thing out of metal it might be worth spending the money on, but as is, avoid it like the plague. Very Satisfied With Product The water tastes MUCH better, and I feel better about drinking it. Its true that the water comes out a little slowly, but Im used to that in a faucet filter, and I just keep a glass jug filled up, and multi-task in the kitchen while it fills. What I dont like is that all pur filters add fluoride to your water and the reports on that are mixed. The other thing is that Brita filters have two spray settings besides the filtered setting, and I miss the other setting for washing dishes. Ultimately, the reason I got this filter was so I could buy replacement filters at Costco and save money long term. Good Design So-So Quality I replaced one of those big under the sink filter system with this Pur filter. The Pur was way much easier to replace the filter. No wrench no nothing. Just hand screwed the cap and replaced the filter with no sweat. The tiny filter is very expensive. It lasts for about 3 months max. I buy maybe 10 of them at once when they are on sale. However, the filter housing is very bad in quality. Usually the filter housing will start to fall apart after maybe 5 months of use. I have been using this product for years. I have replaced the housing 4 times already. The housing will either leak or the shell will crack or come apart. I can still use it but it looks pretty bad in the kitchen without the pretty shiny skill. Nothing is prefect. At least this Pur filter system is easy to use and replace compared to my big-full-of-headache-under-the-sink filter. This filter will be perfect if the housing can last longer. The leaks are getting annoying... We actually started with the vertical faucet fixture five years back (which lasted all this while), and have bought another two of the horizontal mounts since Costco stopped carrying the vertical ones. The first horizontal one lasted about 2.5 years, but started leaking about a year after the purchase due to repeated twisting of the cap for filter replacement due to filter usage. The glue holding the chrome plastic housing got weaker and weaker it seemed. We replaced it with another horizontal mounnt about 6 months ago and the construction of the faucet mount is noticeably cheaper. With just two filter replacements, its started to leak really bad when the filter is turned on, making collecting filtered water a hassle, not mention all that wasted water. We love the filter, and the convenience of the faucet mount, but Im finally sick of the wasted water and cut skin (when replacing filters) that unfortunately, we wont be buying another horizontal faucet mounted filter by PUR for the forseeable future. I may consider the vertical mount, but if the materials used has taken a nosedive as well... I guess its Britas jug filters until we finally buy a house and have permanent filters installed. Not bad This filter works great when not clogged. If you dont mind buying a new filter every few months than this is the filter for you. Terrible quality Dont buy this product. Have gone thru two, on both the black plastic nut that attaches the unit to the faucet has cracked, better to return it to the seller as this is the only way they get feedback so they can stop selling this rubbish. Drink up! The PUR 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Filter #FM-9400 is easy to install. The filter mount does not interfere with use of the faucet. The drinking water tastes good. PUR 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Filter #FM-9400, Chrome Much better than previous model, havent had any leaks and filter operation is very smooth. Adapters were supplied, as they were previous, but they had a better fit to them than before. The PUR 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with Filter #FM-9400, Chrome is well worth the time to install, it sure beats bottled water hands down, and no recycling of those little plastic bottles! So heres to going GREEN!!! get one and enjoy! Love it Love this filter. It works better than other filters weve used, by virtue of its simplicity. forget it, save your money I have gone through TWO of these units. Both eventually began to leak from underside. Same flaw in both units. It looks good, and was ok when it worked. Item is a little on heavy side - be sure your tap can take the weight. I do not recommend you buy this anyways. The cheaper plastic version worked much better. hard to get the filtered water , , , Kind of hard to install tightly enough, and the filtered water dribbles out toward the back of the attachment, making it difficult to collect. I still use it, but have to prop up a cup at the very back of my kitchen sink. Filter life WAY too short The filter was easy to install, and worked great at first. However, after 2-3 weeks (using 1-2 gallons per day), the flow of water was down to a trickle. To fill an 8-oz water glass takes about 2 minutes. Filling the coffee maker reservoir takes forever... The claimed lifespan of a filter cartridge is 2-3 months (100 gal), but for me it is closer to 2-3 weeks (25 gal or so). This makes it a much more expensive proposition than advertised. I would not buy this again. Nice Product Bought the PUR Water Filtration System because I am trying to save money and wanted to cut back on the high cost of bottled water. Our tap water tastes bad and needed to be filtered. I read the reviews prior to buying the PUR water filter. The PUR got the highest reviews. It hooks up in about two minutes. Not complicated at all. After flushing it out for a couple of minutes, it was ready to use. The tap water now tastes like bottled water. This is a great savings. I was spending $6 on a 5 gallon bottle of water. Now I am spending about 20 cents per gallon. I would recommend this product. It is easy to install, works great, and is a money saver. Worth every penny! shabby product Two weeks after i installed it leaks started. Try as i may there is no fixing it. steer clear. Second one I've bought. and both leaked where you hooked them to the faucet. Other then that works great! Hard Core Switch!! ive been on bottled, delivered water for years & decided to go another step greener and monetarily leaner. the pur 3 was my choice! it IS slow but i only have to practice patience every other day as i dispense 2 gals at a time into the water