Good but not clear about safety of ionizer     On: 2010-08-30

The filter seems to do a good job. It is not nearly as quiet as some reviewers mention, the sound is quite audible at night, but not irritatingly so.

The ionizer switch lights up just as much as the built-in "night light." Ionizers are known to create ozone (see Consumer Reports.) The manual says not to use the ionizer if you suffer from asthma. Put all these together and it sounds like the ionizer is not completely safe. I recommend not using the ionizer when the room is occupied, or only for short periods of time. If it has been on for an extended period of time, let fresh air into the room before spending some time in the room.
Not so much!     On: 2010-08-28

Looks cute. Loud. and my place needs cleaning... nothing in the filter after 2 weeks of running. Blah!
Compact Air Cleaner     On: 2010-08-28

This small air cleaner is best for very small areas. It sits atop my cats litter box located in the bathroom and does an adequate job of controlling litter box odors between changes. It can also be mounted on a wall if you dont have a place for it to sit. Replacement filters are relatively expensive at $42.00. Its fairly quiet on low and has strong airflow. I think its a too noisy and too small for the average bedroom. Permanent filter doesnt really mean permanent however. Permanent filters do become clogged over time and simply must be replaced. Its a decent little unit for very small areas.......recommended!!!!
good purifier     On: 2010-08-20

this thing is pretty quiet, on high setting it just kinda fades into the background and it does its job. awesome deal for the price.
too noisy and not very effective, so far     On: 2010-08-19

I was going to wait awhile and review after Id used the product a little longer, but based on my initial impression, Im pretty disappointed with it. The unit looks fine and seems reasonably sturdy, but its quite noisy, even at the lowest setting, and the fan emits a shrill whirring sound that does not seem like white noise to me. Its impossible to ignore it. It sounds like an airplane. Maybe the problem for me is it seems to be generating sound at a different frequency from the lower level hum of the air conditioner and computer in the room ( so the various fan noises are not harmonically in sync". ) It has a much higher pitch than my last air purifier, which I loved, but was discontinued. I still have that one, but can no longer find filters for it, so I only use it for white noise and as a fan. Worse yet, after using the Honeywell for a few hours (without the ionizer turned on and the door closed), the room actually started to smell terrible. I dont know if this equipment requires a break in period to air out the harsh (chemical/smoke) smell of the filter, but it was a very unpleasant and irritating -- hardly what one wants in an air "purifier"! As for the noise -- on high it is much too loud - on low, I had to turn it off so I could watch tv and then get some sleep. My trusty old (Amcor HEPA tower) filter provided a steady unobtrusive low-pitched hum, a cool breeze, and genuine HEPA filtration and ionizer that made the air feel "good." This unit blows air out of the top, so if you want it to act like a fan with air aimed horizontally , you have to flip it on its side (which , on a positive note, also takes up a bit less room on the end table). Even in that position, though, with the output aimed strategically, it doesnt seem to be circulating much air, especially given the intensity of the fan. Im willing to give it a try, so will leave it running while away from home today and will see if things improve noticeably. The room air was definitely worse with it on than with it off last night, and while this morning the chemical emissions were less noticeable, the air quality in the room had not improved noticeably. No dust seems to have been collected while the unit was on. I dont know if this is the way they ALL are, if this will improve after a break in period, or if this particular unit has a problem, but at this point I cant recommend it and probably will not keep it. To be fair, Ill give it a few days and report back and revise my review if the situation improves.
Really Improves Air Quality     On: 2010-08-16

Very useful and silent-working air purifier..Honeywell cant go wrong with their quality. This is the second one I have and both have been useful in improving home air quality to a large extent. The difference is felt and therefore recommended. Not difficult to maintain either.
I've had it for 3 months now...     On: 2010-08-15

in my bedroom and its still working great. Ill be ordering another for the kids bedroom.
One broke, two don't work     On: 2010-08-11

I got three of these. One broke, and the other two are barely working. I dont see any dust collecting on the filters. Ive tried moving them to different locations and tried different settings. Still, no sign of life. I guess you get what you pay for. I would recommend a larger device.
Great Product and want another one!!     On: 2010-08-07

This product is great and I am getting another one!!!! Sucks up a lot of dirty air in the house and you dont have to keep buying the inner parts to this because all you have to do is wash it!! Great Product!!! Thanks!!
Bird Dander     On: 2010-08-07

Just ordered this product to see if it will help control bird dander. I have two parrots and the dander dust in the room is unbelievable. Will write another review once I see how this works !
Works amazingly well.     On: 2010-08-06

I have a room that gets little circulation and has that stale smell. I hooked this air filter up. 3 days later viola, no stale smell. Works amazing, quiet on the low setting and the filters are washable. Has a 3 year warranty to boot.
GREAT LITTLE FILTER     On: 2010-08-04

THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE FILTER FOR A SMALL ROOM. ITS QUIET,WITH 3 FAN SPEEDS, COMPACT, SITS FLAT OR UPRIGHT, AND HAS A PERMANENT FILTER WHICH IS EASY TO CLEAN. AND AT THIS PRICE IS A REAL BARGAIN. I WILL BUY THIS AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ROOM.
Quiet, compact air purifier     On: 2010-07-30

Great little purifier. I leave it on just about 24/7. Its small-ish, fits on a desk, and is moderately quiet. Recommended.
not a Hepa filter, a Hepa TYPE filter, but otherwise a nice little unit     On: 2010-07-30

I bought this for my husband who had wanted one for his small office. We have 2 large Honeywell filters in our house which we like, and this small desktop unit looked perfect. The first thing I noticed was that the box says "HEPA type filter" while the Amazon product page says "HEPA". Theres a difference! This is not Honeywells fault as Amazon is the one who has mislabeled the page; if you saw this in the store, youd know it wasnt a HEPA filter. So that was disappointing.

However, the purifier itself works just fine. The plastic is a little cheap, already getting that beige-pink discoloration of cheap plastic despite only having the unit for a month, but the purifier has filtered the air and kept it smelling nice. The room is 10 x 10 and we keep the filter on low all day long. Its loud on high, but all purifiers are loud on the highest setting (I have yet to find one that isnt) but on low, this unit isnt any louder than a fan. My husband cleaned it easily. For what we wanted -- a small auxiliary filter to supplement the 2 main HEPA filters -- its been just fine.
Honeywell Air Purifier     On: 2010-07-30

Was skeptical at first because of the cheap price but was proven wrong. Product works great and I immediatly noticed a difference in the quality of the air in my bedroom. I suffer from asthma and am sleeping much better through the nite.
Name of the Product is just a Flat-out Lie!     On: 2010-07-29

This is the name of the product: "Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter." That is bald-face lie! I just received the machine today and I read that the filter is a "Hepa-type filter" in the manual that comes in the box. So, I go online and look up Hepa filters and find this: "Many imitations of HEPA filters pervade the marketplace, usually called HEPA-type filters. They are less expensive than true HEPA filters, rated lower, and do an inferior job of filtering the air. If your health requires the specific benefits and efficiency of a HEPA filter, check the packaging to make sure the filter is rated at an efficiency of 99.97% for microns .3 in size. If its a true HEPA filter, it will have this rating clearly marked." Source: [...]

I have always been satisfied with the service from Amazon, but Honeywell, well thats the last thing I buy from that company. I dont like being lied to, just so they can make a sale.

unusually loud     On: 2010-07-24

I have a whisper quiet Bionaire minitower filter that is no longer available so I was looking for a comparable unit for a second room. Ordered this after reading all the reviews. Just arrived today and it is unusually loud, even on the lowest fan setting. Not sure if this is a random bad unit or if this is typical (or perhaps my Bionaire is just exceptionally quiet). Returning this one today because the noise is just distracting
Review     On: 2010-07-17

I like this item. I got it in a timely manner and works great. Have no problems with the machine.
Does it's job     On: 2010-07-17

Ive had this unit for about 3 months now, and I run it most of the time when I am at home. So far it has run quite well and cleaned up the air quite a bit. Its got some noise to it, but Its not terribly loud and unless you require dead silence, its not hard to sleep with it on. There is one problem I ran into with this unit, and that is using it in the other position. It explains and has rubber feet so you can stand it up so that the air is drawn in from the top, but after using it that way for a month, the fans seemed to be wearing out (making noise and not running as fast). I switch it back to the position it was in and it seems to be running fine for now. Personally I would suggest placing the unit in the position shown in the picture rather than the other way to keep it from giving you problems.
Good value, effective     On: 2010-07-09

I marked this as an item in my wish list after a friend recommended it. I bought it when I was waking up every morning with a running nose or sneezing.

This purifier is indeed noisy, as some other reviews warned me about. On its lowest setting, its still effective and not too bad, though. After a day of running on low, I can sleep well into the next morning without any sneezing. Its benefit is quite noticeable. I rarely run it on medium or high, as its both noisy and unnecessary.
My 1st Air Purifier, But Not Impressed. Definitely Not 5 Stars     On: 2010-07-08

This thing is small, really easy to use, and cheap. All good things. But its not quiet. Definitely not. On the lowest setting it still has a whirr. Yes, its white background noise, but I dont like it. On the highest setting its loud.

I think it works well. I run it overnight in my office and when I get up in the morning the air smells cleaner. Placebo? Who knows.
Works as advertised     On: 2010-07-06

I originally bought this because I was planning on getting a pet bird and wanted to keep dust at a minimum. I still havent gotten the bird, but I use this in the bedroom and I find Im getting a better nights sleep and my allergies seem better.

I do notice that I have much less dust in that room, too. My room is slightly larger than that specifications in the listing, but it still works pretty good. I havent even had to clean the HEPA filter, yet. The dust accumulates on the pre-filter and I just wash that. Pretty easy.

I may get a second one of the living room.
SUPER BUY     On: 2010-07-06

This item is a great buy for the money. I am a smoker and have friend come visit who also smoke, so I had to get a purifier that would handle my great room which is not very large. I would recommend this item to anyone who needs a purifier for around 85 sq. ft which this unit does the job for that size room.
sounds like a fan     On: 2010-07-06

This is my 1st air purifier, I got it to hope it would help my allergies. It really hasnt done that, or not that much. It sounds like a fan the lower it is the quiet it is. Dont really understand the nightlight feature, I dont need it, but I guess it would be good for kids rooms. Small. I think the white/creamy nish has a slight pink tint to it, or maybe its my lighting, but thats what I notice. Overall I have no complaints, Im assuming its doing what its suppose to. Only have had it for a week. I keep it on pretty much 24/7
Satisfied again     On: 2010-07-06

I order anything I can find at Amazon.com because of the safety and satisfaction of their service.
air cleaner     On: 2010-07-01

small, compact whcih isn what i wanted. the noise level on "low" is abit louder than i had expected however i have gotten used to it..it has an unintentional purpose similar to a "white noise machine" which suprisingly helps me to sleep.
"Purr-fect" for kitty litter dust.     On: 2010-06-28

I purchased this air purifier based on another reviewer being pleased with it removing dust from clumping cat litter. With 2 cats, my floors and furniture were always dusty. Initially I thought it was a little loud, but it was in a room we rarely use and it worked! Then my ingenious hubby plugged it into a motion detector, so now it only turns on and runs for about 10 minutes when one of the cats uses the box. Perfect! I remove and rinse out the filter about once a week, and its always dust covered, so its doing its job. And Ive seen a huge difference in the amount of dust in the room. The size is perfect, and the noise doesnt scare the cats. The price and free shipping were added bonuses. Im a very satisfied customer.
Very Good So Far     On: 2010-06-26

I purchased this product not too long ago for my small one bedroom apartment to help get rid of smells that come from my neighbors apartments, and it seems to do the trick. I really like that you dont have to waste money continually buying filters for this machine and also that its small enough to fit conveniently into little cubby areas you may have in your home. The only downfall with this product is I thought it would be a little quieter. Its not too bad on noise with the low setting, but you definitely know its running.
Great for asthma and allergy sufferers     On: 2010-06-23

I got this purifier to help with my sons asthma. He was coughing so much during the night and had to have allergy medicine to help control it. I wanted something that was small and inexpensive for his room. When the purifier arrived I set it up in his room by his bed. The manual says to run it 24 hours a day and to keep windows and doors shut for best results. Its been almost a week and Im TOTALLY blown away! My sons hasnt had ANY allergy medicine and hasnt had ANY coughing spells! I never thought it would help this much. I close his door during the day and run the machine on low and then at night his door is open and the machine is run on high. It is a little noisy but were used to sleeping with a fan or some kind of noise so it doesnt bother us. I think this purifier is a steal at the price I paid. Im so happy with the way its helped my son, he now sleeps every night in peace....and so do I! I would definitely recommend this for a bedroom or small room.
DECENT.     On: 2010-06-23

I HAVE A PRETTY SMALL BEDROOM, AND I PURCHASED THIS IN MID-MARCH. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT ITS QUITE NOISY BUT IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM. THE NOISE DOESNT BOTHER ME MUCH I JUST TURN THE T.V LOUDER OR LEAVE IT ON WHEN IM NOT HOME AND TURN IT OFF WHEN I COME BACK.
Little in size, big effect     On: 2010-06-22

Weve had two of these for about 3 weeks now and notice a huge difference. We got these for the basement where the kids sleep. Yes, if you have issues with white noise, it will be loud for you. My kids have used a white noise since birth, so this does not bother them. My daughter for the last 6 months has had really bad congestion and trouble sleeping. After allergy tests coming up negative we decided to try an air purifier. Her congestion has cleared up. After a few weeks there is considerable dust collected on the pre-filter.
Loud!     On: 2010-06-18

I may be more sensitive than average, but this one definitely keeps me awake even with the lowest setting. I cannot read, concentrate, play (acoustic) music or sleep. I wonder how people can ever keep this ON while in the same room, which is meant to be small. Since I invested already, I decided to keep running loudly while Im off to work and turn it off in the evening. To give you some idea how loud this is when it is at the lowest setting, it sounds like a work-horse (say 2.5-3 GHz) tower computer with cheep (e.g, ones that come with the pre-built desktop without upgrade) fan(s). I can hear this running from the other end of my flat condo of 800 sqft with mid to high setting.
Pleased enough to recommend     On: 2010-06-17

I live in a studio apartment in midtown Manhattan where two tons of soot fall per square foot each year. Even with filtered screens on windows, air is disgusting with the products of internal combustion. The job is way too big for any air filter.

