Does the job...I think     On: 2010-03-05

I bought this for my allergies and it seems to have helped some. It seems to make my place smell more fresh, I guess. The only thing with the filter is, I never see anything on the inside filter only the outside one. So Im not really sure if its actually doing its job. It still runs quiet and I havent had any issues with it that other people have been complaining about.
Worked great at first....     On: 2010-02-20

In terms of the effectiveness of actually cleaning the air its very effective as long as it moves back and forth. Ive done some air quality testing and it seems far more effective when the unit oscillates versus when its pointed in one direction. The unit worked great at first but after a few months of use it makes an annoying clicking noise as it oscillates. Sounds like it gets caught on something every time it moves back and forth. Ive tried taking it apart and lubricating the oscillating parts but still makes the clicking noise. I would not buy again.
Maybe for summer.     On: 2010-01-15

I dont much care for this purifier. Maybe I will like it better in the summer, It really does blow cold air. My light has never come on, Although I have completely cleaned it twice in 3 weeks. not much stuff in it. The Filters are clean. Husband snores less, when I used in bedroom, but I had trouble with the so called white noise? I found it rather loud. I dont know if it was worth the money, Ill maybe like it better this summer.

Works well for smoke     On: 2010-01-09

This was worth every penny! I bought this for my boyfriend, for his smoke room and I cant smell smoke throughout the rest of the house any more. It really cleans the air good. I havent tried cleaning it yet, but I am sure it will be a breeze.
Air Purifier     On: 2010-01-08

I bought this air purifier for my sons room. He has a ferret and it gets pretty musty in his room and I thought this might help. It works great, only takes up minimal space and operates quietly. It is also very easy to clean. I like the fact that the filters are permanant and there is no need to buy additional filters. A Great Buy.
TOO LOUD     On: 2010-01-04

Way too loud. It says "whisper quiet" on the box but in reality it makes an electrical motor like reving sound that is anything but quiet. This reving only gets faster and louder the higher you turn the fan speed up. Also the cord is too short, it says place three feet away from the wall and thats about how long the cord is. Between the reving sound and short cord this product is junk plain and simple. Unless you are deaf, hard of hearing or live under an overpass than this product is not for you.
So awesome I've ordered a second one!     On: 2010-01-04

Despite being a skeptic of air purifiers because of the horrible one I owned 10 years ago, the reviews for this product (and threats from my husband to buy a more expensive one) encouraged me to give this one half a shot. It is amazing!

We have always been perturbed by the dust cloud in the sunlight at the patio doors and this filter eliminates that! The manual states that the few particles that are not caught in filter, like pet hair, are charged by the ionizing system to make them easier to vacuum (true). After six hours there was a noticeable difference in the air. After a week, I moved the filter to the bedroom and was able to tell a difference in my quality of sleep (severe allergies) and the main level had regressed from not having the filter during the night!

As for the "noise level" that a few reviewers have complained about, mine is so quiet that I cant help but wonder if theirs was defective or damaged in shipping. I feel like we are writing about different products. It is very quiet and we received comments from Christmas guests on how amazingly quiet it was! Even on high it doesnt interfere with the tv, reading, sleep, etc. I have had mine for 3 weeks and have purchased a second so I can quit moving this one at night. If mine start acting abnormal, I will update my review.
It's an air cleaner, a fan, and a white noise machine all in one     On: 2009-12-19

I hesitated for a long time before purchasing this product. Im so glad I finally bought it! The slim tower does take up a small bit of space, but it doesnt look intrusive in my home. The variable speed options mean I can put it on low (quiet) while in the room, then put it on high when I leave for a more thorough cleaning. Oscillation makes all the difference. It moves the air around much more efficiently. So far it has tackled cooking smells and smoke with ease. The permanent filter is a big plus for me, as I cant stand hunting for replacement filters. Its not heavy or bulky at all and I have no trouble moving it from room to room, but Im considering purchasing another unit so I can keep this one in a permanent location.
Not worth a Dime     On: 2009-12-18

I just cant see how this unit gets the reviews it does. It does not capture fine dust and infact lets so much through that the fans collect it and they start to vibrate over time. I ran mine for over 6 months and the inside main filters did not capture a single bit of dust.

Dont waste your money. Sure you wont have to purchase filters, but you cont clean your air.
reccomended     On: 2009-12-14

Bought this to clean air for cigarette smoke. Works great, neighbors cant smell anything anymore, they were complaining constantly. Easy to wash and clean the filter. works very quiet. we have it for almost 2 months, running 24/7.
Outstanding Performance     On: 2009-12-04

Absolutely no complaints! It does blow a bit more air than would be ideal, its almost a fan even on low and on Med or Hi it does blow a lot of air. Its not completely silent, but if you expect one this size to be then youre not being realistic. There was as a bit of an odor for the first 36-48 hours but its gone. The air is much cleaner - I can simply see it! We have it a room that also has a cats litter box which is of course very dusty - but after wiping off several surfaces of all this litter dust it was not returned in several weeks with this unit running 24/7!
Allergy Free     On: 2009-12-03

I bought this because my boyfriend was keeping me up with his sniffles and sneezes due to allergies. I have two cats and my room seems to collect a lot of dust. This worked immediately. The power had gone out and I forgot to turn it back on, my BF woke up sneezing again. I turned it on and with in 15min he cleared up. Ive also noticed that the dust collection in my room is minimal.
Perks; Its really quiet on low, acts as a fan on high. Its tall and narrow so it wont take up too much room in the corner. Once you buy this you wont have to spend any more money on replacement filters.
Rattle trap piece of junk     On: 2009-11-28

After about 2 months of use on medium it began to rattle LOUDLY. Its as if the fan and motor assembly are separating or a bushing fell apart. It is easily the single loudest item in the house. It can be heard from 2 rooms away. Cheaply made and underpowered. Since I only got two months of decent use out of it, it cost me about 75 dollars per month of use. I was robbed.
Honeywell Air Purifier     On: 2009-10-28

I purchased the Honeywell HEPAQuiet Air Purifier over a month ago and I am very pleased with its performance. It is quiet and emits a nice gentle air flow. We have it on the medium speed as we have a dog and cook frequently. When we come in from the outdoors, our place smells fresh and so far we havent had to clean it. I would highly recommend this product.
Good air purifier     On: 2009-10-13

I have an apartment full of pets and I am very allergic to cats. So with 2 cats, a dog and fish in a small apartment, I really was having issues with sleeping at night. I cant say when I first got the purifier, that it was the most amazing thing in the world. I can say that I leave it on at night and I do wake up and feel 10 times better when I wake up in the morning. Not to say, that it has completely controlled my allergies, but I do place it wherever I am in the house so that they are controlled to an extent. I would recommend it because it has helped with some nights that were sleepless. I havent cleaned it yet, but I have taken it apart and it seems like it should be a breeze to clean once it comes time. Also it is very quiet and it has an almost ambient sound for when your sleeping. I also will have the tv on from time to time, and it does not block the volume out on that as well.
NOT a HEPA filter!     On: 2009-10-12