urn i own. its been a month, its already paid for itself..GO GREEN!!! Cannot handle water pressure... or much of anything else. Attaching this unit is incredibly easy. However, if you actually want to USE the unit, then the fun stops there. Everything about this unit is cheap. Its billed as being the "stainless steel/chrome" model, but as one quickly realizes that refers only to the color. Even just out of the box the cheap plastic housing on this ridiculously over-priced (it should be $15) purifier was clearly not put together well: the sides didnt even touch each other where they were clearly supposed to come together. The only actual metal on the whole thing is contained in the adapters for getting the unit to mount to your sink. Once I got the filter on (about 10-15 minutes from opening the box), the thing leaked everywhere. Not a subtle, small leak: EVERYWHERE. Where the unit connects to the faucet, where the knob is that allows you to switch between filtered and unfiltered water, and a special note: this thing cannot handle water pressure well. It slowed the flow down so much that the water was leaking heavily around our faucet handle as well. Granted, thats not the units fault its our lousy sinks fault, but do be aware that if you have heavy water pressure this unit will most likely be a problem. (Note: before someone writes a comment about "you just have too much water pressure and thats why this "great" unit didnt work," Id like to point out that even with the water barely flowing it still leaked at the point where it meets the faucet and where the knob for switching is). Do yourself a favor and dont get this unit: on the off chance that yours actually works thats great, but dont risk it if you havent already. 3rd one in 6 months--all failed the same way We are on our third one in 6 months. (The second two were replacements from PUR, via coupons sent to us after we called PUR about the faulty units.) They have all failed in an identical way: leakage, not from the connection between the unit and the faucet, but from the other side (the filter side) of the black plastic "nut" that one uses to attach the unit to the faucet. (The one that we installed today was brand-new, yet had the same problem.) This is basically a design flaw, inherent in the unit, that is not fixable by the consumer. We are throwing in the towel at this point. Taking our losses and moving on. Dealing with this has been too much trouble and taken too much time. Good product, most issues are resolvable! Ive used a PUR faucet mount filter for about 10 years. Although I dont test my water except by smell and taste, I would say it is cleaning the water as advertised. Ive encountered most of the problems people have written about in the reviews. If your pressure seems to slow over time, that is because the filter is filling up with the junk that you would otherwise be drinking. The pressure will increase with your next filter change. If you cant get the filter out when you go to change it, do what the directions tell you: slowly turn on your water and the filter should pop out. If the connection begins to leak, call PUR and complain. Ive done this and they have sent me a brand new unit. I would suggest you keep your reciept and UPC from the box. That may help in your case if the unit isnt too old. The last time this happened to me, they did not replace the unit. This has been a recurring problem for years which makes me wonder why they havent been able to resolve this issue. Maybe they like the fact that people have to buy a new unit instead of just a new filter. They wouldnt do that would they? Other than the leak issue, I am very happy with the unit. Too heavy for faucet I bought this model Pur filter because it looked sturdier than the regular plastic faucet mounts Pur makes. But this particular mount is very heavy for an average kitchen faucet that it pulls the mechanism down too much. The slightest adjustment to the filter itself (even when you change the cartridge) can cause the threads of the filter to become stripped. Unless you have a real sturdy, high quality faucet, I wouldnt recommend this model. With that said, I probably wouldnt even chance it with an expensive kitchen unit for risk of damage to your kitchen faucet. The Best Price Around Ive had my Pur faucet filter for years. I prefer buying replacement filters through Amazon. They are less expensive and, with Amazon Prime, I get free shipping and they arrive in two days. Pur 3 Stage I purchased my Pur 3 Stage filter about 6 months ago. I was very please with the ease of installation and operation. It takes a little time getting used to the bulbous unit hanging on the end of the faucet but becomes commonplace shortly. It does an excellent job of filtering our water. Our water is city water that is almost impossible to drink from the tap due to the strong chlorine smell and other chemical tastes. The pur filter made a dramatic difference! With the filter elements good for about 100 gallons and costing about $18 a piece it is cheaper than buying bottled water or a water service. However, the unit tightening ring used to attached to the faucet broke off and the unit is leaking. I checked the oring that connects to the faucet and it is holding fine the leak is internal and sprays everywhere. I have had to remove the unit and will need to replace it. I have not decided on whether or not to go back with this unit. Easy Installation, Great Tasting Water This is our first faucet mount water filter. We just "upgraded" from the Brita filtered water pitcher. Just three minutes after opening the box I was already flushing the filter (for five minutes, according to easy to read instructions) with faucet water. It comes with three adapters in case you have a faucet with different threads on the spout, but the original threading on the mount worked fine for us. We also purchased the six pack of additional filters and havent had to replace the original filter within the first five weeks. The information provided with the faucet mount filter explains that filter life is based on the amount of sediment in your water. The water that comes out tastes better than the Brita filtered water, but not as cold, obviously. However, we kept the Brita pitcher (without filters) so we could fill it up and still enjoy refrigerated filtered water. It tastes even better chilled. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pathetic! I purchased this filter after reading more positive than negative reviews on several websites. The faucet mount chrome water filter looks fine, installs easily, but it is sooooooo poorly designed that the company should be embarrassed. What some other reviewers call a slower output from the filtered water side is more like a trickle. First three weeks was bearable, slow but steady. Now, it just trickles out and takes about 2 minutes to fill an 8 ounce glass. That is, if the water actually comes out in one dribbly stream. Ive taken it apart, put it back together and it will work fine for a day or two, then its back to its trickle. I can just guess that a design flaw creates a vaccum in the filter and stops the water flow after some use. Whoever designed this POS should be embarrassed! They leak!! I have gone through six of them (housing, not cartridges) in the past three years. The filtered water is good and I can tolerate the slow speed. But we are disappointed by its quality. Every six months we buy a new filter and six-pack cartridges). Unfortunately before we buy our own house we still have to use these faucet mount filters. Great product! It works great! I used to have those huge 5 gallon water jugs sent to my home, but this is much easier, and no waiting on the delivery man! Great Improvement This is the 5th PUR Faucet purifyer I have purchased over the last several years and it is by far the best one. I dont know if it is because I spent the extra for the stainless steel - but it attached easier and the intensity of both the faucet and filtered water is the as close to normal as it can be. For ease of install, stream of water and taste, I definitely recommend this version. Needs slight redesign The filter process seems to work well but the unit drips onto the countertop behind. This seems to be caused by the angle of the unit on the faucet. Instead of being truly horizontal, it is tilted slightly to the rear. When switched from the filter mode to the off mode, a continuous drip runs down the unit onto the counter; a definite nuisance! Two of two developed leaks in a short amount of time Ive purchased two of these. The first one developed a leak within a few weeks of installation. I figured it was a fluke, plus I had a multi pack of filters, so I bought another one. The second one lasted a bit longer, but it now leaks terribly, too. Its a shame its such a shoddy design, as we were quite pleased with the quality of the water. Cleaner water - fast & inexpensively This is a great product for those who want the simplicity and low-cost of an attachment-type filter. This is a new design, and seems to function better than previous models. Well see how long the battery lasts! Only downside I could imagine is that you dont see usage on the filter- either the light says its good or its not. I love the simplicity, and convenience - filters arent that costly either... I recommend it! Worked great, then leaks I loved this product at first, but after less than a year, it started leaking at the connections and now sprays upward. The only way we can use it now is to lift up on it slightly while using it - a real pain. I wont buy another. If this isn't an improved version, don't buy this filter system! I have been foolish enough to buy two of these units over the last couple of years. Both stopped producing a decent flow of water within a month or so of installing a fresh filter. The flow goes from good to impossibly poor in that time with just very modest use. After about six months, a gradual leaking of the connection turned into a major leak when the filter was in filter mode. I love the three stage filter system, but dont get this model. Get the older and less costly vertical mount model. It works much better. How a seemingly good company could turn out such a flawed new model is beyond me! Fine for a while I had a good experience with the pure filter for about 6 months. Then the leaking started, maybe due to bumping the unit, which is large and somewhat in the way. Anyway, the leaks at the faucet connection and elsewhere will cause me not to purchase another. Good at first, sprays, leaks, etc less 3months use! I experienced the same as many. The actual quality does vary from unit to unit, the first filter was a white moveable filter, the second was the same and the third was this horizontal chrome faucet mount. The first was perfect and no problems in over 1 year of use. Due to stupidity ( a pot slipped and cracked the unit) it decided to die. The replacement was a disaster. The unit went on easily, not misthreaded, as easily as the first. The unit went through two months of use before it began leaking from the filter cylinder. I decided to chuck it in the garbage. I purchased the three stage chrome horizontal filter thinking more expensive= better quality. Wrong. Upon installation the unit leaked below the threaded black knob, not my error in threading the unit. Customer service offered to replace by mail for free, I opted for the refund. There are many other filter companies, and worse case I get an under sink mount unit. Unreliable product, too many flaws for me. Thumbs down! Love this filter This filter has made a big difference in the taste of my tap water (and it wasnt that bad to begin with). I definitely noticed that there was no more metallic taste. I use the water in my coffee maker and the coffee tastes a lot better. I have had this item about a month and did not experience any of the leaking problems that others have mentioned. It was easy to install and I used teflon tape when installing as suggested by one of the other commentators and it works fine. I used to buy the gallon jugs of spring water to make coffee but i think that the water that comes from this filter tastes better. i would defnitely recommend this product. Good Filter This is a really good water filter but reading many of the comments I have some opinions to them. Leakage issues: Alright this is a no brainer, the attachment to your faucet, if your hand tightening when you install it, its going to get loose. turning the whole filter while its on the faucet left or right loosens it. Solution: attach it with a wrench, or if your using the extension for the inner faucet tighten that area too. also wrap plumbers tape