Quiet!!! Works great...     On: 2008-11-03

After reading reviews about how loud some other units were, I decided to try these. I ended up getting two of them, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. The low setting (which we use in the bedroom) is practically silent and you forget that it is running. The medium setting is a little bit louder, but you still forget it is on unless you are paying attention to it. The high setting is much louder, but still acceptable. I did notice a huge difference in my allergies within a day or two and havent reverted back to my crazy allergies since he filters arrived.
Good for allergies     On: 2008-10-28

As other have said, the first day you run it, you will get a wierd smell, be prepared. But after that its great. During the time I am not in the room I run it on high, when I sleep I run it on low.
I have 2 dogs, and all of us have allergies, and this has helped.
Works great 4.5 stars     On: 2008-09-07

Weve had this unit plugged in for just under a month and the difference in my girlfriends cat allergies is amazing. We crank it up to medium or high when we come home for the evening, but leave it on low overnight and while were at work. The only draw back is that its quite large. Luckily it works well even without the recommended 360 degree clearance. It doesnt do much for odors, but thats not what we wanted it for. All-in-all, a great buy.
Excellent and as quiet as advertised!     On: 2008-08-19

I have a small room with a dog, a rat in a cage, and three ferrets, so we definitely need an air purifier to "purify" the air in here! I got this version to replace an older, outdated version I had when I needed a new filter and couldnt find out because it had been discontinued. I have to say, it does look nicer and it is quieter, but I found that the older version kept the pet smell out of my room more. Still, I am very happy with this product! When it is set to low, you can hardly hear it at all!
Why does this air purifier smell like wet dog?     On: 2008-07-31

I got this because of the overwhelming positive feedback it inspired. Shipping time was light-speed fast and the unit worked mostly ok but, like other reviewers, I HATE the instruction booklet.

OK, the unit comes already put together but you need to put the pre-filter in before you start the unit up. This is actually a very easy thing to do but it becomes very confusing very fast when you try to follow the crappy instructions in the booklet. You dont need to take the top off (contrary to instructions). You actually need to put the black velcro-looking strip along the inside of the bottom of the unit, (This will become clear once you are looking at the thing.)

The other problem is that after a couple of weeks, we all started noticing a wet-dog smell in the air. Not horribly offensive, but not aromatic either. We had just had the house professionally cleaned so I knew that all potential stinkies had been taken care of. On a sniff n search, I discovered that the Honeywell was the culprit - stinking up my clean house! I took the thing apart, looking for the problem. Found nothing, it was completely clean. The filter itself did not smell but the air being expelled was awful. I found that if I turned it down to the lowest setting, it went away (or became unnoticeable) but after a couple of hours of medium or high, the phantom smell returns.

Any ideas??

Other than that, this is a pretty good unit and not loud at all. On high you notice it more but my kids successfully cover it with yelling, screaming, laughing, arguing etc.

As for cleaning the air, I do notice cooking smells leave the downstairs area faster and our asthmatic sleeps easier at night. So I still recommend it but if I were to buy another one, I might try a different model.

Smoke Buster     On: 2008-07-31

Large local forest fires prompted this purchase. It has been a life saver. Running 24/7 with the air conditioner in the house has kept the living room area free of all smoke smell. Even my 84 year old mother did not have to leave. We ran it on medium speed most of the time and could hardly hear it.
Really reduces Pet Allergies!!!     On: 2008-07-09

My boyfriend is allergic to cats, and he swears by this HEPA air filter. From my point of view, too, I really saw that his allergies were significantly reduced after we started running this at my place. My apartment is small... I dont know how much area this covers... But it definitely works in reducing pet allergies.

I tried several different spays/gels.... none worked. After using this HEPA air filter - combined with the Fur-minator brush (which is AMAZING) - my boyfriends allergic reactions at my place were significantly reduced.