This little Honeywell not a real Hepa, so the dangerous submicron diesel particles surely get through. But it has noticeably reduced the dust flying around my loft bed and made the area feel fresher. Maybe its just the air circulation--I dont know. The ionizer seems to help pull the dust out of the air and onto surfaces where it can be easily cleaned--I have noticed the accumulation of dust nearby. It sits on top of a bookshelf, out of the line of sight, and on low setting the sound is noticeable but not annoying.

I used to have an expensive real Hepa filter that took up half the room. While it may have filtered out cancerous particles and moved a lot of air, it didnt help with the house dust and was obnoxious to be around, so I rarely turned it on. For the size and price of this little unit, Im happy with what its doing.
better then i expected for the low cost     On: 2010-06-15

This air purifier has exceeded my expectations, It was fairly low in cost, so I didnt think it would make all much of a difference. We have a small apartment and two kittens and a lot of pollen outside our windows, this small air purifier really makes a difference, my boyfriend who is allergic to everything, doesnt wake up congested any more, we have it right next to the bed.
Great product!     On: 2010-06-08

Used in a small room this product produces a noticeable difference in the air quality in a short period of time. My wife suffers from a severe allergy to cats, and this seems to have reduced the amount of dander to a tolerable level. The only reason for the 4-star rating is that the product is louder than we had expected, which in a small bedroom makes it hard to hear the TV.
honeywell air purifier table model     On: 2010-06-07

so far the air purifier has performed very well making a large contribution to my health and well being.
Air Purifier     On: 2010-06-07

Its a bit on the small side and Im not sure how effective it is but, so far, Im satisfied.
Crappy little fan filter at a crappy little price     On: 2010-06-06

Honeywell generally makes good products (I own another Honeywell that I really like) but this model is very cheaply made and noisier than it should be for its size. The only advantage this model has is that the prefilter can be cleaned in the sink and the HEPA filter can be vacuumed (you do have a HEPA vacuum cleaner to vacuum the HEPA filter, right?). I hesitated before I bought it and wish that I had followed my gut instinct. You dont have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good HEPA filter, but you do need to spend more than $40.

Great purchase - want to get one for each room in the house!     On: 2010-06-05

For the price, this Honeywell air purifier was a fantastic deal for me. I have terrible allergies and I often wake up with my eyes crusted over, my nose congested, and my throat raw. The morning after I started up this baby, I had no gunky eyes, no congestion, and my throat felt great. I just got out of bed and I felt "clean" - no longer burdened by allergies (of course, once I left my room that all changed).

Maintenance

Other reviewers noted that this is a "HEPA-type" filter, not a true HEPA filter, but it seemed to work for me just fine. And I LOVE that there is no replacement filters to hunt for or any other parts to deal with. One small complaint is that the power cord is relatively short for my room, but an extension cord did the trick. For set-up, I just took off the plastic, plugged in the machine, and it worked. Best of all, its lightweight and compact, so I can put it anywhere.

Noise

One issue I have is that the noise from the purifiers fan can be distracting. Funny enough, I actually find the highest setting (of three) to be the most tolerable noise-wise. Unlike the lower two levels, I feel the sound at the top mode is more constant and blends into white noise, to the point that I barely notice it anymore.

Smell

Odor is a final point for me. The smell is not unbearable and it is diluted as it moves through the room, but especially if Im close to the fan, I notice an odd fragrance, perhaps like a hospital. This odor becomes even more distinct if you turn on the ionizer. Maybe some people like air to smell this way? Personally, I keep the purifier a comfortable distance from me and Im fine.

Conclusion

As an allergy sufferer, I felt like buying this was money well spent (its actually humming away as I type this). Perhaps there are other purifiers that have more bells & whistles, but for my purposes, this one was perfectly sufficient. Overall, Im satisfied.
Beware of quality control     On: 2010-06-03

Ran unit in a small dusty room for 12 hours- with and without ionizer on- and after 12 hours on high, the filters were absolutely clean. NO DUST ACCUMULATED AT ALL in filters. Very weak airflow into filters, although outflow was strong. Returned it and will try another brand.

I bought this item because there were so many 5 star reviews...I guess that the quality control from the company is the problem, since there seem to be units that are absolutely useless and some that work great. Wish Id gotten one of the good ones.
Great for a Small Room!     On: 2010-06-01

Arrived in a sweet box! I have had it running almost since I recived it. The filters are easy to clean and static! I can really feel the air moving in the room even with the setting on low.
A little noisey but works great for a small room     On: 2010-05-29

Works great in a bedroom a bit loud on high speed but fine on low.
Very effective for reasonably sized rooms, but a bit noisy...     On: 2010-05-27

I ordered this unit because I rescued a cat - but I am very allergic to them. I know, I seem pretty stupid, but I love them. Anyway, this unit works great, its like I dont even own a cat when its on. On low it works decently well, and the noise level is pretty decent. On the upper two settings, the noise is pretty loud, and youll probably have to turn up the TV, depending on the size of the room. I use it in both my living room and my bed room - it works great in both. I keep it on 24 hours a day, and I have become used to the white noise while the unit is on low. It helps me sleep now.

Summary: This unit is good for people who dont want to spend a lot of money, want clean air, (especially for people with allergies!) and dont mind some noise. For the price, it does its job well. The noise levels are up to you though. Perfectly fine for me. Also, you may want to seal up the outsides er...."lines" with some tape. Some air DOES go through there, so you should seal them up. There is a line going around the unit on the upper half. Youll know what Im talking about. I just put some tape and its all good to go. Had it for 1 month so far, works wonders.
I got chills, they're multiplying     On: 2010-05-23

As quantities of dust, pollen, etc. around me are difficult to quantify, I cant be sure if this is eliminating the irritants. I do feel like Im breathing better and my eyes arent itchy & watery since I plugged this in just a few days ago. What I wasnt prepared for, or expecting in an air filter, is the amount of air this thing blows. Its like having an air conditioner in the room. If youre at all susceptible to discomfort from drafts and cold air blowing at you, Id avoid this. Then again, this is my first air filter; maybe they all do this. Guess I thought an air filter would suck in air, not expel it. It amazes me how cold it makes the room feel. No matter where I place it in the room I feel cold air blowing on me. Its uncomfortably cold, and this is spring. Cant imagine having it turned on during the winter months.
Good Purifier for Its Size     On: 2010-05-21

Its a fairly small purifier that works effectively in small rooms. If set to the highest level, its loud for about an hour or so then it settles down (or maybe Im used to the noise). Otherwise, its great and Id buy another one for my cubicle at work.
Nice Little Purifier     On: 2010-05-18

I dont think the sound is overwhelming at all. It sounds like a fan. I like that its small -- the perfect size if you want to put a purifier in several different rooms rather than relying on one big machine to take care of the whole house. I havent noticed a difference in air quality, though. I got it to try and cut down on the amount of dust in my apartment. It doesnt seem to be doing that. I raised it off of the floor last week and Im hoping that helps. Ill update my review if anything changes. Im not giving up on it yet!
BOOM !!!     On: 2010-05-18

BOOM is all that i got when i tried to plug it in. The air purifier just got fried. also there is no manuall at all. very bad experience. since im in Egypt the return is not an option.
Honeywell Compact Air Purifier     On: 2010-05-14

This air purifier works GreaT for keeping ciggy smells from lingering. Only problem is that it is fairly loud. So I only use it when Im smoking then cut it off when Im done. Its small enough to fit on my medium sized desk also. I used to use a small purifier but it didnt last like this one.
HEPA     On: 2010-05-14

This is a great product that really cuts down on the dust from (clumping) cat litter when pouring it and while the cats use it. Wish I had bought this years ago! Highly recommend! Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter!
You get what you pay for     On: 2010-05-13

i had $140 dollar honeywell unit a couple years ago that moved a lot more air than this one and was much quieter. But times are tight and I needed a hepa filter for allergies, so i went cheap.

This one is OK, but would for a room larger than 10 x 8, as the manual says.

My guess is that will not last very long, and for the price, it;s OK.
Works like a charm     On: 2010-05-13

I live in a one-bedroom apartment where a neighbor smokes. Im highly allergic so I purchased this for my bedroom. It clears the smell not only out of the 10 x 12 bedroom, but out of almost the entire apartment. It works for the purpose I purchased it for and I am very satisfied.
Skeptical     On: 2010-05-11

The first unit had a malfunctioning "clean filter light" that continuously blinked on and off. After a week of conversations with the maker (Honeywell/Kaz), I decided to send the unit back. Thankfully, I bought this item from Amazon which took back the defective unit and sent me a brand new one instantly. So far, so good. However, I do still have doubts as to if this unit really helps purify the air.
False advertising to say "HEPA"     On: 2010-05-11

Honeywell is guilty of false advertising on a number of their products, in that they call a lot of their air filters "HEPA filters" when they are not. Read the fine print and youll see the phrase "HEPA-like".

HEPA is a specification that must be met before you can use the term. Specifically, it muat "at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers (µm) in diameter". This filter, on the other hand, removes "up to 99%" of particles. If you have bad allergies the difference is huge.

Its like calling an actor "Oscar-winning" when they didnt win an Oscar. "Well, they won a different award, and that *like* an Oscar...." No its not. Perhaps they can call things "sterile" if theyve washed them in tap water. Thats "like" sterile, right?

Shame on Honeywell for slapping "HEPA" on all their filters even when it doesnt apply.
works good but loud     On: 2010-05-09

I was prepared for the noise this item makes from reading the other reviews. It was not a deal breaker for me though. As for its main job, clearing the air, it works very well indeed. However, even though I knew it would be loud I didnt think it would be that loud. Wow. Even on low it would be too loud in to watch tv I think. I have it in my computer room so thats ok. I havent had it long enough to clean the filters yet, but it looks fairly straight forward. It cleaned the air in my computer room, thats all I was after.
Love this!     On: 2010-05-09

This is a powerful little air purifier, and definitely worth the price. I just moved into an apartment about 6 months ago, and have been suffering with allergies, which is strange for me. Id wake up every morning with dust in the back of my throat, causing irritation. Its gross talking about it, let alone breathing in all that! Anyway, Ive had this about 6 days now, and its making life so much better. My apartment no longer smells like a musty apartment (which, no matter how much Febreze I used, it did) and Im no longer sniffly and coughy. And no more icky dust in the back of my throat in the mornings! Its a little loud on the highest setting, but after a while, its actually soothing to me. It has a little green light to let you know that its on, which was a little annoying at first, but not so much anymore. All in all, a great product at a fantastic price.
Subpar     On: 2010-05-07

I really needed and expected this product to be stronger and function better. I did a good amount of research on it and it was a sore dissappointment. The shipping was fine but the product bad.
Works Great     On: 2010-05-04

I read a number of other reviews about this unit having some quality issues but decided to risk it. Im glad I did!

I live in an older apartment complex, which means that dozens (maybe hundreds?) of people have lived here before me.

Bought this to freshen up the stagnant air and it does a great job. It cleans and purifies the air very well.

As far as the others who had issues, the unit comes with a giant red piece of paper in the shape of a stop sign saying

"Questions? Concerns? Please do not return this product to the store. Contact KaZ Consumer Relations - We Can Assist You! [...] - So theres no reason for someone to gripe in the review section without having done that first.

Highly recommended.

The Honeywell compact air filter is great. very quite and does the job. Its wonderful for a small room. Very good product.

Definitely NOT Quiet     On: 2010-04-28

The reviews saying that this purifier is quiet are definitely misleading. Even on the lowest setting, it is fairly loud(I was able to hear it from another room, with the AC going). It sounds like being on a plane, so if you dont mind that type of white noise, then this is an ok product. I use it at work where I am surrounded by computers, so the noise blends in. I only had it for a few days, so I have not yet felt a significant change in the air quality.
Noisy Purifier?!?!? Not at all!     On: 2010-04-22

Ok so you have to know what you are buying and yes this unit has a fan, I know what a surprise. HAHA. I currently live in a city and it is never too noise its actually kind of nice. It is great for small room. I usually have more to write but if you are looking for a compact, inexpensive, easy to clean and Air purifier. This is the unit for you.

honeywell purifier     On: 2010-04-17

This purifier was not as great as I was expecting it to be. It is very noisy.
Would be nice if I could *breathe* it working     On: 2010-04-08

I havent noticed a change in the air quality, and wasnt really expecting one. Its kind of just a cute little purchase you definitely dont need but somehow convince yourself you do. I can personally sleep fine with it on high mode and about 14 feet from me.
Breaks down after only a year     On: 2010-04-03

I bought this due to the easy filter maintenance. It worked fine for a year, then the red light went on indicating the filter needed to be cleaned. I cleaned it, and the red light is still on. Front cover is hard to get off. Piece of China junk. Save your money and buy something else that works!
Terrific     On: 2010-04-01

I read the reviews on many purifiers and decided on this. I have had it since February and it has done its job wonderfully! My husband and I are smokers and the smoke would just sit. We live in a one bedroom apartment and I couldnt believe the difference. It keeps the air cleaner and fresh. I know only one would suffice so I am thinking about giving the other one to one of my kids. We just now cleaned the filters (even though the "clean" indicator didnt activate. We found it really didnt need cleaned yet.)and it was very easy to do.
DOES NOT WORK     On: 2010-03-31

I have owned this item for almost a year. I have tried to make it work and give it the benefit of the doubt. But I have tried a few experiments with it and I am SURE that it is not removing anything from my air in my bedroom. I have the bedroom door shut and it still doesnt even touch the dust on the top of the dressers. I clean them and keep a watch and it is right back even after using this on HIGH. I wish it worked but I am afraid I will have to try a bigger one or something. I want clean air. and the dust on my dresser tells me that this is NOT cleaning the air. Sorry.
Don't Even Think About Buying it     On: 2010-03-28

This product spews black dust from the carbon filter EVERYWHERE. Creates more dust than it captures.
seems to work     On: 2010-03-24

Ive been using it for a couple months now and the filter has built up a nice layer of dust, Ill be cleaning it soon. Bought this not because I have any allergies or anything, but because there seemed to be a lot of dust in my small room.