on threads that are on your fixture. it should solve the problem. also dont over tighten. Price: People say that its expensive, they are priced well all around stores, I got one for 15 at target, and they sell one at costco with 2 filters for less than the price of a single unit online with only 1 filter. also a brita single stage filter with container is around 25 dollars and takes up a lot of space in the fridge. you can just get nalgene bottles and bottle it in your fridge from the tap. Compared to other filters, the 3 stage is the best price vs. cleaning quality. there are other units that are pricier like 5 stage or reverse osmosis, but at that end of the scale it is unnoticeable in difference esp. if you live in the USA. Filter speed: filters are supposed to last any where from from 2-3 months. if your water is dirty (it might come from the pipes) it will obviously wear out sooner. so what if you have to change it every month or 2, is your health worth it? over all its still cheaper than bottled water and much less of an impact on the environment using it. (plastic waste and cost of transportation and packaging) If your water speed is really slow or barley a trickle its time to change the filter. the filtering process does take some time but it shouldnt be that slow. Other problems: it does add on some bulk onto your faucet and may block sink activities, cant really do much about that unless you have a faucet that moves. you shouldnt run hot water though it, it destroys the filter. try to avoid that. has it disadvantages the water tends to dribble back towards back of purr system. theres no way to change the angle of the purr how its mounted on my faucet. the water comes out of the system slow, so be prepared to wait alittle longer than normal for your glass to fill Great Water Filter, Great Value I love this water filter. I have had none of the problems mentioned in other reviews and we have hard water. I now love drinking water because our water tastes great. This water filter is certified by the California Health Department [...] to remove 23 volatile organic compounds, mercury, lead, asbestos, cysts and others. Do a search under [...]for "water filters." Its Proctor & Gambles FM-9400 (its listed under F). Certification no. 04-1681. Many water filters make claims but they are not certified to do what they say they do. This one does. Most water filters that remove this many contaminants cost a lot, lot more. I understand why this is a Consumer Reports "Best Buy" because it is. seems works okay, but LED broke My main complaint is that I had this product for less than a year a half and the LED stopped working. Considering the life of LEDs, this sucks. Im now resorting to replacing the filter based on a 3 month schedule instead of the sensor. As for the quality of the water, Ive used this filter system in two different cities and didnt experience any improvement in taste. I cant say anything the filtration capability since I havent performed any scientific tests on it. PUR JUNK!!! I have owned two of these in the past year. The first one began leaking after about three months of use. Tightening it to the faucet a bit more did not help, the leaks were coming through cracks in the seams of the device. I decided to purchase a new one since I already had a multi-pack of filters. Within three months the same problem surfaced with this unit. Dont buy it. Its junk! Fine until it starts to spray After four or five months of good reliability, the unit started to spray water from the manufactured seal around the mouth of the faucet. Then it started to spray it from more and more directions, until it had become this incredible explosion of water sprays from every direction. While this could conceivably be amusing, rest assured that it has become so inconvenient that I have started avoiding my kitchen sink. Forget this bad-news product. I have used Pur for years but these newer horizontal mount filters leak. I switched to this model so that it would provide a little more clearance than the old style filter but they leak from the faucet fitting and along the edges of the part below the faucet. When the first one started leaking I contacted Pur but they more or less blew me off. Unfortunately, they were on sale when I went looking for a replacement so I bought a second one. Now this one is leaking badly, as well. I am very disappointed. One of the reasons I switched from bottled water to filtering my own was to reduce waste but having to buy a new filter assembly every year or so defeats the purpose. It also is very expensive to keep having to start over. Within months, it was spraying water everywhere When I first purchsed this filter, I was quite happy. It was more convenient than the pitcher filters I had used before. The pleasure did not last. Within a few months, the filter started leaking. It worsened in time and now sprays water everywhere when I go to use sink--whether I am using the filter or not. Im currently researching replacements, but I will not be buying Pur again. Pur Horizontal faucet mount falls apart I have enjoyed having filtered water at my tap however I have thrown away 3 different Pur Horizontal faucet mount filter systems. They leak from the manufactured seal after only 2 months of use. The first time I contacted the company and they sent a new one free of charge, however this one also began leaking. When I contacted the manufacter again they sent me a coupon to purchase another filter to replace. That third fitler system did the same leaking mess again shortly after 1 month in use. Upon contacting the manufacture yet again they told me that my house water pressure must be too high and instructed me to decrease the water pressure to my entire household. The water pressure in my home has never been too high, in fact our household water pressure is very low in pressure causing us to not use the water at the sink during showers or sprinkler cycles. I did NOT turn down my household water pressure. I will not use a pur filter anymore as a leaking water filter system provides a mixture of unfiltered water into any container used during filter useage. Faucet Mounts HORRIBLY DESIGNED!!!!!!!!!!!! I am extremely picky about my water, I will only drink Sams Choice bottled. And if I have to Evian, anyway, the water that comes out of these filters is pretty