I received this as a gift from someone who wanted to get me a HEPA air purifier. Based on the product name "HEPAQuiet Air Purifier", this one was selected. Be forewarned - the name is incorrectly listed on Amazon! It is actually the "Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower Quiet Clean Air Purifier". No where does it say "HEPA" on the box or on Honeywells webpage for this item. It uses an electronic filter - NOT at all a HEPA filter. Originally thinking I was sent the wrong item, I returned it for a replacement, before realizing it was that the title listing on Amazon was wrong. Amazon let me return it with no problems, but it was quite a hassle to go through all the confusion.
My house smells amazing now!     On: 2009-09-22

I love this purifier. It comes fully assembled, just plug it in and turn it on. Since its tall and thin it doesnt take up much space and with three settings it is very quiet. When Im watching TV or talking with friends Ill put it on low or medium, but its on high at all other times. I have a pet hedgehog and while he doesnt stink, his cage smells kind of musty. This purifier has completely gotten rid of the smell, and now my apartment just smells fresh. Definitely recommend this product!
I love it!     On: 2009-09-20

I have two dogs (lab mix and German Shepard mix) and I bought this because my girlfriend always complains that my house smells like dogs. She also gets allergies and starts sneezing because of them. Well I did my research and tried one of the imitation ionic breeze fans from Wal-Mart. That didnt work too well. It gave me a headache I guess from all the "ions". Then I came across this product. I read the reviews and told myself why not.

Since Ive bought it Ive seen a BIG difference. The house doesnt smell like dog anymore and when my girlfriend comes over she doesnt get allergies. I see all the crud in the air that the Honeywell picks up from the filter in the back and it seems like a lot of pet dander. This is one of the best purchases I have bought. Its been about 2 months since Ive bought it and I havent cleaned the filter yet. Try it out, you wont be disappointed!
Quiet and effective.     On: 2009-09-15

My wife and I are very pleased with this purifier. Extremely quiet and seems to be effective.
wonderful air cleaner     On: 2009-09-05

i bought one of these units for my living room. I have a germguardian for my bedroom which I am returning to store and I ordered another one of these for my bedroom. I have COPD, asthma and need a good cleaner. I am very impressed with the stuff this one takes out of air....no more odors or dust.
my personal observation     On: 2009-07-12

I recvd this product promptly, anxious I set up immediately, product had odd electrical type smell to it for almost a week, running for 24/7. After that smell went away, the product works GREAT and I am pleased. Cleaning is a breeze ( I use my air compressor ) Have owned several air purifiers in the past and this one seems to work BEST. The reason I purchased is for pet dander and it does work.
Great product     On: 2009-06-30

This air purifier works great.. Any smells in the air decipate within seconds... I have horrible allergies; this air purifier made me feel ten times better.
Love this air purifier     On: 2009-06-26

I suffer from allergies and sinus headaches and once I started using this product, the headaches I woke up with every morning have almost disappeared.
Loud Rattle Noises After 2 Months - Unacceptable     On: 2009-06-26

I bought this due to price and design - and brand: honeywell sounds good. I read people complaining about the noise, but when I got it I felt it was an acceptable level of noise.
I had this unit running for two months now, and suddenly the noise became intolerable. The way I can describe it is as a vibrating rattle as if the enclosure holding the fan motor was coming apart.
I am past my return period by a few days and would have got stuck with out of pocket shipping fees + 15% restocking according to return policy.
To make matters worse, I took it apart to clean it and was not impressed with the little amount of "dust and gunk" that came out of it. Dont expect this thing to filter out as many pollutants as are claimed on the video! Its just a fancy fan.
Works well     On: 2009-06-16

Live in an apartment with smoker underneath us. Got the fan to help with stale smoke smell. The fan is very quiet, air smells cleaner and I dont notice the smoke smell as much when it is running. My apt. is 1350 sq. ft and I only have one fan which covers approx. 200 sq. ft. so im sure if i had more fans it would be even better. i just got the one fan for the living room which was the worst room and it seems to be helping. i would recommend it.
Honeywell HFD-120Q air cleaner     On: 2009-06-04

We have been using the filter for about 3 weeks, pretty much constantly. It is quiet but produces some useful white noise. I am surprised the filter element hasnt needed cleaning yet. The unit has a reasonably small footprint, so its fairly unobtrusive. Seems to be a good buy based on the results so far.
good choice ~     On: 2009-05-29

If you are looking for a decent air purifier with permanent filter(s), I would highly recommand this product. Ive purchase 3 units and had to return one due to weird fan noise, but all units are working fine now. I would be bit concerned for the winter time use, since it does create bit of draft even at the lower fan-speed setting. I had the units running for 1 month now and air quality in each room got better. I do have seasonal allergies so it did help a bit not a big help.
Unreliable quality     On: 2009-05-27

I own two of these units and the quality is hit or miss. The first one I bought runs fairly quietly and assembles/disassebles easily for cleaning. The second unit has a very noisy fan that sounds like it is out of balance and rubbing, the filters wont stay in position and the back panel has to be taped on to keep it from falling off. While the pre-filter seems to pick up a lot of dust I cant vouch for the two interior filters. If they filter out anything it certainly isnt much. Not worth the cost in my opinion.
Great air Purifier     On: 2009-05-27

I started looking for an air purifier after I got tired of waking up every morning with sinus congestion and the typical allergy symptoms. After spending a fair amount of time researching purifiers, I finally decided on this unit and Im very happy that I did.

After the first day, I started to notice a difference in the air quality in my bedroom. It had a much cleaner smell (taste?) and my allergies started to clear up the next morning. Like a few other people, I had a little bit of funk in the air when I first turned it on, but that went away after a couple of hours.

With regards to how loud this unit is, I know that volume is a very subjective thing and that whats quiet to one might sound like a jet to another, but I was really shocked at how quiet this unit was considering how much air it was kicking out. On its lowest setting, its very easy to sleep through, and Im not the heaviest of sleepers. On its highest setting, its noticeable, I wont lie, but its not loud enough to force me out of the room or have to yell to have a conversation.

Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower HEPAQuiet Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter, Black

I received this unit yesterday, but didnt get to try it out. Hence, the one star rating. When I read the set-up instructions, they said the unit has to be placed 3 feet from the wall and any furniture. Placing it 3 feet from the furniture made it set almost in the middle of the room, where we would probably fall over it. I think that would be a hazard in any average size room. The instructions also said to place a small rug under the unit to keep it from staining the carpet. None of this information is included in the product description. I returned it today, but I have to pay the shipping and handling costs because Amazon doesnt consider it their fault. Maybe its not, but if Id known the above information, I wouldnt have ordered the product in the first place.
Awesome for the price!     On: 2009-05-10

Well i my opion i believe is really good for the price and some tests have reviewed this item as VERY good. i got this thru amazon cause they have it the cheapest and free shipping so thast good! it makes some noise but is good enough to sleep with. concerning the really micro dust that may go thru because they have no positive or negative charge well get a uv light in your ac and that will do it!this item is not for big areas!works great in room around 14*20.
good product     On: 2009-05-04

I purchased this product a month ago and as of now it works very well. Since we cook lots of Asian spicy food, the smell of the food used to remain in the house. After the use of the product I have seen a considerable difference in the air I breathe and I do smell fresh air in the room whenever I walk in to the room. The coverage area is less. Other than that a good value for your buck.
We don't have a single complaint!     On: 2009-04-30

We bought this in Feb 2009 - we still love it! We got this because I suffer from really bad allergies. We dont have a single complaint, so far. It works! The air smells great. theres less sneezing, even less itchy nose. Its easy to clean. Quiet. Perfect speeds. Good air circulation. Good size. We keep ours in our bedroom - we only move it to other rooms when allergy season hits because I need the relieve everywhere I go. I wish it came in a different color? Silver, maybe even an off-white, grey? Something other than black would be nice. Well be buying another for sure.
Just What I Wanted     On: 2009-04-28

I wanted an air purifier with a permanent, washable filter and went on Amazon to see what was available. After reading the reviews for a number of models I ordered this Honeywell model and I have not been disappointed. It works as advertised; is quiet, has three speeds, oscillates, and the dual filters are easy to clean. A good buy for the money.
Started making ticking sound after 4 days     On: 2009-04-27

At first I thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then 4 days go by and it starts to make a ticking sound. I found online the HFD-110 model has the same issue. Apparently if you take it apart and clean a few parts the clicking will stop for a short period of time :-). I took the filter out and it doesnt seem to have collected much dust.

After 4 days Im not taking this thing apart like someone suggested here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/p539850-honeywell_quietclean_hfd_110_air_purifie

Instead Ill be sending it back. Its a shame because it really was quiet and I had high hopes for it. Maybe I just got a bad model.
Perfect     On: 2009-04-20

Had this unit for over 6 months now. I live in Saudi Arabia, thats in the middle east if you dont know. And its pretty much desert all year around, with sandstorms kicking in whenever they can.

I picked it up at a local store because it has a washable filter and I adore this machine.

I clean it possibly, ever two weeks because of how much this things picks up, and I havent had a "paint thinner" smell and I actually use it in my bedroom, with the door closed. I havent had "black walls" like some people say. I find that ridiculous, or something is wrong with their paint in their homes.

The pre-filter catches most things, and the electrostatic filter is just amazing. Having the ability to wash it with water really shows you how much black/brown debris this thing catches.

The only DOWNSIDE is that I think the actual built in fan which pushes the air out is cheaply made. Its ball-bearing and on the low setting, you can hear the bearings (only after 6 months, but Ive had this thing on 24/7). But personally, I dont care and will be buying another one for the other rooms in the house. I also love the fact how the top rear has a slight indentation, allowing me to carry it easily around the house. Its also for small rooms, but most of them are.

And as for the IONIZATION part. Its not an Ion Generator. The Ionization is a BY-PRODUCT of the filtration process. There is a BIG difference between a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze (Generator) and this thing. There have been reports, and they clearly say that you could literally have 20 of these in one room, and youll still be below the FCC/FDA allowance levels.

"In fact, you could operate up to 24 Honeywell QuietClean(R) Air Purifiers* in a single room and emit less ozone than the FDA suggested limit!"

ENJOY! And buy one!
Nice unit     On: 2009-04-15

I would recond this unit, I am going to purchase a second one. It keeps the air fresh, so I assume it is also clean.
Great air purifier!     On: 2009-04-05

I primarily bought this to minimize dust and allergens (as a matter of fact, I bought two). I also have a cat and wanted to reduce pet dander and any pet smells. This air purifier works great! I dont have to dust as often, there are no bad smells ever. Its works wonderful and the price is great. If you are looking for an air purifier this is it!
Excellent quiet performance     On: 2009-03-28

I noticed the improvement in air quality immediately and noticed allergy relief. We have dogs and I am surprised how fresh and crisp the air is. Works well for a bedroom 14 x 16. Only thing I dont like about this machine are the controls. The top buttons have to be turned up before you can turn off. Other than that it is very quiet and a good buy. The permanent filters were an attraction since filters run about $40 for other purifiers.
HFD-120-Q does not appear to be ozone generating (despite other posts)     On: 2009-03-02

One post states that this unit "emits ozone from the ionizer", and others mention or question ozone or ozone-like smells.

I just thought Id share what Ive found thus far on that point, and a useful independent air cleaner product testing organization and website. One may be wise to question and do their own research regarding manufacturer claims, and similarly question any unsubstantiated comments by reviewers (my statements below included).

It appears the Honeywell HFD-120-Q does in fact meet current standards for ozone emission, at least as shown on page 8 of the "2009 Directory of Certified Portable Electric Room Air Cleaners", Edition No. 1, January 2009, published by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) (www.cadr.org/consumer-certified.htm). AHAM is "an organization that verifies the testing results of home appliances such as room air conditioners, dehumidifiers - and, of course, room air cleaners" (see introductory page of Directory).

The AHAM directory provides useful comparison information regarding rates of smoke, dust, and pollen removal, and a room size for each unit. The HFD-120-Q compares favorably, so Ive given it 5 stars on that basis (and in fairness given the preponderance of other 5 star ratings, and my other experience with Honeywell products). Im personally also concerned about comparisons regarding electricity use (Greenhouse gases), generation and disposal of waste (e.g., used filters), maintenance time and effort required, and total cost of ownership. Ozone generation, though, doesnt appear to be an issue relative to the HFD-120-Q (or units of other major manufacturers, as listed in AHAMs directory).

The EPA webpage cited in another post (www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html) discusses ozone generating devices in general, but after 20 minutes of searching that article and a number of its links I could find no mention or citation of a specific air cleaner being cited as generating ozone at a rate above standards. In one linked article I found only the statement that "Some portable air cleaners using electronic air cleaners might produce ozone", with a link then provided to the AHAM directory (see "Portable Air Cleaners" section: www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/airclean.html).

AHAM does note that its testing does not include a repeat of ozone tests performed by Underwriters Laboratories: "Underwriters Laboratories Safety Standard 867 recognizes 50 ppb as a maximum ozone emission limit. Participants may voluntarily provide certified ozone emissions data to UL Standard 867, Section 37, which is not subject to separate verification testing by AHAM. Additional information on ozone emission is available from individual manufacturers."