Not too shabby!     On: 2008-07-09

I like this air purifier, although Ive never bought one before. Shipping was pretty slow, and the delivery guy didnt even knock, he just left it in the rain, but it didnt seem much worse for the wear. Ive had it for about a month now, and I keep it on 24/7, usually on high (I cant hear it over my AC, anyway), but Ive tried all 3 settings. Heres what I think:

Pros:
Yes, it is QUIET, the high setting is maybe 40-50dB, like the humming of an old fridge.
It works great on SMOKE and SMELLS - I smoke "herbal" cigarettes in my 300sqft apartment and they smell a lot! Not only does this suck the smoke out of the air (pretty cool!), but it really helps with the smell that usually lingers for hours after smoking.
It works on PET DANDER - yah! my apartment no longer smells like an 80 lb greyhound who rolled in god-knows-what!

Cons:
DUST? One of the other reviewers said that this helped reduce the amount of dust in their apartment, and I was so excited, because my apartment gets ridiculously dusty every 3 days or so. So I set up the purifier, let it run for a day, then I dusted, and waited. No dice, I had serious dust again in like 3.5 days, too bad :(
Although you just vacuum the HEPA filter, YOU STILL HAVE TO BUY A REPLACEMENT PRE-FILTER.

Great choice of a permante filter for Mexico City     On: 2008-07-06

The power consumption is not too bad.. I measured it this morning and its like 90W / 55W / 45 W

The lowest mode is really silent and works like white noise which is great.

I didnt believe much that the air would feel fresher but it does... in a couple of hours all seems much colder and breathable

Love the fact that the HEPA filter is permant

Price is more than great for its characteristics

Size is huge...really, take that into consideration because its not very discreet in the room

Only thing that is ridiculous is that Honeywell insists the filter should operate 24h .... this might be a good idea for your room but not for the environment, especially if you are not in your house for hours during the day.

Highly recommendable
Reliable and effective!!!     On: 2008-06-28

Our second Honeywell air purifier in three years.....so far so good. No matter the sound level, even at the lowers setting, your brain accomodates and its not a bother anymore. Prefilter does freshen the air due to the carbon embedded within. Will probably buy another in a year or two of if a great sale comes along!
Quieter than others...     On: 2008-06-26

I have allergies/asthma and own both the Honeywell 18155 (in living room) and the 17000N (in home office). The Honeywell 18155 is MUCH quieter. Its even quieter on "high" than the smaller 1700N is on "low" -- both work very well.
Good Air filter     On: 2008-06-16

I must warn that this guy is bigger that it looks in the picture, so I would check the size specs. However, it is quiet on the low and medium speeds and really, in my opinion, is not to loud on high. I am happy with this purchase.
Loud on High     On: 2008-06-07

It seems to work well, but is too loud when set on high. I think the name of the unit is misleading. It also takes up a lot of room.
Great Air Purifier     On: 2008-05-14

I love this air purifier. I bought this because it had a permanent filter. Im not so sure the filter traps as much particles as a conventional paper filter. This air purifier uses a filter that is similar to a high performance car filter like K & N performance car air filter. It is basically a lifetime filter with an oil coating on it. It allows more air to pass through and relies on the oil coating on the filter to help trap particles. I know for a fact that the high performance car air filters do not trap as many foreign particles as the stock paper air filters, so this leads me to believe that the same would be true in home air purifiers.

I didnt realize this until after I purchased this product but Im still happy with it. I didnt want to spend the time or money constantly buying new filters for this air purifier.

On the low setting it is very quiet but the units fan draws in very little air and as a result purifies little air. My pre-filter had no dust on it at all after I left the unit on this setting continuously for a few days.

The unit is most effective on the high setting, there was a lot of dust on the pre-filter after only half a day. I just use a lint brush every 1-2 days to clean the pre-filter. You should know that the unit is very loud on the high setting and should only be used on this setting when youre not home. Its impossible to sleep with the unit on high.