good, good enough for coffee and cooking....BUT...and thats a BIG BUT........The faucet mounts are horribly designed, they break, they leak, I bought one, I had it for a couple months and it now leaks, bad enough that I cannot use it. So, now I am stuck with a few filters, of which are extremely expensive.....So, I ask PUR WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DESIGN A WORKABLE FAUCET MOUNT????????? No stars.....horrible product I have owned PUR faucets for over two years now and the story with all of them is the same: the collar that connects to the faucet broke on each of the 4 mounts I owned including this same model. At first I figured it may simply be a defective model but now I am convinced PUR makes substandard products. I love the filtered water that come out of it, I just hate the fact that they break so easily. Heres my tip to PUR: PAY YOUR MECHANICAL ENGINEERS BETTER. Now I am left with a few expensive 3 stage filters and I have no choice but to buy another one of these crappy things. Fool me once shame on PUR, fool me 5 times...I must be an idiot. Great Product - Shakey Business Practices This is my third unit. Each one works great. It is very easy to install. They even provide several adapters to cover most models of faucets. Use some Teflon tape when installing and dont tighten with anything other than your fingers. Do this and the unit connection will last a long time. I also got a plastic swivel aerator from Home Depot that makes this just perfect. Too bad they didnt think of that. The filter indicator light is a nice feature so you dont have to remember when you replaced it last. It lets you know when to replace the unit. I always keep an extra filter on hand. Its great for coffee and tea, less frequent cleaning of the coffee pot and no build up in the tea kettle. The water tastes great too. I am a little concerned about Amazons business practice with this purchase. The contents were previously opened. The components were complete and a new filter was included, but, the parts were loose. If they hadnt left the opened bags in the box, I might not have known. I would assume the manufacture was sloppy in packaging. The bags the parts came in were opened, and the parts were loose within the box. Pur Water Filtration System Filters do not last as long as stated by the manufacturer. Tend to leak around faucet nozzel. Pur Water Originally, I started using the Pur Filter because my landlord wouldnt install a water purifying system for my house. Since, I prefer it. I have used the filter for approximately 10 years and am satisfied. Simply the best This is the best filter you can buy. If it leaks, you installed improperly. not so good The filter leeks constantly when the faucet is on. Brita is better than Pur. Next time Ill go with Brita, at least it starts leeking after three month. Pur Faucet Water Filter I am very pleased with this water filter. The horizontal fauce mount is very convenient and space saving. It is an attractive addition to the faucet itself. Expensive Water Leak Ive been a PUR fan for several years now, but this is a horrible product. I was an early buyer of PUR faucet mount filters when all you could get was the regular model that you have to twist downward to turn on. The biggest problem with those is the fact they take up so much room in your sink. I moved about two years ago and noticed this newer style that mounts higher, leaving more space available in the sink. It seemed like a no-brainer! DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The first one I purchased lasted about a year. I figured it started leaking because I or my girlfriend hit it with a pot or put some kind of stress on the connection at the faucet. The replacement lasted about three months and started leaking badly. I needed another one in a bad way and figured I had just gotten a bad one. I picked up (yes, I did...) a THIRD one of these and it leaked in less than a week. It literally sprays water onto the kitchen floor. Im preparing to get two of them replaced or refunded by PUR. The older style PUR faucet filters are FINE, they last for a long time and they are a LOT cheaper. Just get the 3-stage version. This horizontal version is flawed in design and will be nothing but a nightmare for you. Best filter in this price range -- great tasting H20 For me, the quality of filtration and the taste of the water are most important. The Pur filter delivers both. The third stage of the 3-stage filter in which minerals are added back into the water makes for excellent tasting water. Other filters, such as Britta, simply remove everything leaving a less-than-desirable taste. Ive had no leaks or problems. Sure, this is not an industrial-strength or industrial-priced filter. Eventually something will give and it will need replacing. But I had my first Pur filter for four years. It lasted until I moved and I left the filter along with my old house. I bought a new one for my new place and in both sinks I had no trouble installing the filter. I have absolutely no knowledge of tools or plumbing or anything remotely "handy" and it was a cinch for me -- so anyone can install one of these. Just look at the type of faucet you have and find the adapter that matches it. Its a no-brainer, really. Dont over or under tighten, and be sure to include the little rubber ring and therell be no leaks. Great taste. High quality filter. Reasonable price. Better than the competition. Poor product quality This is my third filter in two years. First Filter: Worked fine the first few months. But changing the replacement cartridge is a pain. After few replacements, it loses its grip on the faucet and leaks horribly. The green light just didnt work after a month. And after about a year, its big cylindrical thing just broke from the mount. I had a three-pack of cartridges left with me (they are costly) and just to use them, I had to buy a new one. Its good money chasing bad products - poor decision making!! Second Filter: It started leaking from the get go -around the filter unit, faucet adapter, and faucet. It was like a lawn-sprinkler. Wife was screaming mad - the kitchen was a mess. So took it to Lowes. The plumbing guy said he has seen many of these dead PURs. His diagnosis - a twisted O-ring adjacent to the filter switch - every time I turn the switch, it was pushing the unit to