Those concerned about ozone emission from air cleaners should do further research themselves (e.g., Underwriters Laboratories information). This is as far as Ive gotten myself. I too am wary of biased information, and "facts" are often hard to come by.
made walls black     On: 2009-03-01

Not sure if this thing is any more than just a fan..when 1st bought it made the room smell like paint thinner, but only a day. After about a month I noticed the walls turning black, along with putting a black film on everything such as my tv, bed etc. Actually lost me $ because my landlord took my sec deposit from the damage to the walls. Oh and the red light that tells you when to clean it, that doesnt work. Never saw it come on in 6 months Ive had it. 2 bad cant return it now..DONT WASTE UR $$$
Experience = Good     On: 2009-02-26

I received my product in February 09. It came in a large brown amazon box with paper-type packing material. Inside this was the Honeywell box. I opened the box and was able to lift the air filter out by grabbing the back top. I removed the styrophome around the top, mid-portion, and base. Then I removed the transparent plastic covering around the unit including the covering around the cord.

Plugged it into the wall and it started out on medium, then switched to low ( as it is supposed to). I hit the power button again and it increased to medium. Hit the power button again and it increased to high.

Sound review: On low the unit is quiet enough so that I can study even right next to it.

Medium and high generate more sound, similar to the common tower
fans.

The unit also has the option of rotating side to side similar to
many tower fans. This swiveling is silent (nearly silent), and I
cannot hear it (I have normal hearing).

Dust reduction: I have only had this for a day, but the air in my apartment seems less dusty.

I would definitally recommend this over the small $40 units which are generally noiser and filter much less air.
Great Airpurifier     On: 2009-02-25

This is the first air purifier my husband and I have purchased and we love it. Great Product.
Info on amount of electricity used     On: 2009-02-24

Ive seen some comments in various places about the amount of electricity used by this product - so I hooked this product up using one of those inline meters - here are the results: Low speed: 26 watts; Medium speed: 31 watts; high speed: 44 watts.
Not Bad...So Far     On: 2009-02-18

Not much to say at this point. I have had this item for only a few weeks. So far it has diminished dust to a degree, although there is still a slight accumulation of dust in the room it is in. Less than before to be sure. It makes a slightly annoying clicking sound as it turns. There is a small static discharge if it, or electric appliances it is near, are touched while it is turned on. But in all, and for the price, it has reduced the dust problem and handles odor problems somewhat - which are the reasons why I wanted it. I have yet to clean it. So depending on how that goes might affect my rating.
this rocks!     On: 2009-02-13

As far as Air purifiers go, this is probably the best one ever made. Im seriously considering buying another. I love the NO FILTER aspect and it is easy to clean. I recommend this to anyone!
Honeywell Air Purifier a Winner     On: 2009-02-06

I was looking for a quality tower air purifier that did the job removing dust particles from the air on my kitchen and family room (one large area) and a unit that looked nice. This thing really does the trick. I dont see dust flying around when the sun shines directly in the room, its easy to clean, extremely quiet and looks good doing its job. Great buy. Thanks Amazon.
emits ozone     On: 2009-01-24

I do not own this product, but I refuse to buy it because it emits ozone from the ionizer, which can potentially be dangerous for your health overtime.

Buy an air purifier that doesnt emit ozone. If you want a Honeywell, there are other purifiers under this brand-name that dont emit ozone.

But, be sure to do the research yourself, dont trust these corporations.

Great at eliminating dust, household odors     On: 2009-01-17

The Honeywell HFD-120 is a great air purifier. Ive been using it for about a month now, and have noticed a significant decrease in kitchen and other household odors, as well as airborne dust.

Like all ionizers, it does produce some ozone -- this is the cleanish "chemical" smell that some others have noticed. Ozone is just O3, compared to Oxygen being O2; so its not the biggest deal, but some people are sensitive to ozone. Ive found that its fine in a large living room, but it might not be good for a bedroom, especially if you sleep with the door closed.

The fan is very quiet on low, and noticable but not annoying on medium. On high youll need to turn the TV volume up; but I find I use high only for rapid cleaning. The filters capture a noticable ammount of dust and lint -- and even captured a couple of gnats!
Honeywell is quality!     On: 2009-01-16

Awesome product. My parents loved it. How this tower rotates keeps a larger area clean, along with a hand hold in the back so you were able to carry it to another location easily. I am still the Best son ever who got the best present ever! Oh and amazon shipped it in no more than 36 hours, because it was at my house a day and a half later. I just choose to have it shipped under normal 7-10 days shipping. Impressive.
No more dust!     On: 2009-01-06

I received this product as a Christmas gift and love it! The first thing I noticed was that the air in the room smelled fresh! It also removes a large amount of dust from surfaces. It runs quiet, you barely notice it on the lower settings. I am plagued by indoor allergies and this product has made a real difference. Im sleeping better, sneezing less and dont have to dust the room as often. As budget allows, I would like to buy several more and put them all over our house. I reccomend this product to anyone who is tired of breathing dusty, stale indoor air!
Absolutely Love It     On: 2008-11-15

We recently bought this item based on need and reading the reviews here and so far we are quite please. It is a hundred times quieter than the last model we had and we both noticed a difference before the day was out in the living room area.

There was a plastic smelling odor that was quite strong when we first started it up but it gradually decreased over a 12 hour period. I am really happy that we did do research on these items and actually found the perfect one for us. You wont find anything as quiet and give you the cleaner air as this one. Perfect Purifer     On: 2008-10-19

Excellent, quiet, small, air is visibly cleaner. A very worth while purifier for people with allergies.
Okay until it broke after 14 months     On: 2008-10-10

It was decent, not great. Got a lot of stuff out of the air, but didnt get rid of all the smell. It wasnt too loud but it died after 14 months. Just turned "on" but the fan wasnt running.
Breathe easier and feel better     On: 2008-10-10

I bought this 6 months ago and run it 24/7 and the amount of dust and dirt I clean out of the filter ever 2 months is amazing. When I bought this I had a cough when I would lay down to go to bed and would cough through the night and wake up my girlfriend. After 1 month of running this air purifier I havent coughed since. I also have more energy when Im at home and dont feel as lethargic or feel the need to open windows to get fresh air into the room. If this cost 300 dollars I would still recommend it to everyone I know. Great product, operates very quietly and easy to clean. If I could give it more stars I would.
does what it's supposed to     On: 2008-07-27

The air in my new apartment was terrible when I moved in. Id walk in the door and start sneezing and my nose would start running. Whatever it was in the air was driving me crazy. I finally caved and after researching some air filters and finally settled on this one - not too expensive, and large enough for my living/dining/kitchen apartment-layout.
The change wasnt by any means instantaneous, but i was patient and gave it two weeks. I forgot it was there (very quiet) and after a while I realized I wasnt sneezing like mad anymore!
I love it. Now Ive been introduced to the world of air purifiers, I will never go back.
good buy     On: 2008-07-04

3 big dogs live in the furnished basement when I am at work...imagine that smell. not only it has a permanent filter, it actually works very well [isnt it the whole point of buying one?]. the doggie smell is gone and the air is fresh. job well done.
I'm talkin' dust people!     On: 2008-06-04

I bought an excellent slim and quiet air filter for my small home. It worked great but was soon overwhelmed by the amount of dust in the air. I live in Southern California on a dusty breezy property and I often keep the windows open. So I soon became overwhelmed by paying $50 for a "three year" filter that lasts me about 6 months.