Id advise you to use the medium setting when youre at home. The unit is even quiet enough on this setting to sleep.

Quietly controls odors and allergens.     On: 2008-05-13

Two cats and two smokers produce odors which are pretty awful. When combined, they become a force to be reckoned with.

After trying the ionizer route and finding they make the air sort of perky but still full of odors, I went with a HEPA filter that used a carbon pre-filter to help control both allergens and odors. The Silent Comfort works, but the label is a bit misleading as the unit isnt silent nor a recliner. Anyhow, the breakdown:

+ When the cats do their business, I dont know even if the unit is on low.
+ Air circulation improved which in turn reduced heating/cooling efforts.
+ Cigarette smoke visibly gets sucked into the unit, odor is gone within an hour on all settings.
+ Very easy to setup out of the box though Honeywell could splurge a bit on a maintenance guide.
+ Extremely quiet, though still audible, on low.
+ Quite and audible on medium.

- I suspect that the machine is going to nag me to clean the filters despite the claim for "normal" use which no doubt expects laboratory style clean-rooms are a good template.
- On high the unit is loud, not so loud you cant endure it but you can hear it from about 50 away with the door closed.

Conclusion: The negatives arent a big deal, nor the slightly mischaracterized notion of "silent" and "comfort", so its an easy 5/5.
Nice Air Purifier     On: 2008-05-04

I bought the Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort. It truly is quite on low but its big. I managed to fit that in the tiny babys room. It works great. I can hardly hear it in the baby monitor. I do recommend this one if you can spare the room. Larger fans are naturally more quit anyway. Im actually logged in to buy another one for my living room.
Quiet, almost too quiet     On: 2008-04-28

I never appreciated this product as much as I did until I just went to change the pre-filter. After 6 months of almost constant use it had a thick buildup of dust all around it.

After purchasing this product I did notice the air in my apartment just seemed fresher, it did not seem as stuffy and cooking odors did not linger as long.

When I first purchased this Honeywell I turned it on the low setting and could barely hear it, which worried me because part of the reason I bought it was for white noise at night. On the high setting it is loud enough to provide enough white noise.

In the six months of owning it has been very dependable and easy to use. I highly recommend it.
Great product - worth every penny     On: 2008-04-11

This air purifier is the best. Super quiet and works great
strongly recommended.
Breathe Easier     On: 2008-04-09

Why I didnt buy this air cleaner sooner is beyond me. Being an allergy sufferer for my entire life, this unit has made a huge difference. The air quality has greatly improved in my home with very acceptable noise level.
Quietest True Hepa     On: 2008-03-08

Pros: Extremely quiet on low.
Loud on high (you know its changing air faster when you want it)
Not hard on the eyes.
360 intake/outake(?)
Its a Honeywell.
Cheap
Permanent HEPA Filters. (clean with a vacuum)

Cons: BIG. Not tall, but wide.

I have done extension research on True HEPA, HEPA Type, LFD, and 3M air purifiers - true hepa being the best, 3M being the worst.

This purifier is the quietest True Hepa purifier I have tested. It is much quieter than the claimed Kenmore "Americas Quietest True Hepa Filter," and also much quieter than Honeywells QuietCare models. I hear some people complaint about how loud the highest speed is. This is not a sensible remark. You WANT the highest speed to be as loud as possible. The louder it is, the more air it is circulating. The question is how silent can it be, when youre sleeping? This thing is so silent, if you put it on the other side of the room from your bed chances are you wont hear it at all. It has half the dBm of the QuiteCare and the Kenmore.