crack open and hence the horrible leaking scene over my kitchen sink. He suggested I call their customer service for a replacement as these have 5-year warranties. Now the CSR part: They were polite, understood the issue without much explaining. Probably they get numerous such calls. The CSR promised me a manufacturers coupon for a new one. I was surprised that they didnt ask for any proof. I didnt have my receipts. The CSR even asked for the box it came with - nope I didnt have them too. So here I am with my 3rd unit in 2 years. And I promise that as soon as I am through with my cartridge supplies, I will be done with PUR. Its a big water filled thing thats attached to the faucet via a very stupid nut. Just the basic laws of gravity tells that its going to fail. Not useless like everyone says it is... Ive been using this faucet purifier for over 3 weeks now and regularly fill my gallon water pitcher and random 20oz water bottles multiple times throughout the week. I dont understand why some people cant get this to work right. I installed it by hand, no extra tools needed like someone claimed, and it hasnt leaked once. Not one drip at all. If you have hard water, like in NY, this filter will clog quickly because it is not made for hard water purification. If you are filtering sewage, it will probably clog quickly. I have no idea how to find out if you have hard water, but apparently I dont. I live in central PA and after three weeks of nearly 2+ gallons a day it is going strong. It took the chlorine and odor taste and smell out of the water perfectly. It tastes great and I have no complaints. It takes me 20 seconds to fill up a 20oz bottle...not forever like some posts would suggest. Of course it will reduce the water pressure, it is "filtering" it. To be fair, it is not chrome, but a chrome finish on a plastic part. However, it says it is a "chrome finish" on the box. It is sneaky advertising, but it says it on the box. I dont know why people think this product sucked. As long as you can turn something by hand clock wise, youre ready to go. There are only at max 3 possible steps to the installation equation. I had it on and working within 5 minutes and I dont have a degree in mechanical engineering. It worked fine for me and I am glad I bought it. Update: I have now had this product long enough to replace the filter, almost two months. Replacing the filter was simple and easy. Pop the new one in and youre set. I figured out how much water I filter and it came close to what the manufacturer said I would get. Two months later and this product is still working fine with great tasting water. No leaks at all. Works fine as it should. An OK filter... Ive had two of these now. A few thoughts: - It is convienent and easy to use. - None of the provided adapters fit my new (1 year old) faucet. I had to do lots of looking in hardware stores to find an adapter. - The filter housing is made of PLASTIC, contrary to what the description says. These are chrome colored plastic, NOT stainless steel. - Consequently, my first one leaked fairly soon after I got it. Its not made very tough, in my view. And given its size and location over the sink, its easy to knock it when rinsing pots and pans. - I find the flow through the filter is very dependent on the water pressure coming from the tap. I notice that my building water pressure fluctuates significantly, and my flow through the filter correspondingly changes. That said, the flow through the filter is never anything near what the tap puts out. Convenience We have been known to make our every-two-week pilgrimage to Costco to get our bottled water. Honestly, it is a lot of work to carry water around. And like PUR notes in their ad: "Theres more than one way to get 100 Gallons of Drinking Water into your home." The other problem with bottled water is the bottles you have to recycle. I will probably still buy some bottled water, but the recycling load will be much less. What amazed me was the ease of installation. Before, I had tried to install an under the cabinet "fancy smancy" water filtration unit which was much higher in price. What then occurred was a leak in the system and unfortunately I did not realize that on certain kitchen faucets, you cant do the installation yourself when installing a water purifier. I then had to call a plumber and had to install an entirely new kitchen faucet. Save yourself this hassle and expense. To Install this product: 1. You remove the faucet aerator. 2. Check for an adaptor (they include a few for internal threaded faucets) 3. Attach the filter to your faucet. 4. Install the filter cartridge. Yes, it is that easy. Sure beats water torture as you are under the sink trying to peer into the pitch darkness of under cabinet plumbing life and water is dripping on you in a most annoying fashion. I have a completely new respect for plumbers now. The PUR "Activated Carbon Microfilter" filter up to 100 gallons of water which means you replace the filter every 2-3 months. There is an "automatic safety monitor": that has a red line which appears in a little window at the front of the filter when the end of the filter life occurs. At such time, you just replace the filter. Keep one on hand for such a day. This product claims to reduce lead, mercury, asbestos, MTBE, and TTHMs. This product should not be used with microbiologically unsafe water. Five Stars for ease of installation and peace of mind! I can even order the filters here with book orders. ~The Rebecca Review Leaks and cracks We have used Pur filters for years now, not by choice but because we are always able to get a new one by calling in to the company because the unit either cracks or falls of the faucet before the warranty is up. The company is VERY good about sending a coupon for replacement with any Pur faucet mounted unit. The filter is junk, the free filters in the future kind of make up for that. If you dont want the hassle, go with another filter! good product with few issues Its a good product, but there are some basic issues - Water leaks from the connection - Pressure reduces after some days of use - Extremely difficult to replace filter I have been using this product for a while. It broke off, when I was trying to change the filter. Slow Filter I timed how long it takes to fill a coffee mug with water: Filter off - Tap 1/2 on - 4 seconds Filter on - Tap full on - 50 seconds. This is not very usable or practical. Usable for about 2 weeks. The product worked well for about 2 weeks in New York. After that, the filter become clogged and required change. 