I cant really say how well its doing its job, but by the layer of dust Id say that its helping keep the air in my bedroom clean. My room is small so this purifier seems to be sufficient for it. I leave it on when I go off to work or leave the house for long periods of time, its too loud to keep on while I sleep, even on the low setting, as Im a very light sleeper.

The only con I can think of is the noise. It makes a loud, but smooth, hum. Not unexpected. Ive also never used the ionizer part of this purifier.
Good bang for my buck     On: 2010-03-23

Nice and small, its compact enough to keep above a chest of drawers and powerful enough to keep our entire 2nd floor (its a converted attic, approximately 10 x 30) free of that dingy, dusty scent that seemed to plague it. A bit noisy on the highest setting, but if you only use it during the day when youre not home, who cares?

Works well at the 2nd highest setting, also. And this setting is much quieter and less distracting.
Unit was loud and did not move enough air     On: 2010-03-08

Purchased unit because I wanted a small filter for dust and pollen for my bedroom. In my previous house I had a much larger unit that was both quiet and effective, but got rid of it when downsizing to a small apartment. This unit was just too noisy, even on the lowest speed, for me to sleep. Returned through Amazons excellent return policy.
Great Air Cleaner for Small Spaces     On: 2010-03-03

Great Air Cleaner for Small Spaces and the price was very reasonable since it included S&H, Also easy to clean the filter
Motor Burned Out     On: 2010-03-01

My unit died after a week of use on high. I would return it, but being overseas, its not worth the cost, time, or trouble. I found a unit that was almost identical at a thrift shop and brought that home. I put the nice and clean filter from the honeywell into this new unit. It didnt last through the night, running on high. Both fans are dead in the exact same way. The motor doesnt start, turn, hum, anything. It acts like it isnt getting any electricity. Ive taken it apart and nothing seems wrong. I think the motor just burned out. So Im going to call this one a loss. Now to look for a filter made by someone else.
Makes My Room Sound Like I'm in a War Zone     On: 2010-03-01

I bought the Honeywell HHT-011 through Amazon.com. At first all was well and I was very pleased with the air quality produced by the Air Purifier. Im currently deployed as a U.S. Army Soldier in Iraq and the air outside is normally filled with dust, dirt, and smoke from Iraqis burning stuff. I live in a Containerized Housing Unit (CHU) and bought the Honeywell HHT-011 for my 12 X 8 room room. I tend to have sinus issues when the air quality is poor. The fan was a little loud, but tolerable - I just had to crank up the TV or IPOD. The front grill did not fit snuggly on the unit and reflects on how the unit is cheaply made.

However after about one month of use, the Honeywell HEPA Clean started to get louder and louder. It appears that the fan wheels are off center and have created a rattling noise. Now the Air Purifier is much louder and rumbles, rattles, and rolls. Ive cleaned the filters (pre-filter and HEPA Filter) and the noise persists.

This purchase was very disappointing since its a quality of life issue. But, you get what you pay for. Reading other similar reviews, this sounds like a quality control issue with Honeywell. Be prepared to spend more for a quality unit. Thanks.
Honeywell HHT-011 Air Purifier     On: 2010-02-28

This compact HEPA filter unit operates very well and does not take up much space. Although a little white noise is inherent with its operation, its been a Godsend for use in a sickroom environment (the bedroom while receiving chemotherapy for cancer)... I just bought another one for my sons bedroom -- he has allergies/asthma.
Low price, good performance, bad design AND SOME TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR SATISFACTION with it     On: 2010-02-07

I bought this unit to help clean the air of my bedroon which is in the habit of getting too dirty of small dirt, organic and moth particles brought by ones cloth with everyday use and cleaning (small, tiny particles of our clothes do tend to come away by normal wear). This unit is cheap and is able to do the cleaning of a small sized room doing a good job at it. In over a year of having this unit cleaning the air in a daily basis, Ive noticed that the air flux coming out of one of the openings of the unit was getting smaller and smaller (and eventually the unit was acting if as it was sucking the air in from one of the exhausts), until one day, the unit stopped working. Either the fans where misplaced from the fabric as one of them (there are two) seemed to suck the air as opposed to throw it away, or the motor was dead: all the unit did was a buzzing noise when turned on and the fans stopped rotating.

I thought either a replacement motor or a correct placement of one of the rotors was due, and I didnt want to buy another unit for a years service only.I tried to open it myself but soon found out that there where strange screws I couldnt work on, so I took it to a home appliance technician to take a closer look... when we opened the unit the problem was obvious: there where TONS of dirt accumulated over all the interior! dirt... moth.. you name it, everything was there. No motor replacement needed, no changing the fans rotors... the fix: to clean and re-lube all the interior. The dirt accumulatted over a year to efectively stalled the motor and prevent it from rotating the fans. How did all the dirt ended in there? It is supposed to clean the air after passing the 2 filters and before reaching the inside! The fact is this unit is so cheaply designed that it has small openings all around it, efectivelly letting dirty air inside in a way it was not intended to. THE FIX:

a) If your unit is old (6-12 months), clean it first from all the dirt on the inside (depending of how dirty your air is)
1) Remove the plastic grid that holds the 1st filter.
2) remove the 2nd (HEPA) filter
3) I used kids plasticine to seal the openings all around the exterior of the base of the HEPA (2nd) filter: this is where 2 separate moldings "snap" together, but leaving lines of "openings" that let air pass unchecked.
4) Return the filters and the grid
5) Use any kind of adhesive-tape (masking tape would be good) to seal the "line-opening" that goes all around the exterior of the unit from the "right" side of the grid all the way to the "left" side of the grid. This line is the snap juncture between the base of the unit and the molded top where the controls are.

In this way, MOST of the air will now have to pass thru BOTH filters and the air leacking to the inside would be minimized. Happy air.
Deception     On: 2010-02-06

You said in your listing and even on this page that this has a HEPA filter. But when we received and installed the manual says it is a "HEPA LIKE" filter. The item is nothing more than a fan and a cheap cloth filter that can be purchased for a fraction of the price paid, but more important it is not filtering the air like a true HEPA filter. I would return it except that you will probably charge me for shipping both ways and tax even if you agreed to accept it. Being HEPA is like being pregnant. You cannot be pregnant like .

Very pleased!     On: 2010-02-03

I have asthma and am constantly surrounded by these air filters. I am highly allergic to dust and pet dander, both of which are in no short supply in the old house I live in. I have had no problems with my asthma while I use these filters and have found that having two in each room seems to do the trick. I never need to use my inhaler and dont need daily zyrtec anymore. I do vacuum the filters more often than needed, but found that it keeps them in good working order. They arent quiet, but do provide a hum that actually allows for me to have some white noise that drowns out the sounds from around the house and outside.

Overall I really enjoy them, and you cant beat the price.
I need another!!     On: 2010-02-03

In just over a month this little guy has become worth its weight in gold! My mother has had a chronic cough for over a year now and from Christmas til Feb 1 its GONE! Will definitel be purchasing another for myself. And honestly its no noisier than a small fan.
Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier.     On: 2010-02-03

I am a long-time user of compact room air purifiers (namely Kenmore), which have been discontinued. I decided to try the Honeywell HHT-011 and am very well pleased with its construction and performance. A feature I particularly like is its permanent HEPA filter, which can be easily cleaned with a vacuum sweeper attachment. My previous air purifiers had filters (not HEPA type) which had to be disposed of after 3 months at a cost of $10.99 each. I would highly recommmend this Honeywell product for anyone requiring an air purifier for a small room.
Nothing special     On: 2010-02-01

If this is a quiet purifier Id hate to hear the loud ones! I guess this works OK, but I dont think Id recommend it to anyone. In a small (13x13) bedroom its too loud to have on while sleeping, so we leave it on during the day. You get what you pay for with this product.
not the worst i guess     On: 2010-02-01

the noise is noticable on the highest setting, i havent noticed a difference in the air but it gathers some dust in the pre filter.
It actually works     On: 2010-01-25

Its a bit noisy, but it actually works.
It seems to deal with cigarette just fine.
Great buy     On: 2010-01-23

I reviewed tons of air purifiers before I made this purchase and I also looked at numerous reviews of this particular product. I have to say that I am absolutely pleased with the purchase. It is a bit louder than I would have liked, even on the lowest setting, but it is not unbearable. I dont sleep with it on. I put it on for about an hour or two before I go to bed and that works just fine. I havent had any night time congestion to interrupt my sleep nor do I wake congested. I am also asthmatic and I realize that since Ive been using this air purifier I have not had any wheezing during the night. I have not had any indication as yet for the filter to be cleaned as it is relatively new so I cant vouch for the permanence of the filter as yet. Nonetheless, this is a good investment thus far. It does the job. You just have to figure out how to use it best for you. Of course the price cannot be beat.
works very well     On: 2010-01-22

i got this since i have a cat who sheds quite a bit and baby on the way to try and clear up the air around the apartment since i usually wake up all stuffed up. it does a really good job. i wouldnt call it quiet, i usually leave it on its medium setting and its definitely audible. its certainly not loud though, and if youre good at ignoring things like that its just white noise. im a light sleeper and wouldnt like to have it in my bedroom while i was trying to sleep but i dont keep it in there.

ive only had it a couple weeks and cant speak to the longevity but im happy with the purchase now.
not that great...     On: 2010-01-21

this machine is LOUD! i thought that id be able to live with the noisiness, however, it is just too annoying to get past. i fell like it just spreads the dust around the room instead of collecting it. im going to give it away, not a good product at all.
Great Little Purifier for the $$$$     On: 2010-01-17

I had this for several months now and it seems like a great little air purifier. I have not had to clean it yet and I keep 3 of them running almost all the time. By the way..Im a smoker, but alot of people I know are not! One by where I sit in the Living Room. one by my PV and one on the night stand on my side of the bed. My Mom and girlfriend really dont like the smell of smoke and have alittle bit of asthma, but when Im smoking by one of the machines....they say they really dont notice it. As far as picking up dust and other odors...I cant really tell myself since I do smoke and my nose is shot...but others say it smells better and they can breathe better...so they must be working? A little noisy even on low....but I can live with it. Like I said..I havent had the light come on to clean the filter yet...so will have to wait and see, and my place is dusty. The reason I really bought these to try is because you NEVER have to replace the filters...just clean them and like I said...Ive had them for about 3 months and havent had the light come on to tell me to clean the filters? By the way, it does have a nice little green light on top that makes a nice low light night light...so Thumbs Up
Works well and relatively quiet.     On: 2010-01-15

This unit does what it promises and on the low setting, its not loud at all and is more of a low humming sound. Medium and high are definitely noticeable though. The air is noticeably easier to breathe in with less dust and other particles.
Works for me.     On: 2010-01-10

I bought this item because I began to have asthma attacks in my home .Ever since I have had this unit I have had no real attacks. It is not as loud as some people say in their reviews. I run it on low and I barely notice it.Good buy.The fact that the filters are cleanable is awesome.
Bad Odor Emits from this brand new purifier     On: 2010-01-09

Hello
We purchased the Honeywell HHT-011 Air Purifier a couple of days ago. Ran it for about 2 hours, then had to put it back in the box as the black pre-filter emits a horrible odor. Gave me a really severe headache and tonight when I had another look at it, same thing, and it was not even plugged in that time.
I wondered if anyone else had this happen and if washing the filter will help?
I will have to return it is the odor cannot be removed.

Honeywell does well...     On: 2010-01-03

I was excited to get this filter as a gift and I will need to run it a full week until I can say Im satisfied...I can tell the difference with air quality but it can be quite loud actually so I cant run it 24 hrs in my room, it keeps me up on low! I might have to move it elsewhere so the sound doesnt bother me!
Great for a small room     On: 2010-01-01

Bought as a gift to my mom. She has asthma. Seems to be doing a good job in her bedroom.
Tim     On: 2009-12-24

It works great. It is small and quiet and doesnt need replacement filters. I recommend it for anyone with allergies to get rid of the dust in the house.
A miracle!     On: 2009-12-23

Weve only had this item for one day but already notice a HUGE difference. Both my husband and I had been waking up with stuffy noses ever since the cold season began and we started using our fireplace for heat. We placed a larger unit in our family room a week ago (also Honeywell) and noticed right away that there was less dust.
But the real test was placing this smaller unit in our bedroom for the first time last night. The white noise was great! And the best part was........no stuffy noses this morning! It was like a miracle!
And no filter to replace!

Works well.     On: 2009-12-17

I put this product in my daughters room since she seems to cough at night so I thought it might help. It has helped so far. Her coughing at night while sleeping has been greatly diminished. The highest setting is kind of noisy.
Made a horrible noise from the start     On: 2009-12-16

I purchased this after reading all the reviews and was a bit concerned from the start but I bought it anyway. Turned it on and it made a horrible sound. It sounds like it is rubbing against the fan or something. You could move it around turning it on its side and the sound would change. My husband thought that it would wear off whatever was rubbing by running it overnight on high but it didnt. It is a piece of junk unfortunately. Amazon took it back and refunded my money no problem.
4 Star reason why.     On: 2009-12-16

As everyone had stated already. I give this item 4 stars, just because it is pretty loud (even on low). 4 stars because it actually works and I can breathe again. I wake up more energized and no more dry throats (Im assuming i collect a lot of dust in my system when i sleep). Great product, a little noisy.
Not bad     On: 2009-12-13

This filter does seem to do an admirable job, we put it in our bedroom.