Honeywells designs and filters are incredible. Youll feel a difference after a day. I have terrible seasonal allergies, as well as allergies to my cat.
satisfied     On: 2008-03-05

I purchased 2 of these air purifiers and I am very satisfied with them. If you have it set on low it is very very quiet, medium is a low hum and on high its a constant humming noise but it is still managable. The one in my bedroom is set on low and the one in the tv room is set on medium or high since thats where the pets are the most. this is definately the quietest air purifier i have had.
Breath of Fresh Air     On: 2008-02-17

We purchased this air purifier upon the recommendation of our son.
We could not be more pleased with its performance. The air is so clean and pure. You can definitely tell the difference when you walk into the room.
If there is a down side to this purifier though, it would be that it is a little noisy when you run it on high. We keep it on either medium or low and receive pleasant results.
Piece of Junk     On: 2008-02-02

I had this on medium for 30 days and it began to howl. Now it howls all the time and it is too loud to run it. For an expensive air cleaner it is cheaply constructed. The inner components are made out of styrofoam the type you see on a disposable beach cooler. Now I have to pay shipping both ways to the manufacturer to have it fixed. Stay away from this air cleaner.
Nice purifier     On: 2008-01-09

Alot quieter than others, and works well. I run it all the time and it does cut down on the amout of dust in the room. About every 3 months the prefilter needs to be changed, they are kinda messy but pretty easy to do.
The hepa filter just needs to be vacumed so that really saves on money. The only problem is that its remommended that you put it out in the middle of the room so it can pull air in from all sides, so you cant really put it up against a wall. I do have it kinda close to a wall but it seems to still work fine. Overall Im very happy with this purchase and would recommend it.
As Advertized     On: 2008-01-07

Unit functions as advertized! It is round and bulky though. However, the air flow through the unit is good, and the studio room I am using it in smells clean and fresh! I would highly recommend this air purifier.
As advertised...     On: 2007-12-30

Silent on low, quiet on medium; high sounds like any household fan. You do not hear a mechanical sound, only air moving. Seems to works well but all of my rooms are bigger than the recommended 250 ft2. I am considering buying a second larger unit or an ionic air cleaner for limited time use. Definately less dust, but hard to tell how effective because I also swithed to a better furnace air filters. basically a good unit, easy to move from room and as quiet as you need it.
Not Effective     On: 2007-12-29

Hello All,
I purchased this HEPA air filter because I have bad allergies and live in the desert. I am not sure if it has done anything at all, other than increase my energy bill. I would not buy this product. Go to consumer reports and buy the one that they suggest.
It works good but loud     On: 2007-12-28

I bought this air purifier since I have a cat. I do feel the air quality is better, which is very good. But I dont think it is silent enought to be forgetten.

The Honeywell 1855N air purifier is a wonderful product that I would recommend to others.
Very good for the price     On: 2007-12-18

Works great, very quiet at low speeds. Removes odors and seems to keep the air clean. Good value.
Fine Product at a good price.     On: 2007-12-14

The Honeywell 18155 is a well designed product. The case is well fitted, the unit has a carrying handle on top, a good feature. The three speed fan unit is very quiet compared to other units this size. The noise level for each of the speeds (slow, medium and high) is quite acceptable. I use slow or medium at night and high during daytime. There are two filters, the Hepa one that never needs replacement but should be vacuumed when the units indicator light comes on, or sooner. There is a carbon pre-filter that should be replaced every three months. An indicator light is provided for that filter also. The unit is rated for cleaning the air in a room as large as 255 square feet. The unit comes with a five year limited warranty.
Seems to work great     On: 2007-11-29

Been plugging away for two weeks now, has really made a difference in cutting down the dust. Loses one star since the status light bleeds down into the change-filter light enough to make it unclear if the filter light is on or not.

Better than expected     On: 2007-11-15

We bought this for our "smoking" room and it does work on smoke if used on the High setting which is louder than I thought it would be. I like the permanent filter and the charcoal filters are cheap to replace. You do need clearance around it so check the dimensions.
Great product!!!     On: 2007-11-05

After recieving this product, ease of setup is extremely good. We have 2 cats, a dog, and 2 birds in our apartment. I have allergies. The air quality has improved in a MAJOR way. I havent had nearlly the congestion and irritation from airborne allergens since plugging this thing in. Very happy with the purchase!!! My only complaint is the fact that the coverage area is not wide enough. After having said that, for the price... Im still happy and it has made a dramatic improvment. Shipping was fast.