5 minutes to fill a glass! In a word, this product "sucks." I have experienced the slow flow problems so many others have experienced. It literally takes 5 minutes (!) to fill a pint glass full of water. It comes out at a drip. This started happeneing after just 10 days or so of use. I am going to toss it and buy a different system. What a crock. GARBAGE Filter worked perfectly for a week then water pressure started to decrease drastically. thought it may have been the way it was attached to faucet. or perhaps the filter. changed filter and still water trickled out so slowly that filling a glass of water became a serious test of ones patience. i decided to call pur. apparently this has happened so frequently with this product that they have a line set up just for this problem. according to the message i live in a city (NYC) that has hard water and water that is difficult to filter and so on...and thats all the help i got- a recording. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Great product. All I can say is this thing works like a champ. Ive been using it for a month now with no problems. Its changed my apartments tap water completely. I used to almost want to throw up from the strong chlorine taste from the tap water here, but this Pur filter really did the trick. I no longer have to buy bottle water. As for the problem with the washer leaking everywhere, use a wrench people. I couldnt tighten this thing down without one. I also havent experienced the unusal "short life filter" problem others have described. Then again I dont have toxic sludge for tap water. This filter works as well as anything on the market I have owned this filter for five years and it has worked well. It cracked yesterday and I am going to buy the same one. Changing filters can be hard because of the O ring seal, its very tight. But I understand that most are. The first day or two after installing it it leaked a bit, but after tightening the adapter it stopped. I think I would rate as good as anything Ive seen on the market. Good for a faucet mount filter I have to say that this product is very good for what it is. I really like the chrome finish as opposed to the others- they just look cleaner. I also really like the indicator light- it reminds you that youre supposed to wait 5 sec to get your water. As for the other comments regarding slow flow rates- its a water filter! There is no way that you can realistically expect the flow rates to be the same. You can always do something else while youre waiting for the water to fill a large pot- its called multitasking! Ill accept slower flow rates for the money savings of not having to buy bottled water. As for the filter longevity, I havent had major problems. Ive had my filter for a year and a half and I just replaced the third filter. Granted that is with only one person in the house. There are times that I would rather not have something mounted on the faucet but I havent taken the time to do anything else. All in all, I think its a good product! I love it, use it every day I like the chrome horizontal filter. I do not get the leaking or spraying that others have mentioned. My only complaint is that it is slow to fill up pitchers and teapots. The slow stream tells me that the filter is working, so I put up with it! Piece of junk The Pur Faucet filter is a piece of junk. Ive owned it for two months and it only worked decently for about four days. It comes with two filters. I used the first filter for two days before the water began coming out so slowly it was unbelievable, Im talking a good minute or more to fill a normal glass. When I changed the filter it worked well again for two days before doing the same thing. Not only does it take forever to fill a glass, the water comes out so slowly that it trickles down the outer filter casing and drips and drabs all over the place, rather than running into the glass. I dont know what the deal is, other than the possibility the filter is getting clogged. Ive never been so disappointed in a purchase. $40 thrown down the drain (pardon the pun). Im done with Pur. Used for years & love it Ive used PUR filters for years in my home and on my boat where they eliminate the plastic taste from the tanked water. They run slower than an open tap, but the resulting water is wonderful & worth the wait especially if you live in a high chlorine content water area. The filter also eliminates the need to put distilled water in your steam iron and car batteries. Don't waste your money!!! The Pur Water filter (faucetmount) is the WORST water filter Ive ever tried. The "new and improved" triple filtration system they use is horrible. I can only use it 5-6 times before the red light starts blinking to replace the filter. At first I thought it was a fluke so I replaced the filter, and 6 uses later- there goes that red light. It is an absolute waste of money. I cannot and will not recommend your product to anyone. Great Faucet Filter System I purchased this in lieu of a pitcher system. It is easy to install and the LED indicator for the filter is fantastic. No guessing when the filter needs to be replaced. I have not used other faucet filtering systems, but this one is easy to install and makes NYC water taste better. I have been using this filter for 8 months now without any problems. Acceptable as anticipated The PUR faucet works as advertised and anticipated. Your service was exaceptional as I received it days before it was expected - thanks! It didn't last long While the water tasted better, this model didnt last for more than about two months before leaking and eventually spraying water all over the place. Works fine for me I purchased this filter about a year ago, and it works just fine. Pros: - Saves money over buying bottled water - Convenient: dont have to lug bottled water into the house, and dont have to throw out the empty containers - Decent looking: nice shiny chrome finish - Filters last for many months, and are easy to replace (just buy online). Cons: - Filtered water pours out more slowly than unfiltered water. There is a switch to select filtered or unfiltered water. Unfiltered water