Unfortunately it does make a little bit too much noise for us to run it while we sleep.

Still, if we run it during the day and turn it off to sleep it does seem to help.
A fine unit     On: 2009-12-13

This air cleaner is a little loud but seems to do the job nicely. Havent had to clean it yet. I would recommend.
I can Breathe!     On: 2009-12-12

We have had the air purifier for 3 weeks. I have allergies to many airborne pollens etc. Before getting the air purifier, I was taking allergy meds at least once a day and often was not able to sleep due to itchiness. I have had to take 1 pill in the last 2 weeks. This is a miracle for me. We needed to clean the filter this week. It was a very simple process.
This is a great little unit.
All parts would be nice!     On: 2009-12-11

I couldnt even tell you how well my air purifier works. I recieved it without the filter and when I contacted Amazon, they sent me to the manufacturer and the manufacturer will not respond to my inquiry. That being said, I wasted over $40 for something I cant use and couldnt tell you whether it even works or not. I purchase from Amazon quite often, good customer lost.
Works wonderfully     On: 2009-12-10

I got this air purifier because I had a cough due to mold and other allergens I was unable to completely eradicate in my very old home. It works wonderfully. I no longer cough much at all and I find my breathing, particularly at night, to be much easier. The set up on this product is quite easy. All you do is remove the front cover and install the filter. Plug it in, and youre set. The only "drawback" Ive found to this product is that the fan is quite powerful, so its a little noisy. I often have to leave my bedroom if I want to properly hear someone talking to me on the telephone and I have to turn the volume of the TV up a little louder to be heard over the fan. But its worth it to breathe easier. This product does the work of other much more expensive products at a reasonable price. Id definitely buy one again if needed.

Works great!     On: 2009-12-10

I have a pup and it helps absorb the "pup smell" in my room. Works great!
Good product     On: 2009-12-10

Honeywell HHT-011 iss excellent for a small bedroom. I find my need for allergy pills has gone down since my purchase and installation. On the low setting the the sound is acceptable and does not in anyway disturb my sleep. I recommend this product, it arrived on time and has performed well since the day I installed it and is certainly worth the price.
Still working after a year     On: 2009-12-06

I have owned 3 of these for a little over a year. One for my bedroom, one for my living room, and one for my office at work. I use them all daily. My only complaint is that the clean filter indicator light doesnt work on all of the units. Also I dont believe the ionizer does anthing ot at least I cant notice a difference. The three setting are nice because on high it is a little loud for my office at work. Good filter for the price.
Good units     On: 2009-12-05

I bought two of these for my kids rooms. They work great and at low speeds arent very noisy. I like that I can turn off the ionizing feature.
worked great for only 3 weeks     On: 2009-12-04

I bought this filter about six weeks ago. I have allergies and asthma, this filter allowed me to sleep threw the night and not wake up with an asthma attack. It was alittle loud but I like the white noise when im sleeping. When i used it in the living room i had to turn the tv up a bit. It also left a black ring on the table i usually had it on but it washed off pretty easilly. After abought 3 weeks of use it pretty much stoped filtering the air, and my asthma attackes returned. It also doesnt run as loudly anymore, or suck up as much air. I took it apart and cleaned it as recomended, and no change. So it worked great for 3 weeks but thats kinda a waste of money if it only lastes 3 weeks. So now i have to buy a new one this time i will spend more money and hopefully get a better product.
Good for the price     On: 2009-11-30

I used to wake up with a headache every morning and I havent had one since using this air purifier in the bedroom. I would have given it 5 stars but its loud. At first you could hear it in another room, but I found that if I raised one corner it quieted down somewhat. Its still too loud to keep on at night, so I just have it on during the day when Im not in the room.
Dusty pollen allergies     On: 2009-11-30

I bought three of these. My buildings laundry room contains six dryers. The exhaust from these dryers is located just below my living room window. My apartment gets very dusty. The air purifiers work much better than I had expected. They are also easy to clean. The only drawback is they are somewhat noisy.
Compact filtration     On: 2009-11-30

Appears to be good product - a bit too early to tell, but fits nicely in smaller space. Like the idea of not having to constantly purchase filters for this.
No problems yet.     On: 2009-11-27

I needed a reasonable priced air purifier and I found this Honeywell filter on Amazon. Unlike most filters, this one cost under $150. One negative is the noise level when it is on low. However, I bet other filters this size or larger creates more noise.

Love my Honeywell HHT-011 Air Purifier     On: 2009-11-25

So far I really like this product. Its a little loud, but for the price I can live with that. My house doesnt smell stuffy when I walk through the front door anymore. Havent had to clean the filter yet, so that will be the ultimate test. I highly recommended it.
Compact Air Cleaner - Honeywell HHT-011     On: 2009-11-25

So far Im happy enough with my purchase of the Honeywell HHT-011 to have purchased a second one for the spare bedroom. The product is very compact, but still moves quite a bit of air on the higher fan speeds. The highest of the three fan speeds is fairly loud, but since we use this speed as "white noise" at night, we do not find this to be a problem. The medium speed, which we run through the day, still moves enough air to keep the dust down, but is quiet enough to not notice the sound. I dont run the ionizer, which seems unnecessary to me anyway, since it has HEPA filtration. There is also a small LED "nightlight" that can be switched on while the unit is running.

The washable pre-filter is open cell foam and the main filter is a fabric HEPA with a rubber gasket. If you need something to reduce odors, what I did was replace the pre-filter with the activated charcoal filter that most air cleaners use as pre-filters. I bought a universal Honeywell pre-filter at Target (the same one I used for my Honeywell 10500? that this unit replaced) and just cut out the size I needed using the foam filter as a template. It seems to work better at reducing pet odor, and dander. When dirty, it can be disposed of and replaced with another one cut from the universal pre-filter (I figure I will get about 8 from it -for around $10). I dont know if this substitution will affect the warranty, but it doesnt seem to make the blower work any harder.

I replaced a larger Honeywell air cleaner with this unit, which is actually undersized for my room by about a third, and havent noticed any increase in dust, odors or anything else. My last Honeywell ran almost continuously for just over three years before the blower started rattling. If I get half that for this unit at just under a third of the price, Ill be happy.

One suggestion of vacuuming out the filter: Unless your vacuum has HEPA filtration, you should probably vacuum out the filter in a different location than where the unit is being used, otherwise you will just remove the stuff that the HEPA filter caught and blow it back into the room through the vacuum.
Nice little purifier!     On: 2009-11-21

If you can compromise on the sound it produces..this is the cpeapest purifier in the market for small rooms. Good value for the money and does it job quite well if you leave it on 24/7. Not sure how long it will last but I am using it from a week now.
excellent value     On: 2009-11-15

this air purifier is small enough to fit in a small space, but performs very well. i would buy this item again.
BAD-BAD-BAD     On: 2009-11-14

I placed it in my office which is less than 200 sq ft and with it on high I smoked one cigar. Twenty hours later it still smelled of smoke. What a joke.
Love it!     On: 2009-11-13

This helped my living room smell fresh within one day! My living room was bigger then it suggested. I am very happy. My home feels cleaner and the air is much fresher!
Works well for smokers     On: 2009-11-11

Since we are smokers we purchased one of these and it worked so well cleaning up the smoke smell in our Living room we ended up buying 3 more for other rooms in the house. It actually smells clean when you walk in the house now, no longer smell the smoke, also I have to dust less often. We love them.
Effective, Quiet, God Send!     On: 2009-11-07

Every fall I get a terrible sinus infection. I live in a high rise in downtown Chicago. My boyfriend suggested I buy an air purifier, which I have previously thought were for sissies and people whose mothers pampered them. (I know Ill be dodging eggs for this). However, within about an hour of plugging this little wonder in and putting it on high I stopped sneezing. Ive revised my opinions of those of you with air purifiers, and I now know you were all just smarter than me.

The other reviews mentioned the size and the noise. Im not sure if the noise would be unbearable if I lived in suburbia, but as I live in downtown Chicago, the noise is fairly comparable to having my patio doors open on 20th floor (in other words, I dont think its too bad). I can definitely watch TV over it. (one reviewer said the noise was so bad they couldnt watch TV, to which I say, you are a big old whiner).

As for size. I was pleasantly surprised by how light and compact it is. You can operate it both horizontally and vertically, and Ive found the vertical arrangement to be much nicer as it blows the fresh air towards me (depending on how its positioned).

Aesthetically, its not the best or worst looking appliance. I dont think Ill leave it out for dinner parties or house tours, but other than that, given the dramatic change in my health, Im willing to treat it like a new family pet: regardless of looks its here to stay and has earned a place in my heart.

I am purchasing a second unit so that I have one in my living room and one in my bedroom. I have followed the advice of other reviewers and am only using the ion setting to boost cleaning for a short time then turning it off so as not to add ozone to my home.
Amazing!     On: 2009-11-01

Its such an amazing product, especially given its price. My expectation was not very high, but it is great.

I have a ferret, so my room always smells a little even I try really hard to clean. After I got this air purifier, I turned it on in the room on high for 10 hours straight, the smell was gone!!!
Great little device!     On: 2009-10-30

This is a great little air purifier. I used it to kill the neighbors cigarette smoke that seeps through the walls in my ghetto apartment.

I have two. One in my bedroom and one in the living room. Since I dont have central air, I place these under my window unit air conditioners to shoot the cold air up, where my ceiling fan circulates it around the room. Its kept it much colder, and much cleaner smelling in the rooms than last summer when I didnt have them.

You can also scent a small piece of paper with your favorite cologne or perfume and place it behind the filter to fragrance your room!
Works well     On: 2009-10-28

Its quiet and I can see the dusk being caught. I enjoy this product very well.
Great Buy for a bedroom     On: 2009-10-28

I think it is a great buy for a bedroom HEPA filter at around 46 bucks. I find the sound on low to be good for sleep, high is quite loud for the record. I can see the crap it grabs on the pre-filter and glad that it is there! I have noticed a lot less dust accumulation and I am definitely breathing and sleeping better.
Energy Usage     On: 2009-10-27

For anyone concerned about its electricity usage, I hooked it up to my P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor and ran through the fan speeds. Here is the breakdown:

Low = 24W
Medium = 30W
High = 49W

Turning on the ionizer did not change the reading on the Kill-A-Watt, though I didnt leave it on long, so I dont know if it may have registered after a few minutes.

I have only had this air filter for a few days, so I cant give a full review yet. First impressions: It is louder than I thought it would be, but I think Ill get used to it. Getting the front panel off to unpack or clean the filter is a bit difficult, and the plastic latches seem flimsy. The air in my bedroom does seem fresher, and I think my nose is less stuffy than usual when I wake up. Im considering getting a second.
Great Bargain     On: 2009-10-18

This purifier is a must for condo or apartment living. Pros: Gets rid of cigarette and BBQ smoke smells from the neighbors and prevents the smells of Sunday night dinner from lingering until Monday morning. Its also great for allergy sufferers like myself. Cons: The I (first) setting barely makes a sound, but put it on III (three) and you cant hear the TV. Also, DO NOT store this unit flush against a wall. It draws all the dust in your house towards it and that dust lands on (and sticks to) anything surrounding the unit. We have a small black cloud on our white wall that necessitated a repaint, which we planned on anyway. If we hadnt planned on repainting, I would be very upset! Overall, this unit is a GREAT value for the price and a must for anyone still saving to buy their first home.
Just Right     On: 2009-10-12

My boyfriend plays hockey and stores his gear in our spare room. This would not be a problem if the spare room didnt also double as a guest room. Who wants to smell sweaty hockey gear when theyre trying to sleep? No one.

This air purifier takes care of the smell without taking up a lot of space. The "high" mode is a little noisy, but if you like sleeping with white noise in the background (like I do) then its not a problem. Or you can just put it on a lower setting. The ionizer does a good job of getting bad smells out of the air. The unit lets you know when its time to clean the filter, so theres no need to guess. And since the filter is cleanable, you dont have to waste money on replacement filters.

All in all, a great product for the price.
Works Great!     On: 2009-10-11

I bought this because I got tired of dusting and vacuuming! I recently moved and noticed that dust was visible less than 24 hours after dusting. If I didnt dust for a week, there was an alarming amount of dust in my bedroom. This could have been due to the construction next door. At any rate, I had to do something! I read the reviews for this unit and decided to give it a try. I have only had it for 1 week, but have noticed that I havnt needed to dust at all since I turned it on. My bedroom measures 12x14, which is about average size as far as bedrooms go I guess. Made an incredible difference immediately for me! It could be a little quieter, but you cant argue with the results! You cannot hear it at all on setting 1, but can definately hear on settings 2 and 3! I usually have it set to 2 during the day and on 1 at night. Would definately recommend it as I plan to buy another for the living room! I love mine!
Good for a small room     On: 2009-10-11

Got it based on all of the reviews on this product. It came promptly, easy to set up. It is loud on the high setting. Otherwise it would get 5 stars. I like the night light feature on it.
Does a nice job!     On: 2009-10-11

This purifier works well. I bought it for my bedroom. Gets out the smell of smoke quickly! I love Honeywell brand...I have two purifiers from this company and both do great! This one is kind of loud though. But not too bad, and I got used to it. Love the fact I dont have to change the filter - and great price....free shipping!!!! I would buy it again!
Great for a small space     On: 2009-10-09

I live in a very small apartment with my family. Our bedroom has very little ventilation. We cant open the window because there is a beehive near by. Plus we have 2 dogs who are shedding. With the filter in the room, I can finally breathe again.

The high setting is a bit loud, but if you have the TV on you can barely hear it. It also doubles as a nice air conditioner. Im thinking of purchasing another one for the living room. My allergies have gone away.

The cover is hard to get off. The best thing to do is lay it down with the cover facing up. Then press the button and slide it towards the center. Ive gotten the hang of it, so the cover comes off much easier. I didnt have a problem with it on a table. It stays still. It also works well on the floor. I would place it in the center of the room.