HEPA filter     On: 2007-10-31

We bought this product last month and have been using it mainly in the master bedroom which also has a master bath attached. Although we have not used it 24/7 as suggested in the users manual, the air in our room smells a lot cleaner and we have been getting fewer sinus headaches and are breathing easier in the mornings. The mechanism is relatively quiet compared to an older model that we had. For smaller rooms in the house, I may consider getting a smaller sized model as this one does take up space.
Honeywell Silent Comfort Air Purifier     On: 2007-10-30

The Honeywell Air Purifier is a great tool and very quiet. I like that it is portable, lightweight and effective. This was a good value. Delivery was on time and the product intact. The overall experience has been excellent.
Good Air Cleaner     On: 2007-09-30

Nice and Quiet.
The only negatives are the instructions which do not seem to match the machine.
the diagrams (on Amazon too) show a large prefilter wrapped around the main filter.
In fact that is not how it is set up. The small prefilter goes on the bottom of the machine. The main filter is in the top and they are accessed via different "hatches".
The directions also show cleaning the outside of the HEPA filter. the reality is that the way the machine works you would need to clean the INSIDE surface of the HEPA.
Otherwise works fine. My Asthma is much better.

Quiet and effective     On: 2007-09-24

My allergist recommended that I purchase a HEPA air purifier to help with my severe dust mite allergy. I got a Honeywell 18155N SilentComfort Permanent, True HEPA Air Purifier. I picked this one, because it is recommended for my sized bedroom. Its rather large, and I dont keep it the recommended 3 feet away from the walls, or else it would be in the middle of my walking space. Even on maximum setting, it is pretty quiet, and actually makes a nice "white noise" which I find almost pleasant as Im falling asleep. Ive found that Im less congested. I would recommend this product.
happy customer     On: 2007-08-08

so my roommate thinks its a little loud when its on high, but I dont find it that noisy. Its still not as noisy as our dishwasher. It cleans the air remarkably well. I was having serious problems breathing before, and wouldnt be able to sleep since I would be coughing all night. With this, now even my roommate thinks the air smells cleaner.
excellent for the money!     On: 2007-06-13

just moved into a new apt with roommate who has a cat....this item has been a lifesaver! though my allergies are usually mild, im not used to cat dander, so i was sneezing and sniffling a good bit before this came in the mail. once it did, i plugged it in and within an hour i could tell the air was cleaner than it was before. honeywell usually makes really reliable products, and i know this one will be no different. it is VERY quiet on the lowest setting, you can barely hear it; the higher settings provide some nice white noise, if you are looking for something to do that. only thing is, the prefilter needs changed about every 3 months...im going to test it out to see if that is really true or if it can go longer...but not having to buy a new HEPA is great!
good luck!
My Experience     On: 2007-06-09

I returned this item. There is no barrier between the part of the machine which pulls in air and the part which pushes it out again. I believe it picks up dust, and then just blows it out again without ever going through the filter. If you put a ribbon above it there is no air movement at all. So I dont believe that it is changing the air in the room. Also, it blew carbon, from the filter into the air, which got in my eye. I do not recommend this product.
Faulty Product     On: 2007-06-09

Had the product for less than 30 days and the motor burned out. I had to pay ~$25 to ship it back to the manufacturer and they also tried to charge a warranty fee. I am less then happy with my purchase so far.
Good for the money.     On: 2007-06-02

This unit is quiet when running on the low setting; high is rather loud. Even though its not a high-end model it does the job its supposed to. When I removed the pre-filter there was more hair on it than on my cat and lots of dust. I recently had a very smokey kitchen from a pan fire and it helped with clearing the room. I like this unit a lot. Its low-tech and very portable. I just wonder if the plastic unit gives off gas but its too late to worry about that now because I already own it.