This particular model has a nice oscillation function and that funny ionic smell one reviewer complained about left after the first day. I would give it a full five stars if it didnt make considerably more noise than my quiet quiet one- which kills this model on the dbs. However, the functionality of washable filters for my situation is king. The air is noticeable much cleaner and quiet mode is quiet enough for me.

Dork note: my cat was weirded out by the oscillation which was quite funny for several days.
I can breathe! Breathe!     On: 2008-05-19

I am allergic to so many things in the air that I dont remember the last time I didnt feel one of the side effects of the allergic reaction.
While this nice Honeywell tower does not cure my allergies completely, it does make my sleep a lot more enjoyable, since it noticeably refreshes (and cools) the air and traps lots of dust. I dont have a stuffed nose when I wake up!
I really enjoy this air purifier     On: 2008-05-17

I received my air purifier earlier this week. So far, the unit works extremely well. I dont know why other people call it noisy. Even on the highest setting, I dont hear it. I guess if you have no noise in the house, you are going to hear it, but its much quieter than when you listen to your air conditioner running in the house. I dont even notice it. When the TV is on, or Napster, I never hear it, even on the highest setting.

I used to have to clean my filters on a cheaper unit(different brand) every third day, and both of them died after two months. I have been very impressed with the quality of this unit so far, and it works very well and removing smells. I am already a neat freak without allergies, so I purchased the unit to get rid of smoke smells. It work wonders for that.

The only problem I have had is that it has increased my dogs allergies. I have a Lhasa that has eye problems, and his discharge has increased. My vet says thats because the unit pulls the air from the middle of the room, and dispenses it near the bottom of the room, and some dust discharge does come out. I havent noticed that, but again, I get rid of dust myself like nobodys business. I honestly dont think that his discharge is due to the unit. its allery season for him.

I recommend this product. Since so many other brand units die after a couple of months, I feel confident that this one wont, and even if it does, I can return it to the manufacturer. After five days of use on low and medium, I have not had to clean the filter yet, and I run it almost the entire day.

Give it a try.
it works for me     On: 2008-04-30

i never needed an air purifier until i lived in a rain forest area of Oahu and there is a mold issue, as well as occassional vog (volcanic smog) i didnt want to use air conditioning (we have wonderful breezes, theres no need for it) i noticed a difference in the first 24 hours i used this. i let it run 24/7 and im only in the room to sleep, dont have to close up the whole house, has worked GREAT and would recommend it. it did have an odd odor for about an hour (of course it was new)
average while it lasted     On: 2008-04-19

Product worked well for 4 months, then suddenly failed to power on. Product shows no sign of life whatsoever- extended service is through a 3rd party vendor, so I am guessing that repairs or service will be hard to acquire.
Summarized:

-product produced cleaner air than no filter at all, yet air quality seemed inferior to other true HEPA filters
-clean air produced by filter had a consistent faint metallic smell
-product was quiet, providing great white noise at night
-oscillations were fluent and gentle
-brief product lifespan severely limits quality- I simply cannot recommend this product
Works great     On: 2008-04-10

I knew I wanted a permanent filter because I didnt want to buy replacements. I read reviews for this one (along with a ton others),i decided to ignore the bad ones and took a chance on this filter. Can I say it is GREAT, I love the long tower desing and the fact that it oscillates. I live in a city apartment and all my windows face a high traffice avenue, on top of that I have a dog. This filter has made the air in my apartment so much cleaner, and I def. stopped waking up feeling stuffy. I keep in on high most of time and its actually very quiet. And it has not had any effect in my electricity bill.
I can breathe!     On: 2008-04-09

Ive had this air purifier for 5 days so far, and I can already feel the difference in how clearly Im breathing. I can actually breath through both nostrils, something I havent been able to do for months due to dust and pet hair allergies. Another nice perk is that we dont have to dust the apartment as often, we usually dust every 2 days or so, and so far, Ive seen no need.
Worth much more that what I paid.     On: 2008-02-18

I recently moved into an older apartment and developed a cough from the dirty air being circulated through the vents in our heating/ac system. I was unsure if buying an air filter would help and after ready review after review I chose this honeywell. Not only is this as quiet as a fan on low but my cough of 2 months was gone after using it for only 3 days. Another thing that I think I should mention is that I feel like I have more energy in the morning and generally feel better. My wife says I havent snored as much lately either...lol.
HONEYWELL TOWER HEPA AIR PURIFIER     On: 2008-02-13

IT WORKS GREAT!!! DUSTING HAS BEEN CUT DOWN BY AT LEAST 50%!!! WHICH TO ME IS A GREAT PLUS. THE ROOMS HAVE NO ODOR. I HAVE 2 DOGS, WHEN YOU WALK IN MY APARTMENT, YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW IT. NO DOG ODORS AT ALL!!! A MUST HAVE TO CONTROL ODOR AND DUST!!! THE PERMANENT IFD FILTER, IS ALSO GREAT, NO FILTERS TO BUY, JUST CLEAN IT!!!!!

No more medications!     On: 2008-01-06

After doing lots of research, I decided to buy the Honeywell HFD-120 HEPA Air Purifier.

I like that its tall and thin as its easy to put in the corner of the room. I also like the fact that it oscillates and doesnt just blow air in one area.

I have to clean it out about every 2 weeks but I do have 2 dogs that are often in that room. Cleaning requires a quick vacuuming and a rinse of the pad. It takes no more than 5 minutes.

Its a bit loud, but I keep it on the highest setting durning the day and the on the lowest at night. I am a light sleeper but on the lowest setting its not that loud.

The permanent filter is nice since filters can be so expensive!

After about a week, I wasnt waking up in the morning with allergy symptoms. For that fact alone, I am satisfied with it since I no longer depend on medication to feel good.
COULD BE BETTER     On: 2008-01-05

I read all of the previous reviews. My research said this was the best item.I have used it for a month. Prefilter had 1/16" of dust on it. The inner filters had very little accumulation. It does better than the name brand tabletop that claims to do a 30 x 30 room. Maybe I expect too much. Will monitor the purifier and advise later if I see noticeable improvement. I am within the parameters listed by manufacturer for the size room purifer to be used in. The problem I am dealing with is dust created by the hot air heating system. The room in question is at the end of the system and deposits dust instead of the air and dust going to the return vents. The furnace is not strong enough. I expect to update this review later.