I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Mrs. Clean     On: 2009-10-05

Works exceptionally well in my bedroom with the door closed.
Con: Its loud. Even on low. I dont mind the noise since I am used to sleeping with a box fan.
Cleans well - quality could be better     On: 2009-09-29

The good:

Generally this is a well designed little air cleaner. I live under several large trees that dump lots of pollen and other particulate into the air. At night I used to be able to see thousands of motes floating on the air.

I purchased three of these little units, one for each section of my tri-level home. The air becomes perfectly clear after only a few hours of operation - no motes visible.

Im not sure how to analyze the ionization function - I use it, but Im not sure how to tell what effect it has.

The night light is actually helpful.

The filters are permanent - just vaccuum them out and you are good to go.

The Bad:
I purchased three of these. One of them has a problem with a bearing and has become quite loud. Ill have to replace it as the noise is intollerable. The other two remain very quiet on the middle setting.

The unit has a light that is supposed to come on when its time to clean the filter - as far as I can tell this doesnt really work.
Cheap product     On: 2009-09-15

Everything about this product is cheap, from the lightweight plastic it is made of to the form and fit of the parts. It was almost impossible to remove the front cover to install the filter to begin use. Called customer service and they could not help either. Finally yanked it off and installed it with the idea that if it comes apart the next time I will just throw it away.

Filters the air in an 11 x 12 foot room okay but is almost as noisy as a leaf blower in doing so. I would not buy this product again and would not recommend it at any price over $10.00.
Love it! Great price & does a great job!     On: 2009-09-10

This is a fantastic air cleaner at an affordable price.

I house-sat for some friends and they have an air cleaner. After a few days, I noticed I no longer woke up stuffy. After returning home, I browsed Amazon for an affordable unit for my apartment. Based on the reviews, I got this Honeywell and Im thrilled with it.

It sits on my nightstand but doesnt take up too much room. Sometimes if Im listening to something on my laptop and cant hear well, I will turn the air cleaner down but usually I keep it on max. It does make a sound like a fan, but I like that noise, especially when I sleep. It has 3 settings and the lowest is very quiet.

I love that I will not have to buy replacement filters for this also. One of the filters is like a flat piece of foam; the other is similar to a cars air filter. I have already pulled the foam piece out and pulled all the dust off of it. This machine works! I also like the separate switch for the ionizer.

We are two people in an apartment with 2 cats and a smoker. This air cleaner has been fantastic. I have it in my bedroom now and am thinking about buying another one for my sons room.
Clears the smoke smell     On: 2009-09-05

Me and my husband love to smoke apple flavored Hookahs and the smell just lingers forever in our apartment after. We run this while were smoking plus an extra 1 hour everyday and our apartment smells fresh when we walk in the door.
could have been worse     On: 2009-08-30

i didnt notice any change at all for the first couple days, but once it got everything out of the air i started to notice a change. i did have to the door closed to the room it was in and the room was smaller than what it said it could handle. i wouldnt use it on a room any bigger that what it is ment for.

worked great in a closet to take the musty smell out of my marching uniform though
Strong, quiet unit     On: 2009-08-25

This quiet, yet powerful unit is a good match for my recording studio. Glad I found it......
Excellent for small room     On: 2009-08-23

My son has a dog. The smell is almost gone. He sneezes a lot less. He told me it makes a lot of heat so during the summer he needs to open windows often, and it might increase your aircon bill.
Don't leave it on for too long     On: 2009-08-18

If youre the type of person who is allergic to almost about anything whether its mildew, mold, dust, or dander, then this is the product for you. I got this for my room and it made me breath much better. I had a hard time breathing sometimes because of the thick dirty air (?). However, I would warn you that if you keep it on for too long, you start to realize the air is getting a funky smell - sort of like plastic. I think thats when the ionizer has been left on for too long. I say, only turn it on for like 30-45 mins everyday or every other day. Otherwise, this is a great product for a bedroom!
This thing is great     On: 2009-08-10

Before I got this I couldnt sleep in my bedroom because Id wake up stuffy and coughing a lot. Now that I use this I sleep great. Definitely worth the money.
Great for child's bedroom w/allergy     On: 2009-07-25

I just purchased this unit for my childs bedroom. Difference in air quality is immediately noticable and the white noise at high speed helps with sleeping.
Shoddy craftsmanship     On: 2009-07-21

The clip on the front grill broke off when I was following the instructions to get it open. Made in China, the cheap plastic clip is easily broken.

Poor craftsmanship, poor design too.
Going to return it, waste of return S&H charges.
Review     On: 2009-07-21

The air purifier works fine. None of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. I have an expensive Oreck and plan to test each one to see how much dust they capture. For the price it is a bargain. The filter alone would cost $40.00 to replace.
great for allergy sufferers, excellent price, value points     On: 2009-07-16

I did a lot of research on room air purifiers, Some were only ionizers, some had hepa filters. The Honeywell has both options. It has a soft filter in front and a hepa filter behind that. Three speed settings the lowest is pretty quiet the highest is noisy, but if there is smoke or dust just blast it on for like 15 minutes. I recommend getting a small table fan to assist to blow air into the unit, it helps. The unit works as advertised. Priced at around 50 very good deal. Unit has a nightlight feature and the ionizer has a light as well

Small gripes, knock down one star... Very short cord. The is supposed to be placed 3 feet from the wall and not us an extension cord, hey give us a 10 foot cord please. The Ionizer only works while the hepa filter is on not independently, although there are two separate switches. Also the switch for the hepa filter is in reverse order you have to slide it past the high setting in order to turn it off, which gets noisy if someone else is sleeping in the room.

Overall very good, I use it in a 12X12 bedroom works fine. Had it one month now so I waited for a review. The filters are permanent but if something happens they can be purchased from the company website.

Worked somewhat until the smell started     On: 2009-07-07

Had this product running constantly in a small room for about 6 months. I know it did something at least, because I had to clean both filters frequently due to dust. But it never did much of anything against the cigarette smell (I dont smoke, but the rest of the house does). After a few months it began to emit a seriously bad odor. I cleaned everything and let it sit for a few weeks, then let it run for a couple of hours outside. The smell remained. I thought about changing the filter, but golly, isnt it supposed to be permanent? Buyer beware.
My nose feels better.     On: 2009-07-06

This was the latest addition to my allergy free zone (aka my bedroom). Along with washing bed linens weekly, employing mattress and pillow protectors, dusting, and never letting our pets in the room, this HEPA filter has helped me and my spouse breath easier at night. We both snore a little softer, and wake up with less crud in our noses & throats. The room the filter is in is slightly bigger than the recommended dimensions, but it seems to work okay. Its a HEPA filter... so its noisy... but it does have three fan settings as well as an ionic option. We use the "quiet" fan at night... which drowns out soft snoring and heavy breathing. On that setting, the fan is more than loud enough to hear through the ear plugs I sleep in.
clean sir     On: 2009-07-04

So far so good had it for about 5 weeks and its still chumming away. After the second week i could tell dirt was beginning to build up on the filter and its very tolerable on low. The ionizer started making clicking noises for some reason so i turned it off, they sound like little static discharges, but are unnoticeable unless actually try to listen. Havent turned it off since i got it, only thing with filters like these is that the motor may burn out so ill turn it off soon to give it a rest.
Good for what you pay     On: 2009-06-29

This tiny little filter was my first buy and an attempt to stop the consant stneezing in the office as well as cut down on the dust/pet dander that kept clogging up my desktop computer. It seems to work well: no more sneezes! Its very easy to get going and fits nearly anywhere. My only negative so far has been that trying to get the front grating off to clean the various filters is quite painful on the fingers. Otherwise, a great product for a small area.
WOW     On: 2009-06-27

I REALLY ENJOY THIS PRODUCT. I DONT FIND THE NOISE LOUD OR DISTURBING. PEOPLE HAVE COMMENTED HOW FRESH MY HOUSE SMELLS. I AM A HEAVY SMOKER!
this product helps     On: 2009-06-14

this purifier definately helps with my asthma and household smells but i would recommend getting a bigger one than is required for your room size if you have more sensitivity to allergens like i do but other than that this works pretty well and given the way others are made to require buying filters i would just use multiple of these adding 1 or 2 each time until the air in the room is cleaned as fast as required to your sensitivity level
Very Good Product     On: 2009-06-11

Very small and quiet but good enough to filter a large bedroom and take away my allergies. I was able to run it every night for about a year before the filter needed cleaning.

The lowest setting sort of goes "whoom whoom" and the highest setting is a bit loud, so I like the medium setting. Also the ionizer makes a clicking noise that some people might find annoying, but I dont really use that function much since ionization doesnt really do anything (from what Ive read).

You should mainly get this for the low cost and permanent HEPA filter. It is great for allergies or breathing problems at night, and the noise it makes is soothing. I looked into ozone generators but read they can be bad for your health. Hope this helps.
Honeywell HHT-0911 Tabletop Air Purifier     On: 2009-06-05

I bought this for my office. It is perfect! Small quiet and really makes a difference in the air quality of my small office. I was a little hesitant since some of the reviews said it became noisy over time. I have it on the low setting which seems to work just fine and is really nice white space sound. I am thinking of getting another one for home.
Effective Product     On: 2009-06-03

This is my first time buying an air purifier. After reading the many positive reviews I decided on this one. I initially bought this for the living room (unfortunately - I smoke) it did ok but I think the room is too large and open for it to work effectively. However when I transferred it to my bedroom (8x12) and closed the door and put the purifier on high it worked perfectly - (I never smoke in my bedroom). The room "feels" fresh and I wake up MUCH less congested. It is a little noisy but it helps me fall asleep. Ive had to wash the spongy filter twice since I purchased it but my house tends to be a little dusty.

The only problem I had when the air purifier arrived its front cover did not fit correctly and I had to tape it shut. I should have sent it back. Usually Amazons shipments are well packed this one was not which may have caused the problem.

Overall Im satisfied and will probably purchase another for my home office.

Nice little filter     On: 2009-06-01

Its a little smaller than I thought it would be (its like a big toaster oven), and the only room it could completely filter would be a VERY tiny room, like a dinky dorm room. The ionizer makes a small popping sound when its on, which is tolerable and tells you that its working and is generating electric charges, however when the ionizer is on there is a green light that comes on that is impossible to sleep with if the filter is facing you, so the ionizer is really just a day-time function (unless you put some duct tape over the light). This is a fairly quiet filter, which means that its not very strong. Those huge round Honeywell filters are very noisy, which I like because it means they are powerful. Those filters are meant for entire rooms. This filter is really just a portable, personal filter to clean the air immediately around you -- and it does a very good job of that. Another advantage it has over a big filter is that you can place it right in front of a window and it will suck in the outdoor air and fill the room with fresh, filtered air.
Tabletop - I Got a Good One     On: 2009-05-20

Everything perfect - excellent service, excellent product.

I use it with the ionizer on, and makes a big difference in my allergies and sinus drainage, clears up the mucous stuck in my throat, no more clearing my throat constantly.

I have it near me in a big living room, about six feet away (bought it to suck up my cigarette smoke, chain-smoker, tired of washing and painting walls from brown cig tar), and it freshens the area where I am just fine. Plus the wonderful surprise added effect of making me feel better.

My son said the ionizer freshens the air like rainfall does, and sure enough it feels fresh like that, it lifts my spirits.

Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly, and take the plastic wrap off the pre-filter on the inside front.

When putting the front panel back on afterward, it took several several tries to get it to latch right, but finally got it on.

The sound, whether on low or medium, is like a box fan set on low, sounds just like a fan, which is soothing white noise to me.

I keep it set on low, and freshens the area by me wonderfully, love it.

A few days after son talked me into using the ionizer feature, for just a few seconds I did hear it make a few crackling noises, then immediately after, one LOUD pop. After that few seconds episode that one day, it has been fine ever since, luckily.

Mine doesnt rattle or vibrate or travel across the bare wood table, stays put.

It does make the air around the area cooler, will feel good in summer, since I dont have air conditioning.

From the reviews I read here before buying, I bought mine from Amazon since they have a good exchange and return policy.

So if you happen to get a bad one, like some reviewers did, send it back and try for a good one.

I highly recommend this tabletop air purifier.

Honeywell Table Top Air Purifier     On: 2009-05-19

Very satisfied     On: 2009-05-02

My wife was having a lot of trouble sleeping every night because of the dust and allergens in my house. She would constantly wake up in the middle of the night, sit up, and complain that she couldnt breath.

I got one of these for the bedroom, ran it on high the whole day that I got it, then turned it down to low and left it on ever since. She has seen almost a complete turnaround since. She sleeps all night, she says she can breathe easily now, and we both get a great nights sleep. Even I have noticed better sleep in myself, and I wasnt even having trouble before getting it. I never noticed the smell in the room before, but she claims that it took that out of the air too.

The filter is very easy to clean, just pop off the front and vacuum it out. I definitely recommend getting one of these. I plan to get one for the livingroom.
Very Pleased....     On: 2009-04-29

I am very happy with this product. It has three speeds. I have it in my bedroom so at night while I am sleeping I put it on the slow speed which is very quiet. During the day I turn it to the high speed which of course is a little louder but more efficient. It also has an optional night light!! It is very easy to clean as well. I bought three of them!!! :))
Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter     On: 2009-04-29

Handy Room Filter     On: 2009-04-27

Before installing this Filter we would always see, and had to clean a fine film of dust from the desk and equipment. After installing this Tabletop Air purifier dusting the room is not a daily chore anymore.
Not having to change the filter every 90 days certainly helps with our older Air filter that was a true hassle plus the Honeywell is reasonably priced.
Great for the bedroom     On: 2009-04-27

My boyfriend lives above smokers. We got this as a second air purifier to reduce the smoke smell in his bedroom. It has made a huge difference. I like that you can turn the ions on and off because when they are on there is a green light that would be annoying when we are sleeping. I also like that there are no new filters to buy. It runs quietly and works well for the small space.
too noisy     On: 2009-04-17

Ive had this for about a month and cant know how well it actually does its job, yet, but its much louder than the Sunbeam that it replaced. I had the Sunbeam in the kitchen and a Holmes in the bedroom and both of those were much quieter than this Honeywell. You probably wouldnt want this in the room where you sleep unless you need to drown out some other noise. And just to be clear, I keep it on the low setting. The noise is sort of like a hair dryer on low.