air purifier     On: 2007-05-27

When I first saw this, it sounded great. The only good thing I will say is that is was quiet on the low setting. You cant clean the permanant filter unless you blow it out. The carbon prefilter is small and must be cleaned constantly and does not do much for oder removal. On the site, it showed a charcoal prefilter that wraps around the Heppa cartridge. That is not the case. The prefilter is a strip that goes inside the bottom of the unit where the air comes in. The air then flows from the inside out in the heppa cartridge. Very poor design. Also the manuel that comes with the unit says nothing about cleaning the main filter. It did give some better breathing conditions, but not enough. I have just returned it. I have come to the conclusion this is just hyped up idea to sell the unit. Contacted the manufacturer and customer service is poor with any answers. A bad sign. Like many of these cheaper units, you end up paying more to replace cartridges in the long term. That would be the case with this one. Also, no indicator light came on for the dirty prefilter. I am looking into an Austin. They are more money, but with an excellent filter that is pro-rated for 5 years in normal conditions, with much better construction and a great reputation. I do not recommend you waste your money on this unit!
Very satisfied     On: 2007-05-17

This air purifier works very good. Its been one month I have been using. It is lighter than I had thought so I was able to move it to other rooms easily, you can grap on the top. And very quiet which I am very pleased by. I keep it turned on for several hours in the afternoon, and at night.

Major noticeble changes:
1. I dont see dust layers on the top of my book shelves or side tables for a couple of weeks.
2. My 18 month old daughter breathe much comfortably, and dont wake up at night by breath problem.

But, I feel that this Honeywell 18155N is not so good at eliminating odors.

It works!     On: 2007-05-17

This is a great air purifier, it works great, it is quiet and it doesnt emit a cool breeze like it says. It really helps me a lot and I am a long time sinus and allergy sufferer. you can really feel the difference in the air when you go outside or to another location. I dont think it is large and bulky its made to work in up to 225 square feet! I use it in a tiny studio apartment and I still have space. Its easy to set up and best of all..it works!
Definetly reccomend this Air Purifer.
Honeywell Air Purifier     On: 2007-05-17

This purifier is quiet. It takes quite a while to remove odors from a room and needs to run 24/7. I bought this purifier because of the permanent Hepa Filter. Only used for 2 weeks so far and there isnt much else to report.
AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! clean air     On: 2007-05-12

less than expected     On: 2007-05-08

Im not sure why this product received so many 5 star reviews. I was sold on this product after reading customer reviews but my experience has been less than expected. I needed an air purifier to reduce tobacco odor in my bedroom but its not doing its job. I only smoke a couple of cigarettes a day. My friend has one that almost eliminates tabacco odor but its an ionized air purifier which many reviewers on this web site discouraged me from buying. This product seems to reduce air particles but again you wont be satisfied if you expect to get rid of more than 50-60% of odor/dirt. There was a debate amongst many reviewers about its noise level. My vote is that it should not be called "Silent Comfort". Its definitely misleading. Its not too bad if you can have a little fresher air for $130 but you can probably get much more had you invested a little more.

Good but large     On: 2007-05-07

So far weve been pleased with this purifier. Its our first air purifier purchase so we dont have a lot to compare it to. We did read Consumer Reports and wanted to avoid an ionizer, which this product does not have. The machine is fairly quite or at least basic white nose. I have noticed that I sleep better with it in the bedroom and my sinuses are clear when I wake up so it has improved my allergies a bit. Id say the only downside to this product is its size. Its large and bulky, but the specs are listed on the product and I just didnt pay attention to it when I bought it.

Overall, were happy with it though.
Perfect for people with allergies     On: 2007-05-06

I bought this air purifier because my infant was showing signs of allergies - sneezing, rubbing her eyes, etc. Within an hour of turning on this filter, everyone in the household stopped having sneezing fits and our baby doesnt have red, itchy eyes anymore. Im amazed by how well it works. The unit is really quiet.