Ive had this filter for three weeks; have been running it 24 hours a day and so far so good. I dont have serious allergy problems but I am living in Beijing so I just need something to make my air cleaner. The filter does leave the room smelling clean and theres a lot less dust particles floating so it seems to be working for me. Lastly, the filter can circulate around the base, or not and is relatively quiet in the low fan speed setting. Ive broken 5 ionic breezers from Sharper Image already so Ill keep my fingers crossed until Ive had this unit running longer.

Great product. I used it to get rid of the smell of fire smoke in my house and it did and excellent job. A bit noisy when set to high level, but not a big deal.
Strong, unpleasant chemical smell coming from this air purifier.     On: 2007-12-13

When I initially plugged in the Honeywell HFD-120 Tower Air Purifier, I was so excited, because after only 30 minutes, my apartment smelled incredible fresh and clean. However, when I left the unit on medium over an entire weekend with the apartment sealed up against the cold weather, I came home to a place that smelled like paint thinner! Alarmed, I turned off the air purifier, opened the windows, and the smell was gone. Sure enough, it was coming from the air purifer. I was wondering if it was the ionizer? Really strange chemical smell.

Also, the fan itself put out a lot of air, which would be great in the summer, but was too cold for this time of year. It will cool your room substantially.

Sending the air purifier back to Amazon, and ordered the Honeywell 50250N 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier. After extensive research and reading all the reviews, with a special thanks to the reviewer "Wolf" for making sure to ordered the right model number.

I should add here, for fairness to Honeywell, that I also own the Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier, which I use in my bedroom -- I absolutely love it. Great white noise (rushing air sound)/pretty soft-green nightlight. This little tabletop purifier keeps the bedroom air really fresh, and my cats dander, shedding hair, and dust in check. I do not use the ionizer feature with this model. Nice to have the option. Really glad I got this.

I would not suggest buying the tower air purifier.

Good luck to anyone looking for this type of equipment. Will write another review of the Honeywell 50250N when I give it a good test drive.

Minimal Difference in Air Quality     On: 2007-12-06

I want to point out two things in this review: The quality I have observed, and some basic maintenance observations.

I use this purifier in a work environment that has fairly high air quality, but I was still surprised that after 3 months of use, very little dust had accumulated in the filter. There was some large particulate on the foam filter, and only the tiniest layer of dust in the HEPA-style filters. Perhaps if I worked in a coal mine I would feel like I was getting my moneys worth out of this thing. As it is, I feel duped.

Also, I want to point out that both the foam filter and the electric filters can and should be washed with water, and that the machine does not automatically detect a cleaned filter. After cleaning, you need to manually reset the "reset filter" light by using a pen to depress the small button next to the light. (This info is presumably all in the manual, but this may be helpful for review-reliant manual discarders like myself.)
It does work, and good.     On: 2007-12-06

Some have given this a poor review based on the fact that they dont see anything when they clean the filters. They are using the wrong criteria to judge the efficiency of the filter. The outer covering catches most of the heavy dust (mine was covered with dust after a couple weeks use). The HEPA type filter is reducing microscopic elements such a spores, and smells (ions). As nasty as this stuff is in the air, it doesnt accumulate to much visually. That does not mean it is not there! In fact, when I cleaned mine the water turned a nasty yellow brown. Im glad that stuff didnt end up in my lungs. The real test is the fresh air you be breathing. Someone moved in below us and the are very heavy smokers. Somehow our furnace pulls up their smoke. Well this unit has saved the day. It only does a medium size room, so I am going to get another one for more coverage, and it is about as quiet as these things get.
If you are a SEVERE seasonal allergy sufferer this is for you...     On: 2007-11-30

I have to tell you, I did really extensive research on Air Purifiers before buying this one, and Im glad that I did. I suffer from really bad seasonal allergies and this gizmo has made my home a sanctuary away from allergens. When used with my allergy medication, I am able to live allergy free!!! Dont waste time even looking for another quality air filter. Its quiet and small, plus it works. What more can you ask for?
Works great & is very quiet!     On: 2007-11-25

Ive had no problems at all with this model. Its very quiet and works great. I have had no allergy flares since owning this machine which tells me that its doing the job of making sure that dust & dog skin & hair particles are removed from the air.
Not the performance I expected     On: 2007-11-25

Well, I didnt expect it to compete with a $600 Oreck, but I dont feel like I got $149 out of it, either. Noisy. It does help with odor elimination; Ill give it that. After running for several weeks, the pre-filter had collected very little dust. I finally opened up the insides to clean the cells, and I couldnt tell that they were dirty. Guess the reason you dont have to clean this thing very often is that it doesnt collect enough to clean. I would not buy another. We mainly use it now to make enough fan noise in one area to mask noise from another area of the house. On the bright side, maybe thats okay when you dont want to use a noisy box fan that puts out a lot more air when you want to stay warm, not cool. Just make the best of it.
IS THIS A JOKE?     On: 2007-11-25

I have owned this filter for about six months. I was really interested in it because you never have to buy replacement elements. After using it for a month I cleaned it and didnt find any dust or dirt in the electronic grids. I found dirt on the prefilter (foam) element, and fine dust on just about everything else. I found it on the plastic around and behind the electostatic grids and even on the clean air side of the fans. There was absolutly no dirt on the electrostatic element. So I called service and I was told to send it to them, which I did at my expense. After about three weeks I recieved a replacement unit, with no explaination of what the problem was. The new one works as poorly as the old one. All I bought was a very expensive fan. I would say, dont waste your money on this filter. Buy one with the replacement elements, At least you know they will do something!

Great value for the price / impressive performance     On: 2007-11-21

I have only had the product for a few hours and can already tell the difference! I read the other reviews this morning and was anxious to get this purifier immediately as there is quite a bit of dust in my house since I live in a desert area where we have Santa Ana wind storms. I found this product at Home Depot for around the same price and went right out and bought it the same day I saw it on Amazon. I must say that Amazon does a great job of providing information about all products and reading the reviews posted there prompted me to make this excellent investment. This product is well worth the price. The major selling points are the design features of the oscillating fan and permanent filter that you can clean. Great buy!
great air purifier     On: 2007-11-21

I slept better the first night we got this great air purifier. With radiant heat there is no air moving during the winter months. The oscillation feature is a big bonus. Feels like it is easier to breathe and is impressive at removing cooking odors that once lingered. Filters that can be cleaned and not replaced was also a big selling point.

This is second honeywell tower I have bought. First still serves me well but had to tape cover on after repeated cleanings that were frustrating in reassembly. Otherwise does good job of cleaning air.