Ill try to update this review when I can see if the thing works. With my other air purifiers, the dust removed from the air could easily be seen on the filter and the initial foam piece that picks up the bigger particles. These would get filthy pretty quickly. I bought this Honeywell, this time, because the filter doesnt need to be replaced. I hope it still does its job.
It's good     On: 2009-04-17

I like it, had to clean filter after 7 days, but now its been about 3 weeks. Its not very noisy on the medium setting.
Not a true HEPA filter     On: 2009-04-16

The description on Amazon does not say that this is a HEPA-type filter. However, the manual states "HEPA-type" multiple times, so this is not a true HEPA filter. Unfortunate since I wanted a true HEPA filter and the product description is misleading.

Ive had this for one night thus far, and it works fine for now. Medium and high settings are too loud -- loud enough to take away from watching a movie in the same room. Ive put it on low, and its a quiet hum.
Works pretty good for the most part....     On: 2009-04-07

Bought this for our bedroom in which our 5month old sleeps in there for now, very good on low for white noise however low isnt enough it doesnt seem and medium and high is a little loud, no problem though just crank it up when you arent sleeping. This unit will cool the room down a bit though, been using it throughout the winter and needed a space heater to make up for the cool air it produces (should be perfect for summer), but no biggie cool air is fresh air. Cleared out the slight dog smell and air is definately cleaner. I would recommend this product, does its job well on high and holds its own on low.
air purifier     On: 2009-03-27

This little air purifier has really helped my allergies> I am not sure it is big enough for the space I have it in and am thinking about purchasing another one for the other part of the house. I like the white noise ,it helps me sleep.
You get what you pay for     On: 2009-03-26

This is a $50 piece of plastic with a filter. Nothing special # settings which dont matter because high should be used at all time. The dumbest feature that is a light that does nothing. If you can locate the machine in the dark then u can turn it on or off, or change the speed. the light is redundant. Despite this the unit is 4 out of five considering its only 50 shells. (optimal price worth estimate is $20)
not convinced     On: 2009-03-23

I have had this unit running continuously in my sons room since I received it. It seems to be well made, and quiet enough, but I really dont notice any difference in my sons allergy symptoms.
Great     On: 2009-03-23

I love this item. I keep the Purifier in a room where I smoke and it is so much better with the cigarette smoke and odor. Im very glad I ordered it. What a difference!
Small and Sufficient     On: 2009-03-19

Im giving this air filter a rating of 4 and not of 5 simply because I dont know what kind of miraculous feats are obtainable with such a machine having never owned one before.

My husband and I purchased 2 of these after discovering that he and our oldest daughter were allergic to our 4 (indoor) cats. We keep one in our room and one in the girls room. Thus far, I have noticed that the whole house (less than 1000 sq. ft.) smells nicer, and my husband and daughter do seem to be sleeping better. Our daughter has asthma and has not needed her inhaler since we have had these filters. Could be the filter, could also be the change in medication... Could be both!

I crank up all the settings during the day and then turn it way down at night. It is a little noisy in my small house with both filters turned up during the day, but at night on the lowest settings we all sleep fine and what little bit of noise there is seems comforting.

The filters are easy to clean. The machine was easy to snap together and the instructions for use were clear. All in all, Id say it was completely worth the money put into it and perhaps I will invest in one to sit in my office as well, due to the proximity to the litter box...
perfect little purifier     On: 2009-03-15

For the price and the size this thing is amazing. We have 2 cats and 3 dogs and the rooms in the house that these run in always smell fresh and clean. I really like that it has a permanent filter and a washable pre-filter. There is very little noise on the low and medium settings but the high setting sounds like a hair dryer on low. Ive only used the ionization a few times and dont notice much or a difference so I just leave it off now. We dont have any smokers in the house so I cant comment on how it works with tobacco smoke.
Perfectly satisfied.     On: 2009-03-14

I have been perfectly satisfied with my Honeywell Tabletop Air Purifier.
It is considered adequate for one room, but my house is small and with the furnace air circulation in the winter and the air conditioner in the summer, it is does the job well.
A little too noisy for bedroom but works very well.     On: 2009-03-05

I bought this after reading about the quiet reviews but I find that these reviewers must be loosing their hearing. I place it at the end of the room and at the lowest setting, this unit sends a hum with the same level as a room fan in medium setting. You can still sleep with it but the noise is ever present and it is not silent as others claim. I turn it on medium and high setting in my 10x12 bedroom only when I leave for work, otherwise low setting. I have reservations about using this unit for the babys room because of the level of noise it emits. There is a separate knob for turning the ionizer ON or OFF depending on which camp you are on about ionizers. Ionizers produce ozone. My opinion is that ozone are okay in low levels so you can turn the ionizer on momentarily when your not in the room. The reason ozone producing ionizers are used in the air purifier industry is the ability of ozone molecules to neutralize offensive odors. Honeywell does not recommend turning ON the ionizer for asthmatic users so this is a great option. The nightlight can be turned OFF but I like to use it and leave it ON. Minus 2 stars for the noise level otherwise works great! My HHT-145 tower in the living room has 12 fan settings and it can be set to almost dead silence at the lowest settings. If you have a bigger room, get the HHT-145 tower model. I am giving the 5 stars to the HHT-145 model. Both models use PERMANENT HEPA like (traps 2.0 microns or larger particles) and not a true HEPA (traps 0.3 micron or larger particles) but I can live with this. You should use a true HEPA or HEPA like vacuum cleaner to clean the filters since you cannot simply wash/rinse them clean =(.
Worked Well For Six Months, Then Became A Detriment, Contaminating My Air     On: 2009-02-25

When I first purchased the "Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter" I was ecstatic at the thought that allergens, dust and other air contaminants would be filtered, especially for the price. My room is extremely dusty so I needed some sort of solution and I hoped that this was it.

For the first six months the purifier worked efficiently, or seemingly so. I ran the it, as recommended, 24 hours a day nonstop. When Im not home I ran it on the high setting (there are three settings), medium when I was around and low when I slept. I cleaned both the outer filter and inner HEPA filter regularly as a lot of contaminants were being filtered. I noticed a somewhat significant difference in the air quality of my room (11.5 x 8 ft) during this span.

After sixth months the purifier was rendered useless and actually made the air quality worse. The contaminant intake became less and less, the dust in my room begun accumulating faster (I still dust frequently) and the purifiers fan was blowing out unclean air - air that reeked heavily of dust.

I highly doubt that the HEPA filter is efficient forever and needs no replacement. It is charcoal grey and transmits little light when held to a light source (not sure if this is significant as compared to a car air filter test). I do as the manual suggests and vacuum it (more frequently than recommended) and I vacuum/wash the outer filter regularly. Another review mentioned that the purifier became filled with dust and grime over time; the same thing happened to mine, as evidenced when looking down the air vent. I tried to clean it out by blasting 180+ PSI of air with my air compressor, but it did nothing to help. The dust was very thick, almost lint like, and would not budge at all.

To make matters worse the purifier is fastened together by hexagonal security screws (Im sure the average household does not have the required screwdriver). I recently bought the screwdriver and opened the purifier to clean it out, and found that the inside was a horrendous mess. Every surface and mechanism was layered with dust. The insides of the tubular fans were coated with dust as well. The task of carefully removing components to access all compartments for dusting was tedious and took some time. Ive cleaned almost all of the contaminants from inside the purifier, but I am still very skeptical about using it again in fear that I will have the same problem again, perhaps in less time than before.

To sum it all up, this product was good for about six months until the inside of the purifier became festered with dust, and it was extremely tedious to remove it all. Im not sure when this accumulation of dust began, or for how long the HEPA filter has been ineffective. The purifier does not filter all contaminants, instead sucking some into the interior and spitting it back into the air in my room.

With all of that being said, there are numerous positive reviews on this product; perhaps I am an unfortunate rare case. For the price Id say it is definitely worth a try, but be cautiously optimistic if you decide to make the purchase.

too noisy     On: 2009-02-09

The filter works well. Thats the good news. Not so good is that there is a 3 speed fan control. It goes from loud to louder to loudest.
Solid room air cleanmer     On: 2009-02-08

Good table top air cleaner. Moves the air fine in a 8 X 10 foot room and is fairly quiet so it does the job intended. If you are looking for more from this unit you might be disappointed. But for the price and the performance it meets expectations.
Good price, works well.     On: 2009-02-08

This little air purifier works well when used in the correct setting. Of course it wont perform well in rooms that are just too big for it. Its no louder than a fan would be. So far so good.
Cleans the air nicely     On: 2009-01-29

My husband and I purchased this after quite a bit of research. Our new downstairs neighbor is a heavy smoker, which made our apartment stink like crazy and made our allergies MUCH worse. We keep it on nearly 24/7, usually on the medium setting at night and the high setting with the ionizer on during the day. Sometimes when the ionizer is on it clicks, but not always.

The bottom line is that it makes a huge difference in the air quality. Only on the calmest of days when our neighbor is smoking like crazy do I smell smoke. I usually just more the purifier to near the vent to help.

As for the cleanable filter--its great. Since it is on constantly I have to clean it every month or month and half. Its pretty easy though, you just pop off the cover, rinse the outer filter and vacuum the inner filter.
Honeywell Air Purifier Review     On: 2009-01-25

Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter
REVIEW

The product works well for the usage that I have for it. Mainly bedroom and home office. I enjoy a cigar from time to time, and it helps eleviate those cigar odors that drive the wife crazy.
It is not however, high duty for big rooms .. nor is it a quiet machine, especially on the high settings.

Nevertheless, for small areas, for which it was intended, it works very well. Espcially for the price!
great tabletop purifier     On: 2009-01-23

my son has allergies, bought this for his room. sleeps thru the night and is very quite. love the fact its a permanent hepa filter. would highly recommend this for a smaller room.
Filters and deodorizes the air well.     On: 2009-01-22

The filters are easy to remove and clean.
Nightlight is just bright enough, and is useful.
Ionizer switch also has a separate light when turned on.

The product works. The air feels cleaner after using overnight. The ionizer deodorizes as well.

I would purchase this product again, and I would recommend it.
Good for the price but not the best     On: 2009-01-10

This purifier worked well in a small room for the first 6 months or so but gradually has become very noisy and doesnt seem to perform as well as it did in the beginning. The motor squeaks and squeals now after only 9 months of use and is especially loud on the high setting. Also, the air output smells dusty because the unit is full of dirt. I do frequently vaccuum the HEPA filter following the manufacturers instructions, but I have no way of cleaning out the dirt that collects in the fan and motor.

I was very pleased with this purifier for the first 6 months and it probably would have lasted much longer had I not used it 24 hours per day as the manufacturer suggests. Overall good value and will perform well in a small room. Plus no need to buy filters.
Great product, strange clicking sound when ionizer is on...     On: 2009-01-09

This product is really helping me sleep with its air-filtering capacity and white noise creation. My only complaint is that when the ionizer option is turned on, there is a strange intermitent clicking sound.

It does not occur when the ionizer is turned off. Im not sure if it is normal, but its a slight annoyance to a great product.
Works great.     On: 2009-01-08

Ive had this air cleaner in a small bedroom where I sit on the pc and smoke quite a bit. Ive used it for a couple of months now and it works great. It is fairly quiet on the medium setting and the outgoing air shoots straight up so you dont have those annoying cold winds blowing on you in the winter. I would recommend it for 12x12 or smaller areas.
No more sneezes     On: 2009-01-07

I have to say that even with this purifier on low (24 hours a day) I have not sneezed YET in the week I have had it. I have only one and am getting another for the other part our apartment. I currently move the purifier each night into the bedroom. That means that Im operating it in two separate rooms only 12 hours a day, so its REALLY working for me. We have two cats, and I recently discovered I was allergic to them. My only complaint is that the filter light has come on after only a week. A week? It will come on for an hour, then off, then back on again a little later. I havent tried cleaning it yet b/c Im 1) lazy, and 2) just feel like its too soon. Still, thats not a big deal. I think for $50 its a great deal. Its also much smaller and lighter than you would think. I was going to get one of those Ionic Pro knockoffs, but then I felt they looked a little too much like cat scratch toys. I havent really noticed any difference b/w having the ion feature on or off. The weird thing about that setting is that when its on there is a permanent green light. Yet, you have the option to turn on a DIFFERENT green "night light." So basically, if you use the ion feature, youre getting a "night light" no matter what. If youre someone who needs darkness while you sleep, the ion green light IS a little bright for not being something you have the choice of turning on or off.
Decent results for the money     On: 2009-01-02

I have bought this purifier as a present for a relative with a new baby. It does seem to make the air cleaner and it eliminates smells pretty well.
However, the sound of it, even on the lowest setting seems to scare the baby and therefore has to be turned off when the baby is in the room, which does not allow to run it for the recommended 24 hours.
Also, the front grille doesnt quite snap in place, a defect in assembly I think for this particular unit; however it is not possible for me to exchange it as I brought it to another country.
Overall, I think I got my moneys worth out of it. It works well for small rooms with no small children present to be scared of the noise.
Nice filter, good price     On: 2008-12-20

I really like this filter. I have had asthma since I was a child and an air filter for almost as long, but this is one of the nicest. The compact size is terrific. I leave mine on my bedside table!
Unreliable and dangerous product     On: 2008-12-16

I suffer from multiple chemical sensitivities (severe allergies). I thought this product would help with my condition. But when I first got it and started it up, it released an "oil" smell that really bothered me. I then ran it outside to see if I could burn off that smell. That worked, but the smell remained in the room. Even after running the purifier for a couple of days, the smell did not clear up. I got rid of the smell only by airing out the room. But it did seem to help with keeping dust down, and it kept the room from smelling "stuffy" with the door closed all day.