The only thing I dont like about it is the size. Its huge! At a foot and a half wide it takes up a lot of space. You cant easily hide this thing next to the sofa. Im still trying to figure out where to put it so that it isnt in the way but can still filter the air. Very satified with this product overall.
Honeywell 18155N SilentComfort airfilter, thumbs-up.     On: 2007-04-11

very quiet for sure. its helping a lot with my allergies. i run it 24/7 on low and that does the trick. the only disadvantage is the suggested placement, 3 from any wall. however ive got it maybe 1-2 feet from any wall and its able to suck air from all directions.

The air purifier arrived in a timely fashion. So far so good.

Great product. You can really feel (and breathe) the difference in the air when you turn this on in a closed room, although I use it with the door open, too. For allergies and asthma, with its HEPA filter system (doctors Ive spoken to recommend HEPA as the best filtration system for these problems), it has made a big difference for me. I had an older model that made a louder, harsher noise. Even on high, the sound from this model is still balanced enough so that it does, as others have commented, create a pleasant white noise effect. Note that it is fairly large and heavy, so moving it around from room to room is not impossible but a bit of a hassle. I havent yet had to clean/replace the filters, since its still new. But I like that there is a filter indicator on the unit so I dont have to remember when to do it.

FANTASTIC and VERY QUIET...     On: 2007-02-12

"HONEYWELL: 18155 SilentComfort Air Purifier"

First off, Id like to say that this is the only air purifier Ive ever owned so I cannot compare it fairly to others so I wont even try. But Ive read dozens of reviews about the Honeywell QuietCare 17000 and noticed the main complaint is that its not really queit at all. Well...I hope this helps.

As far as the noise level goes this SilentComfort 18155 is very quiet on MED and LOW. On HIGH, right next to it, its about as loud as our dishwasher about 30 feet away. So its not bad at all. I can still hear the television and have normal conversations with the family without yelling.

Ive done some of my own studies to see how well the dust is being pulled into the machine and can see there is dust building up in the pre-filter over time. It seems to work very well. Ive also noticed a difference on how fresh the air smells. My sneezing is almost down to zero, when its running, and that tells me its really working.

It does NOT have an IONIZER which IS A GOOD THING in my opinion. Ive learned that these ionizers omit ozone. Which inside the home this ozone builds up and can be very harmful to the lungs. I did NOT like the sound of that so I turned away from the "ionizer" models.

It is very sturdy, a little bulky, but not too heavy to put in other rooms from time to time when I feel the need to relocate it. It blows cold air, not like a fan and not too direct, at a 360 degree radius(it also pulls from every direction). The cold air will be nice in the summer but its not so nice right now in the winter. I like to put it next to the bed and it can get a little chilly when my covers come off. It has a very comforting and relaxing white noise hum to it. The motor runs very soft and consistant. No rattling or buzzing of any kind. It seems very well built.

MY ONLY CONCERN is that the return/exhaust does NOT blow straight up. It blows outword on the top/sides and it pulls from the bottom. This may be a brilliant design or a serious flaw? I question...is it just filtering the same air over and over again or is it like a vortex that pulls the dust into it with the pushing air(kind of like a tornado)? In my studies I found that was a tough call for me to make. But it really does help with my allergies so I must conclude that its working properly.

I ordered it directly from Amazon and it arrived in 4 days(that includes the weekend) and that was with the FREE SUPERSAVER SHIPPING. Amazon is always fantastic about that, so no complaints there.

OVERALL... I am very pleased, though it may be a little early to give a longevity review right now, the HoneyWell SilentComfort 18155 really seems to work great and I have no complaints. If anything faulty or negative develops I will amend it into this review accordingly.

2 THUMBS UP...and I breathe much easier now.