I got this because my place tends to get extremely dusty (all wood floors) and to control pet dander. I have no complaints so far. The product is quiet and has worked well so far. I run it 24/7 on medium and have had it about a month and the pre filter on the back is covered in dust so it must be doing something.
Wow, better than I hoped     On: 2007-11-02

This machine removed the odors like magic. My bedroom is only 130 feet. I leave the door open and it cleans well beyond the room. It could clean my large areas no problem. I am surprised at what a good job it does.

Great air purifier     On: 2007-10-30

I have used air purifiers for years, but not with a permanent filter, tower design or occilating feature. The permanent filter really saves money not having to replace costly HEPA filters. The unit itself is very attractive and the occilating feature really improves performance.
Only been about a few weeks but boy it collects a lot of dust!     On: 2007-10-21

Its been only a few weeks now since Ive purchased this air purifier. Its the first air purifier I have ever bought, and boy I tell ya I am not disappointed one bit! I only use this thing on low and non oscillate and I turn it off when I am sleeping because I cant fall asleep with any noise but this thing still captures plenty of dust. It moves quite a lot of air even on low setting. This purifier cuts down on my dusting from 2 - 3 times a week to about once a week. I would recommend vacuuming the pre-filter every one to two weeks though because there is a lot of dust that collects there. My room is a little bigger than the specs recommend but this still works wonders. For this price I would totally recommend to people seeking a air purifier.
Good Machine     On: 2007-08-14

Ive had this machine almost eight months, I do find that I have to clean the filter a couple of times a month rather than once a month but that may be because I live in the city. Even so, this is a lot cheaper than replacing filters every two weeks and it is extraordinarily easy to clean the filter for this Honeywell purifier. It does seem to have helped with my daughters severe allergies, though not entirely alleviated her discomfort. However, given that my daughters allergies can incapacitate her or send her to the doctor, this is still an amazing change. A person with regular allergies might have an even better result.
This product is great     On: 2007-07-16

Too Good To Be True     On: 2007-05-11

Ok Im not sure if everyone else got the same "purifier" I got but this seemed to do anything but that! I first turned it on and was pleased with the air cooling effect but thats it. I left it on all night expecting to waken up a little refreshed and energized (according to the other reviews) but instead I woke up with a soar throat. Could be coincidental right? So after my throat cleared up I thought Id try it again. After about a week of having it on I realized there was no coincidence in myself getting more sick. Perhaps this thing works in large ventilated rooms (mine is not) Anyhow after doing some research, comes to find out this and many other "purifiers" release harmful ozone and the matter is being looked into. Youve been warned.

Not good on dust     On: 2007-05-01

I did a lot of homework before purchasing this product. I read glowing reviews on the this website, that convinced me to make the purchase. After having the air purifier for 2 months I can say with out a doubt, that it does a poor job filtering dirt and dust. My wife still has to dust on a regular basis, and our ceiling fan seems to gather more dust than this Purifier. The noise isnt too bad, and the air seems a little bit cleaner, but this purfier falls well short of my expectations.
Great product     On: 2007-04-23

The wind speeds are very good for a filter of this type, as a result, you dont need a separate fan. Minor drawback is the increased noise on the highest speeds.

I think it works because there is lots of dust particals on the machine and on the filter. It moves the air thru the machine and that can be a little cold in the winter time.I was hoping it would help with cooking smells and make the room smell fresh but it doesnt. It can also be a little loud.I think I just bought a very expensive room fan...
It works!     On: 2007-04-03

This purifier actually works. I noticed the difference of the air quality in my apartment within the first few hours of plugging it in. I was initially hesitant about spending so much money on it, but after cleaning it for the first time I noticed all the dirt and dust coming off the filters that would otherwise be on my furniture or in my lungs. (To clean, I shake out the foamy outer filter outdoors and run the IFD filters under the shower spray for a few minutes.) The manual says to clean the filters once a month (theres even a timer based on the hours it has been running), but you can actually tell when it needs it by looking at the back of the machine.
The oscillator is great, the fan is good (though I wouldnt count on it replacing a normal fan in the summertime even though its strong), and the white noise is also a bonus for all of you who like pleasant white noise while sleeping.

well made...BUT     On: 2007-03-26

the unit is well made, relatively quiet...BUT...we live near Yosemite where the air is fresh and clean. The issue for us is pollen and allergies. When I came in the house from the fresh air outside, there was a horrible smell from the machine. It was like ozone or some chemical smell. I guess from the ionizer. That night my wife had burning eyes and nausea. I have never been bothered by allergies but by morning, after running the unit all night in the bedroom, i had a bad, deep and raspy chest cough.

we feel we gave it a long enough run and test. And feel concerned about these issues.

My wife yet has her allergies, but they are vastly reduced after a rain, not so with the machine...it seems to do nothing in her allergy reduction.

So we will look to return the unit, and hope no damage to our heath has been done. My question is what exactly is the ionizer, is it something as in sharper image machines, with their negative reviews?

It really does seem to help with my dust problem. Ive had it approx 6 wks and Ive cleaned the filters twice. Easy to vacuum filters, not too noisy, especially on low setting. I have two cats, a rabbit and a carpet that seem to make dust constantly, so I am happy with any help I can get!
good filter so far     On: 2007-03-08

Great filter so far. Im not sure yet if I have less dust or not but I sleep well at night and have not had many stuffy noses in the morning.

Deserving a 5-star Rating     On: 2007-02-25

It comes with a big package and most of my colleagues have talked about the big package since I wanted to order it to work. My roomate says the air in his room improved too. My skeptical breathing has greatly improved to breathing in a lot of clean air worry-free. Thanks.
Good reviews made me purchase this     On: 2007-02-11

After reading the reviews, I purchased this and have been very happy since plugging it in. It is a little too loud for me, but the improvement in my breathing and significant reduction in dust make this well worth the investment. Several weeks after I purchased the first one, I purchased a second.
Its a great buy!     On: 2007-02-10

Its very sturdy and well constructed, it cleans and circulates the air through out my bedroom... The only thing Im slightly worried about is the strange smell... Maybe Im just used to breathing dirty moldy air

**Update**
Okay... The strange smell has disappeared after my first day of full use so maybe it has something to do with the purifier being brand new... I highly recommend this product because its very sturdy and the base feels weighted so theres no need to worry about it moving or falling over while it oscillates! I gave my 21 inch box fan to my friend Amanda because this device blows just as much air with hardly any noise at all, its very close to being silent... and the air feels and smells clean which really makes me happy... I mainly purchased this product because I hate vacuming... I really hate vacuming! Im really hoping this product rids my room of dust and cuts my vacuming down to once a week...

So remember... This machine is very quiet almost silent, It circulates just as much air as my 21 inch box fan, It has a weighted base which keeps it stable as it oscillates, it has washable filters that must be allowed to dry before you re-install them, It has a weird smell its first few hours of use, its energy efficent and has a 5 year warranty on the box...The tower is black and constructed of durable thick plastic and the base is silver... The unit is tall but has a small diameter so it ended up taking up very little area on my night stand near my bed...