will pour out as normal, but filtered water will pour out more slowly. To be exact, I just checked mine, and it pours at a rate of 1 fluid oz./sec. This will feel really slow at first, but since you probably do a lot of multitasking in the kitchen, you quickly get used to filling a container with water while you do something else for a few seconds. - You are attaching a big thing on the end of your faucet: this reduces the clearance between your faucet and the bottom of the sink and may obstruct other sink activities that you currently take for granted. For me, this made it more difficult to clean or fill with water a tall pot that I like to use. Hope this helps The water tastes better Just so you know, this filter isnt stainless steel, its brushed plastic that looks like stainless steel. When I installed it the units adapter leaked constantly and I couldnt tighten it up enough to stop it. I returned it after that and exchanged it for the same model in "chrome" which is a few dollars cheaper but otherwise exactly the same unit. It still leaks a bit but my water tastes better now and doesnt have as much of a chlorine smell as it used to. Theres still a trace of piped water taste but at least I feel better about drinking it knowing that most of the contaminants are filtered out. Its a great idea for temporary installations but is not as good as an undersink water filter. Its a little bulky for the faucet so it interferes with dishwashing and I miss my swivelling aerator which cant be attatched now. An undersink filter with spigot would serve much better for long term installations. All in all its good for the price and the electronic filter life indicator is pretty neat! Its done wonders for my local water which is not great to begin with. Filter is great, but not worth spraying your sink over... My wife and I bought this Pur Filter and installed it yesterday. One thing we immediately noticed was that when we attached it to our faucet, the water stream was no longer a smooth stream into the sink like it used to be... now it was a full-on spray. Its a real inconvenience to try to run water over a spoon or into a glass for washing when you need pressure and your stream is spraying all over your hands and sink. I havent read any other reviews where anyone else has had this problem, so were going to take this model back and exchange it for an upgraded model. Maybe we can chalk this one up to bad luck, but I would definitely not buy this one again. chrome is better!! chrome is better!! REAL CHROME!!! If color doesnt matter for you, white is also good. Drink tastes the best! I brought for $18.48 including shipping with two filters for the white Pur Ultimate Faucet Mounted Horizontal Filtration System and $20.49 is for the chrome one. It was a BIG sale! Chrome is way better!! Try it!!! thanks Maybe a little too expensive I bought this filter two weeks ago, and I really like it. I did notice a difference in the smell and taste of my water (although almost imperceptible). I just wanted the water cleaned, as I drink a ton of it. The main complaint is that it did in fact leak. I used a little pipe-threading tape, and now it just barely drips. The other problem is how slow it comes out of the filter-- 5 or more minutes to fill a 2 gal. jug. Thats a minor point. Finally, I kind of wonder if $20-$30 for the filters might not be a little extreme. Nevertheless, if you understand the real price, and get someone to install it, I would recommend it. Overpriced Garbage! I find it more than a bit ridiculous that Pur charges 40 dollars for their product and 20 - 25 dollars for their replacement filters. I have owned 3 Pur sink mounted water filters and every one of them has ended up in the garbage within the first year of use. Why? Because they begin to leak at the faucet connection and this leak grows progressively worse over time. Tightening the unit does not help and in fact may make the leak worse. Removing and reinstalling the unit does not help. I have become so frustrated by Pur water products that I will never again purchase anything made by them. I just installed a Brita filter on my sink a couple of days ago and no problems yet and even if any do occur the Brita is more reasonably priced at up to 15 dollars cheaper for the sink mounted unit. Do yourself a favor and avoid this over-priced piece of junk at all costs. Leaks initally, but not forever I bought this particular filter and faucet mount for a couple of reasons. First, I had something called chlordane in my water (an insecticide) and I wanted it out. Secondly, my water had a very strong chlorine smell to it. I looked into getting a filter that scrubs chlorine, and maybe I eventually will, but for now this particular filter works fine. I bought the mount because it just happened to be on sale when I went to the store to buy it. I had read a lot of bad stuff about the vertical filters and how they consistently leaked after a few months, but hadnt seen anything like that for their horizontal mounts. I was a little disappointed at first when I installed my filter because it did indeed leak. Fortunately, it doesnt leak from the filter housing, but rather where the filter is connected to the tap. Eventually, that problem went away, though not before spraying water all over my kitchen. I was also not happy with the prospect of having to run my water for five minutes to clean out the filter, but I lived with it. Really, I may sound negative, but Im actually quite happy that I bought the filter. My water tastes better (though is still heavy) and smells better. I feel better now that Ive removed the chemicals from what Im drinking, and I well pleased with the filter. The water flow is fine, though Ive heard it tends to slow down as it gets older. The display to let you know when the filter needs replacing as opposed to just guessing is nice. Its a good little filter unless youre looking to scrub chlorine from your water (it only removes taste and odor) and worth consideration if you just want water that tastes better. Improved style I have used PUR plus filter system with vertical faucet. But, this one is better than that. The chrome color is really wonderful because it goes with most of the faucets. Also, horizontal faucet with PUR ultimate filter gives you really good quality water. Water which is really good in taste. Try it! |