I then ordered two more purifiers for other rooms. This time, I ran both outside before using them inside. But one of them still was releasing an oil smell. Even with running it for several hours outside, I never could get rid of the smell from that unit. But the other seemed to be okay, so I used it for about a week.

But then mysteriously, the "clean filter" light came on. That made no sense. I checked the filter, and it was still clean. So I tried running the purifier, but it had stopped working on the "low" setting. Fiddling with it, I thought I had it working, but then it began releasing some smells that caused me serious problems allergy-wise. It so contaminated that room that I had to clean and wash everything in it to get rid of the smell.

Then a few days later, the exact same thing happened with the first purifier I had gotten, which was now only a month old. But by the time I noticed it, that room had gotten contaminated, and I had to clean and wash everything in it. All of this cleaning and washing really caused me problems as I also suffer from fibromyalgia.

At that point, I returned all three purifiers, after they had really caused me serious setbacks health-wise. So I would say, do not get this product if you have a problem with allergies. It is unreliable and outright dangerous.

Great Product     On: 2008-12-12

This works perfectly for my needs. I was getting horrible congestion in the evenings when it was time for me to go to sleep. I decided that perhaps it was an air quality issue after trying many other things without success. I ordered this after reading others reviews on Amazon. The difference it has made is amazing. I can sleep through the entire night now. I run it on low...which is about the same amount of noise as a white noise maker...and never feel as if it is too loud. The small size is great because it doesnt take up too much surface space. If you need a purifier for a smaller room, than this is the one to get and for this price you really cant beat it.
Good unit but noisy!     On: 2008-12-12

This is my third air purifier in about 15 years. Its by far the easiest to take care of and cheapest to maintain. The filter change light is a plus. Seems to work well for a bedroom. I would always keep my last air purifier on high, as I like white noise while I sleep. This one though, has some kind of odd-pitched hum to it. The fan sound itself is very soft on the lower two settings, but the hum drives me crazy. Maybe its just mine? I hope I get used to it.
I wish it worked     On: 2008-12-01

The description clearly states: "Designed for rooms up to 8 by 10 feet, this 55-CADR tabletop air purifier offers effective air cleaning with permanent filtration and little maintenance. The units washable pre-filter captures large particles, while its permanent HEPA filter removes 99-percent of airborne particles such as dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, cat dander, and mold spores from the air that passes through the filter."

It is in the only room where people are allowed to smoke. And it does nothing to remove the odor -- even running all night after one cigarette. Absolutely nothing. If I hadnt recycled the box I would return it.
Great air purifier for the price!     On: 2008-11-28

I had this purifier for a couple of months now and it works great! Im not 100% sure that it is actually cleaning all dust and all that, but it still goes trough a filter. I also dont think that the ionizer does much/ or anything, but then again I cant really tell the difference. For $60 I say get this air purifier. I use this to cool down and hopefully clean the air around my computer. The noise is tolerable and the fan is strong. If price is not a factor for you then you might want to look into a true HEPA air purifier (this purifier HEPA "type" filter), but other than that it works great!
Love it     On: 2008-11-20

I waited a few weeks before writing this, to make sure the unit didnt decline in quality quickly. Its really fantastic. I use it in my bedroom, and have run it 24/7 for at least three weeks on low - turning it up once in awhile when I cook something strong smelling.

The low setting is not silent, but nice consistent white noise for sleeping.

I noticed a difference within hours of setting it up, and continue to notice a difference in air quality, smell, and dust.

Ive added this unit to my Christmas wishlist, because Id definitely like another one for my home.
Bad quality or bad luck? Consider my review.     On: 2008-11-19

I initially bought this honeywell air purifier for my bedroom to remove dust and to reduce odors. But I had to return it twice because it was defective.

Pros:
-Saves you money, its the only air purifier with a permanent filter that you can just vacuum to clean.
-Noise is acceptable on low, for the price.

Cons:
-Serious quality issues. Its seemingly a gamble if youre going to get a working one, i had to return it TWICE!:

1. The first unit I received had a faceplate that was warped and did not stay on. I dont think it would filter with the faceplate half on, so had to send it back for a replacement.

2. The replacement unit faceplate was normal but the ionizer made a static clicking noise when turned on. I called their customer support and they told me that is not normal and I need to get it replaced. Note: the first unit did not do this.

- Under normal conditions it didnt seem to work that well. After running it for 12 hours on high, then 12 on low, it did not completely remove odors in my bedroom and the Ionizer was only slightly noticeable.

-For people who need it to be almost silent on low, this isnt going to work for you. I could sleep with it on but the noise was noticeable. On medium to high, like one reviewer said, youre going to have to turn the tv up!

Conclusion:
The greatest strength of this purifier is that you dont have to buy replacement filters. But I got two defective ones in a row so I have to strongly suggest you look at other purifiers or another brand.

Side note: Amazon.com was awesome about replacing it and refunding it, when a product is defective they give you a label to print out and you just put it back in the box and drop it at your local post office to return it for a full refund or replacement. Ive always had a good experience with amazon they go above and beyond to keep the customer happy. Still this thing wasted a lot of my time returning it, so think twice.
This wasn't worth any money.     On: 2008-11-11

I keep using this item. The filter hasnt need changed yet. The outside white area is getting messy from us smoking and the dust we have problems with. But the filter hasnt even gotten dirty yet at all. This machine is no where near worth $1. Think will have to start doing checks on others to get advice on things before making purchases.
This is for Small Rooms...     On: 2008-11-09

I got this machine because it was in my budget. It does work,
It does clean up the air in the room and makes the room feel
fresh and cool, but its really for SMALL ROOMS, i.e. it doesnt
work very well in my big living room. Its lightweight and about
as big as a small CD stereo. its easy to set up and clean, super
easy. Some reviews claim its too loud, but its not any louder
than a small fan during the summer.
Almost can't believe it!     On: 2008-11-07

O.K., I know I have only had this air purifier for 1 day, but I just couldnt wait to write a review for it. After reading the simple instructions, I plugged in the purifier at about 3:00 p.m., left it at the highest setting, and shut my bedroom door. Before going to bed, I turned the setting down to "2", and left it there all night. Last night was the first night I slept through the night in quite a long time, and when I woke up, I could actually breathe through both nostrils! This may not be a big deal to some of you but for me, it was an amazing feeling! I am now considering buying one for my office. The price was right, and it does a great job for its size! Love the fact that I do not have to buy filters every couple months!
Works for me!     On: 2008-11-02

I ordered 2 of these at the beginning of October... one for the living room, and one for my bedside table. So far, these purifiers seem to be doing a great job!
The low setting is a pleasant white noise that I can easily sleep through, and the TV easily drowns it out. I use the higher settings when Im at work during the day.
I like the fact that I dont have to keep buying filters for it. Ill find out in January how easy it is to clean!
Bottom line... I like them so much, I wouldnt mind having one for my desk at work where I find myself sneezing more than I do at home!
Fan / Air Cleaner     On: 2008-11-02

Just 3 Stars, I cant really tell if the ionizer works? Fan and Air Circulation gets the 3 Stars, Not 5 cause the filtration/Ionizer is hard to know how well it really is doing? But for the price and dust filtering it could get 4 Stars.
A great purchase     On: 2008-11-02

I purchased this hoping the sound would comfort our baby. It does! It creates a pleasant sleep environment and we wake up to cleaner, fresher air in the bedroom. The night light provides just enough of a green glow to see our baby at night, but does not keep us from falling asleep. One piece of advice - just dont forget to take the plastic wrapping off of the filter before you use it.
Good air cleaner     On: 2008-10-30

Pretty good in filtering dirt and improving air quality. Just somewhat noisy when going full blast.
great!     On: 2008-10-18

My 6yr old daughter has asthma so we thought this air purifier would help. We keep it in her bedroom and leave it on all day. You can actually see things going into this purifier. Now we are thinking about getting more for other rooms.
Pound for Pound     On: 2008-10-16

Pound for Pound this is an amazing air purifier. I live in a dorm and I have always had bad allergys. I have to get up for work at about 6 am. Usually when I would wake up I would be sneezing, have itchy noes, and girls that slept with me said that my allergies really were bad in the middle of the night.

Ever since I got this thing I have been getting much better sleep, and my allergies have not once woke me up in the middle of the night, and best of all my allergies dont rip me apart at night anymore (or so im told).

One of the main reasons i got this thing was for dust, as my room gets dusty really fast. This hasnt really helped much with dust and the air circulation seems to have decreased a bit over the 3 weeks ive had it, but im not sure of this because its still having the same overall effect that it did the first week. I hope it works months down the line, but right now its impossible to tell.

Pound for Pound a great deal, especially compaired to some of those other air purifiers. 500 bucks... ouch 10% of the cost with half of the effectiveness... i should have gotten two
A Very Noisy Purifier     On: 2008-10-16

I just returned this item and amazon took $12 off for restocking fee. So I decided to write a review now to share my experience. The unit is small, which is good because I could put it on a table. One small thing that annoyed me was that the unit actually moved little by little when it was on because it was vibrating. So I had to put it on a more rugged surface to keep it from moving.

The purifier worked perfectly fine for the first several days. It produced a humming sound, and it wasnt loud. I could definitely have it turned on while reading without being distracted. The highest level was quite noisy, but still it was within reasonable range of noise. Bottom line: if it were like that all the time, I wouldve kept it.

Unfortunately, after several days, the unit became extremely noisy and produced a noise like popping popcorn in a microwave, even when I set only on the lowest level. Then the noise became intolerable and I decided to return the item.

Perhaps it was because I got a defective unit or what, I dont know. But before buying it, I read some reviews on amazon indicating that the unit is indeed very noisy. Some reviews, however, suggested otherwise, that the product is excellent. Given the mixed reviews, probably the risk of getting a very noisy purifier like mine is not extremely small. Hope this is helpful.
sleep like a dream     On: 2008-10-09

I did not believe this small air purifier would make such a difference in my sleep . the quite sound and the refreshing air coming from the unit lulls me to sleep. I can tell the difference in the room . the air is fresh and without masking in air fresheners . one great unit
so good i'm buying another one..     On: 2008-10-03

Great product and fast shipment by seller. I bought this mostly for the white noise for our daughters room and I love the vacuumable filter. Shes used to the noise of the larger Honeywell model, but with this one on the highest mode its great. Im purchasing another one for our babys room.
A little noisy, but worth the price!     On: 2008-09-11

I bought 2 of these air filters for mine and my sons bedrooms, and I have to say that our allergies are much better. However, for use in the bedroom, it must be turned down to low overnight, or it keeps my son up (hes 7) it bothers me as well, although Im getting used to it. For those of you who like a little "white noise" when sleeping, this would be fantastic. High speed is VERY loud, compared to other units Ive owned in the past. I have not had it long enough to have to clean the filter, but Im very pleased with the filtering quality up to this point. Ive definetly noticed a differece in us both. Overall, for the price it is an excellent little purifier.
After only 6 hours, already making a difference     On: 2008-09-04

I have numerous airborne allergies. Perfume is one of the worst offenders for causing an allergic reaction for me. I work in an office setting and it is difficult to avoid perfume, flowers, paper dust, etc. I was getting tired of missing work due to a severe allergic reaction so After reading the reviews, I ordered this last week hoping that it might help clean the air space around my desk.

I received this air purifier last night, and brought it into work this morning. Following the directions, I set it up and plugged it in. I have a 6 x 6 cubicle without a door so I wasnt sure how well this would work. It is sitting on my desk about 16 inches from me and after only 6 hours it has made a big difference. Of course, I will only run it during the day when Im here as I am using it to purify the air in my immediate vicinity. I like that I can adjust the fan speed -- low, medium, and high -- as when I need to talk on the phone I lower it to the low setting. When not on the phone, I can run it on the medium setting. I am also using the ionizer.

The only problem I have with mine is that the night-light switch doesnt work so as long as I have the purifier on the night-light is on. Not a big deal for me as Im not trying to sleep at my desk!

Good Filtration, Too Noisey     On: 2008-09-03

I believe that the unit filters well. It is louder than I expected, even on low speed. Hi speed is really loud. Im a little disappointed.

Cleans the air well     On: 2008-09-03

I really like this unit for removing pollen and having a better sleep at night.
Pretty good     On: 2008-08-29

I dont really feel the effect or difference this filter makes. The only time I really felt it was in the living room when it sucked away all the odor. I have a cathedral ceiling apartment. So this poor small thing might not get enough time to clean out all the air inside my bedroom when run in setting II. Its not that noisy as some of the reviews suggest. I am satisfied with it.
Got rid of stinky old smoke!     On: 2008-08-15

I feel like I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of the old, yucky smoke in our apartment. Nothing was working, and I was almost ready to buy a $500 smoke/air cleaner. I am sooo glad I tried this first. We noticed a difference in the smell of the room within a few HOURS. I leave it running 24/7, and I put it on high at night, and low during the day (the high setting is a little loud, but low is barely noticable to me.) I can see now why everyone wants to get several for every room in the house. I am thinking about doing the same. GIVE THIS A TRY!
Neat little unit for the price     On: 2008-08-12

My thoughts were a little overambitious when I thought that placing this among my plethora of electronics would mean that I didnt have to do any dusting of my computer, etc. This is hardly an industrial strength unit, but it is cheap, quiet, and there is definitely less dust than there was before.
Great little filter for the money     On: 2008-08-12

Dont have a lot to say about this filter. It works great. It is a little bit noisy, but we have it in the bedroom, and we all sleep better with some white noise, so it is not a problem. I wouldnt plan on using the "night light" as it isnt even as bright as a LED display on the alarm clock, but other than that, this is a great machine.
Air purifier     On: 2008-08-12

Seems to help me sleep easier at night and wake up breathing easier.
I really love the permanent Hepa style filter. That was a real selling point to not have to buy expensive replacement filters.
took care of allergies-but very loud     On: 2008-08-05

My wife has various allergies and before bed,it was a miserable time for her with sneezes, etc.
I got her one of these air purifiers and in only a few days, the allergy symptoms disappeared. These are very effective at cleaning the air.
The only drawback is that they are rather loud;so much so that we both turn the unit on "high" as soon as we get home from work and leave them on w/ the door closed until bed-time. So,be warned, they are good and inexpensive air purifiers, but are pretty loud. Some may have no problem w/ leaving them on at night but that didnt work for us.
If not for their loudness,Id give them five stars.
Great Product!     On: 2008-08-01

This was the first air purifier I have ever purchased. I bought it because we recently found out my daughter is allergic to our cat. Within a day, I could tell the air purifier was working. The air seemed to be more fresh as soon as we started using it. I want to get one for other rooms in the house now!
Great Value!     On: 2008-07-28

I ordered one of these and love it so much that now i have two. These machines are best used for a small to medium room. I have one in my kitchen, one in the basement and need to get another for the bedroom and living room. Easy to clean and like not having to purchase new filters.
poor quality     On: 2008-07-25

It is a lowest quality product there is: noisy and getting noisier every day, it starts vibrating more and more, plastic parts are falling off, smells plastic staff and so on. In addition, the sale store Toyzz would NOT take it back!
Wow! Happy with this     On: 2008-07-03

Well my husband and I have allergies to cigarette smoke. Our roommate is ill and refuses to quit smoking. We have done everything except hermetically sealing him in his room. The smoke still travels out to the hallway and then the AC sucks it into the system and sends it through the whole house. I put this unit in the hallway between his door and the AC intake. WOW!! it has almost completely knocked out the smoke!!! We are Very happy with this unit.