You wont regret buying this product from Amazon

good air cleaner     On: 2007-01-31

I have other air cleaners with permanent filters and some with disposable filters. This cleans as good or better than any of them. I like the permanent filters because you can spend alot of money on replacing filters. Also this one is more quiet than any of the others.
Great buy! Seems to work for me     On: 2007-01-18

After researching air purifiers I realized I did not want an Ionic Breeze, so I tried this Honeywell model. I LOVE it. Of course, I really dont have any other air purifiers to compare it to, but I can say that I have severe dust mite allergies and this air purifier seems to help. I have been using it nonstop since I got it (about a month ago). We originally purchased this item for a room other than our bedroom. But Im not letting it go anywhere so now I have to buy a second unit! If you have allergies like me, you need one of these and a Roomba to make your life easier :)

Does the job !     On: 2007-01-06

i luv this unit i use it about 4-6 hours a day and keep in on when i sleep with a external timer; not to loud on the lowest setting; overall it would be better if it came with a internal timer, and remote either than that its cooL.
This product truly works!     On: 2006-11-10

I am ever the skeptic when it comes to products with so many different perspective from other reviewers but I had no choice but to purchase this. My wife has had a constant nasal drip/allergy problem for the last 5 years which she is unwilling to see a doctor for. It has kept her and I up many a night and she goes to bed feeling miserable most nights. Oddly enough this only happens in our bedroom (where our two cats hang out all day and night). We plugged this in last night and although it had a distinct odor (not unpleasant but distinct), we both woke up this morning and she and I could breathe comfortably. This has not happened for her in years. Yes there is a noise that comes from the fan on this but it is no louder than a room fan, which I used to have on most nights anyways. The noise from the fan portion of this was not a problem for us, even on the highest setting. Essentially this looks and works like a room fan with a built in air purifier (it oscillates too). I highly recommend this.

Honeywell #120 air purifier     On: 2006-11-07

It is a very good machine that works well in a bedroom. The tower takes up little room. It even can oscillate if you want that. It is very quiet and reasonably priced. The only drawback I find is that you have no option to shut off the ionization part of the machine. An excellent choice for my allergic conditions.

Good price and quality product     On: 2006-11-05

Im using it for the babys room. Thus far, it has performed very well. I especially like the fact that the filters dont need to be repurchased. Approximately a month or so of usage, I simply take the filters out and clean them. This product offers good quality for a very attractive price.

I got this with a bit of skepticism but having used the product for a number of months now, I can say that it has removed its fair share of air borne particles. While this is not something you should get if you want really complete filtering, it is perfect for those who want measurable improvement in the air. Its washable filters are just one of many convenient features that would make it a hard deal to pass up.
Great filter for the price     On: 2006-10-10

This filter does a great job for the money. I can definitely feel a difference, and the air in my house smells nice and feels clean. If youre having doubts about spending money on a filter, this is a good one to go for!

So far I am very pleased!!!     On: 2006-08-23

Had this on my Amazon wish list, but then came across it for the same price at a Target store and bought it (sorry Amazon). And I really am pleased so far. My toddler has allergies and his allergist had recommended an air purifier for his room. We did lots of research in looking for the right one that was still affordable. I really like that this one has washable filters. Lots of $$$ savings there. Since getting this, my son has had fewer runny noses and no severe allergy symptons. Weve even been able to drop two of his three allergy meds - - not sure yet though if this is due to the seasons, or perhaps we were possibly over-medicating him before, or if this thing really does work that kind of miracle. Either way, fewer snotty noses makes me happy. In regard to the concerns over noise, this one is fairly quiet. I keep it on low pretty much all the time and it is hardly noticeable. My son has no problem sleeping with it running in the same room. The oscillating feature is nice and it has a small nightlight on it that comes in handy. I would definitely recommend the Honeywell HFD 120.

Pays for itself in filters     On: 2006-06-09

Confusion in HEPA home filters is starting to rise--I was at a local home improvement shop and they had a whole selection of machines--From True HEPA to "Hepa Type" and this one is supposedly better then "Hepa Type" but not as good as True Hepa. So for those who are allergic to everything, you may be better off with what Honeywell calls a "True Hepa."

For me at least, Im doing well with this model, and Im relieved that I no longer have to buy 70 dollar filters for my old Honeywell machine.
So far, so good -- and the oscillating is the best!     On: 2006-04-13

I decided to get this air cleaner after trying the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze and a larger Honeywell HEPA filter. At the time of purchase, the Sharper Image was the only one with a permanent filter. This was a big plus for me seeing as the older HEPA cleaners have 2 filters to replace, the larger one being nearly the price of the machine. This Honeywell tower has a permanent filter.

There are many claims for and against the Ionic Breeze. Im still undecided on how effective it is -- but I feel almost the same way about my large HEPA filter. I found myself running both of them to control my allergies. Although I cleaned them regularly and found dust on both, I cant say the air was particularly different. However, shortly after turning this on in the bedroom for the first time, I could smell a difference. I havent had it long enough to say its made a real dent in my allergies -- plus the fact that my allergies are intermittant -- but Im pleased that I even notice it.

One thing to note -- the Amazon description says there is an independently controlled Ionizer. I assumed that meant I could control it independently of the HEPA Unit. If thats the case, I have yet to see how. Its not mentioned anywhere in the tiny booklet and there are no buttons for it. For that reason, I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. I did want to control the ionizer separately because I wanted to be able shut that off entirely. There are camps on both sides arguing for an against ionizers, and some claim they make breathing worse -- so being able to compare with and without it was something I wanted to try. If anyone else knows how to do it, then post it here. :)

Compared to the larger Honeywell that I own, this one is much more quiet on each of its three settings. When I first read the description I didnt pay attention to the oscillating function. Now, its my favorite part of this cleaner. The oscillator is the thing that is independent of the cleaner -- and when its on, the machine rotates in place, back and forth, blowing the air in an arc. I like this feature a lot and I think helps with cleaning a larger area. Maybe the ionizer is attached to this feature?

This unit is significantly heavier than the similar looking Ionic Breeze. Also, the manual states it should be placed 3 feet from any wall or furniture. The cord is not that long, and placing the cord behind some furniture to get to an outlet has made it nearly impossible for me to reach a spot a full 3 feet away.

Anyway, so far I am pleased and would recommend this unit to some one who is looking for a compromise between those two types of cleaners.

Great Product, but a Little Noisy     On: 2006-02-17

I bought this particular purifier after my daughter was diagnosed with an allergy to cat dander. The purifier works great in a large room and really lets out the clean air forcefully. I also love the fact that it has a permanent filter, which can easily be cleaned. The only complaint that I have is that its a little loud, even running on low. Other than that, I think this is a great product.