I have to make a reply to someone who said this unit was noisy. It is really barely audible. It has a low mid range tone to its hum ... and that is on High. It is certainly less noisy than say a 10 inch personal fan.
Seems to work     On: 2008-06-29

Have used it 24/7 since buying. It does seems to work well with allergies (but hard to tell since pollen levels etc... along with allergies have good and bad days).

Did like it enough to buy a second one (but I bought it branded as VICS hepa-filter ... it was less expensive ... but apart from the graphics on the box, and the tiny triangular spot on the front being vics-blue-v colored it is identical)

Use hose on vacuum to clean the hepa filter when the indicator light goes on.
Works well     On: 2008-06-20

This product works well for the price and theres the bonus that the filter doesnt need to be replaced all the time. It isnt full HEPA quality, but who really needs that in a home. I have it in my bedroom. It has eliminated most of the dust from the air, and I havent had to clean any dust off of surfaces since I started running it. It is fairly quiet at low speeds, though not the quietest on the market I suppose.

Overall, a great product for the price if youre not working in a medical environment where you need full HEPA level filtering.
Air Purifier     On: 2008-06-09

This product did the trick. All the hackers around me can continue to HACK ON because I got the purifier and I dont have to hold my nose every time someone forgets to hold theirs...WHEN THEY HACK!

THANK YOU JACK.

Peace.
Gets the job done - no filters to change!     On: 2008-06-04

This is my 2nd air purifier - the other was a comparable model by Holmes. I learned from my first air purifier that you really have to leave it on all the time or the revolving motor will collect dust, not work as well or as quietly. If I dont want it on constantly, I just put a clean towel over the top to prevent any dust/dirt from building up.

The noise level is acceptable to me, in an 8x10 room. I usually leave it on LOW, which sounds a bit like a fan on low speed, but MED is good too - it has a nice white noise effect. I only put it on HIGH if theres a bad smell or lots of dust floating around (for whatever reason). HIGH is a bit loud for my taste. This machine tends to rattle a bit as it sits on my bureau, but a small towel underneath it took care of that problem. Also, give it time to warm up when you put it on. It starts off slowly, but works at full speed within a few minutes.

I have allergies and noticed a difference immediately when I got this model. My symptoms have improved greatly, even with 3 cats in the house. I would recommend it to anyone who has a small space, doesnt want to buy new filters and is perhaps on a budget. Good machine at a decent price.
Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier     On: 2008-06-03

Nice looking unit that can fit about anywhere. However it does not appear to filter a lot of dust or particulates out of the air.
Even with 2 cats, does the job     On: 2008-06-01

I bought this purifier hoping for some relief from my wifes 2 cats. We put this in the back room (where the litter box is), and it is working like a charm - except for immediately after a "deposit", there is no smell emanating from the back room.

Note the size of the room, however - it isnt going to work in a big room. Our back room is about 5x8, and it works fine for that size.
A loud but okay worker.     On: 2008-05-13

While sketching, reading, or just kicking back there are few activities I doing simultaneously in my room dedicated just for the purpose. Smoking is one of them.

I purchased this Honeywell air purifier to help tackle the rather strong and unpleasant smell of my enjoyable, yet unhealthy and publicly scorned, habit.

How it works:

+ Air circulation is pleasant
+ On high the unit will get rid of the scent in about a half-hour.
+ On medium the unit will mostly get rid of the smell within about a half-hour.
+ On low the unit will mostly get rid of the smell of the last cigarette about two hours after I put it out.
+ Operation on medium produces tolerable levels of background noise.
+ Operation on low produces barely audible noise.

- Operation on high is as loud as a hand-held Dust Vac or hair dryer.
- Despite the increase in noise, there is no discernible difference in performance (I am a smoker so it could be the ol tobacco)
- I dont know what the lightbulb button does other than wasting electricity by turning on a seemingly pointless LED which shines dully beneath the plastic cover.
- Ionizer makes an irritating electric popping sound.

Conclusion: The negatives are minor compared to the benefits and low cost of the unit which is why I rate 4/5
Better than I expected     On: 2008-05-10

I got this model for my sons bedroom. It does a great job and is a nice source of white noise. Were planning on getting a larger model for our open spaces since my husband suffers from allergies.
A must for computer desk smokers     On: 2008-05-10

I bought this for our desk, as we both are on the computer quite a bit. My husband has a website and spends lots of time there, and as a smoker, and also with a woodstove and 3 dogs, I was tired of washing the walls and windows in the winter.

Its saved my walls and windows, along with another larger unit in an opposite corner of our main room. Easy to clean and wash, no expense for filters like my 600.00 model (which is now in the bedroom and pretty much worthless). The noise on medium is certainly tolerable and not offensive in the least, and draws all smoke directly into the unit. Honeywell is certainly the best of all the units weve had, or experienced in our construction business.

First one got lost in mail, Amazon was very quick to replace it with fast delivery. This is the 2nd one I have bought. Love it!
Something Isn't Right     On: 2008-05-04

I bought this air purifier for the name and size and the permanent filter aspect. Its a great size for my babys room. The grill over the filter doesnt fit well and it isnt very quiet and kind of buzzy. I actually stopped using it in the babys room after a few weeks due to an electrical smell that was coming from the unit. Its not the ionizer because I didnt use that feature. Its something coming from the motor. When I start the motor on low, it barely turns. I have to run it on high for a few minutes to "warm it up" so that it will spin at a decent rate on low. I feel that the smell is the motor windings heating up due to it straining from bad alignment or bearing or something. I definitely wouldnt recommend this unit due to these problems. From the other reviews, it sounds like this is not always a problem. It must just be a quality control problem.

I also bought the Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort. It truly is quite on low but its a lot bigger. I managed to fit that in the tiny room. It works great. I can hardly hear it in the baby monitor. I do recommend this one if you can spare the room. Larger fans are naturally more quit anyway.
perfect for my needs at a decent price     On: 2008-05-02

I am using this in my daughters room. She has allergies (dust mite, danders, grass, ragweed etc.) and had been coughing for months. I have noticed a great improvement in her sleep, far less coughing. On high speed this is a little loud, but not as loud as an a/c at all. Medium speed sounds like a fan and low is just white noise. My kids like sleeping to the sound of a fan...so medium speed is perfect for us. The fact that you can wash the filter and do not have to buy replacement filters is what drew me to this purchase...not a lot available at this price point that have washable filters. Very happy and back to buy a second for my son!
My review...     On: 2008-04-28

I highly enjoy this item. Sometimes, the night light comes on randomly. But my room smells nice and fresh now!
Dinky     On: 2008-04-28

I know $50 is not a lot for a supposed air filter, but somehow I was hoping for a little bit more. It just seems like a fan sucking air through styrofoam and a filter. I suppose Ive noticed a slight "purifying" of the air. This air purifier is not quiet at all. Sure the humming retreats to the background after a while, but its very noticeable upon entering the room. Its not completely dreadful, but in the future I will definitely invest in a more capable air purifier. And it doesnt do a thing for cigarette smoke. Haha.
A good, quiet, affordable air purifier     On: 2008-04-23

Im really glad I purchased this. The 2 things that won me over were:

1.)The permanent filter-I hate buying things that cost a lot to maintain. So, this was a HUGE plus for me.

2.)The price.

Ive got 2 of these in my home and it seems to be working really great. The high speed setting sounds a lot like a typical fan, set to high. But the other 2 speeds are pretty quiet.

The nightlight is a neat feature, and if youre like me, and require absolute darkness in order to sleep, it can be turned off.

I highly recommend this to anyone whos looking for an affordable and effecient air purifier.
Permanet filter??? Read the fine print!!!     On: 2008-04-21

After a 3 weeks relation with this unit, this is the result: you get what you pay.

Get a real one. Permanent filter will cost you +$40, if your room doesnt fill the fine print that says its "permanent".

Noisy, after 1 week you hear the ionizer making cracking noises and causing the night light to turn off itself.

Save some headaches and get and Oreck.

Very disappointing.
Efficient little quiet machine     On: 2008-04-18

I have many air cleaners as I suffer with allergies. I think this is the best of all of all machines big & small. It is quiet, efficient, and it does the job. I am buying another one.
Incredibly Quiet     On: 2008-04-10

I had hesitation buying a HEPA filter for my office. My current HEPA filter in the bedroom is pretty loud. However, after another horrible few days of allergies, I knew I needed to make my office be a safe haven from allergies. I saw good reviews here, and decided to try it out.

Im thoroughly impressed. On silent, this thing is whisper quiet. I couldnt hear it over the regular noise here in my office (which isnt much). On medium, you can hear it, but its quieter than my fan I usually have on. On high, its pretty noisy. However, thats expected.

One complaint is that it claims HEPA, but its not. Its HEPA-Type, a difference in that HEPA specifically filters 99.97%. This claims 99%. Although a technicality, it may be important for some people, and thus should be said. For me, if I can get 99% gone, thats fine with me :)

Highly recommended -- Im ordering another to replace the noisy one in my bedroom.
Disappointed     On: 2008-04-10

I ordered this product for my husband; he works in a small office with two other people and a lot of dust. Initially, he complained about the "burning" smell, then after only 5 days of use, he informed me that he no longer had to smell the burning scent because it no longer worked.

The performance and quality of this product are great. I am not so certain I got the best price for it, however.
What a difference!     On: 2008-04-07

Makes a huge difference. We put it in a bathroom that has a litter box which had previously made the adjoining rooms dusty. SInce putting it in, it has made a DRAMATIC difference...and the adjoining room is 20x20! It is a bit noisy when its on its highest, so we leave it on the Medium setting when going to bed. Great product, especially for the price.

Great Compact Purifier     On: 2008-04-01

I bought two of these, one for my sons room and one for my room. These are perfect for bedrooms, and nice and quiet. They give off the perfect "white noise" while sleeping, I love it. I also have the Honeywell 50250N big purifier that I keep in my front living area. You can tell a big difference in the quality of the air in my house now. My sons dust allergies have basically gone away. I would recommend this unit or the big 50250N to anyone that wants clean fresh air inside the home.
Exactly what we wanted.     On: 2008-03-30

We just bought this for our 18mo daughters room, perfect size and fan settings. The low setting is very low, not silent because that would be worthless for a hepa filter. We use it as a white noise machine also so low is good for nighttime but medium or hi are good for daytime naps:) We used the Honeywell 17000 series floor hepa filter before and that was great but she started playing with that so this model is on top of a bookstand. Both are great for baby rooms! But if I would have seen this before, we would have bought this model instead of the 17000 series.
Great for the bedroom the noise doesn't bother me     On: 2008-03-29

Last Friday we made the mistake of going to the Humane Society to "look" and came home with a kitten. We already had an adult cat, and I am only mildly allergic to him.
Well she sheds like crazy, and I woke up Saturday with my face swollen, congested and just plain miserable. I ordered this last Saturday, it arrived on Tuesday and its been doing a great job so far.
There is already an air quality difference between the bedroom (where this Honeywell is) and the living room. Our bedroom had a musty winter odor before, now its smells super clean. I already noticed that there is less cat hair on my comforter.
My husband is also a smoker, I never realized how bad the smell was until I woke up this morning and walked out into the living room. I almost gagged. I walked back into the bedroom to make sure I wasnt loosing it, and sure enough there was a major difference between the two rooms.
It is a bit noisy, but we keep it on medium. However I am one of those people who has a hard time sleeping without the tv, not anymore. The minute I am in bed, I am out.
My husband who told me today that he hasnt slept with the fan on since we bought the Honeywell (he likes the white noise).
Another thing is that we noticed a temperature difference in that room, its much cooler. This might be a problem for other folks, but we also like a cooler bedroom.
I think its very likely we will buy one of these for every room!
Happy     On: 2008-03-23

I bought two of these - one for my bedroom and one for my living room. I have been very satisfied. It is barely audible on the first setting. I am especially pleased with the permanent filter.
Strong Enough to Cut the Smell of Guinea Pigs     On: 2008-03-21

After 5 years of life with the smell of two guinea pigs, we decided it was time to cut th odor out.

I researched products on Amazon and selected the Honeywell HTT-001 as a matter of economy and for use desired . I like that the filters are permanent because a)reduces waste and b)cuts costs.

Ive had this purifier for two weeks, its on 24/7 at setting *one* with the ionizer *on*. By day two there was a marked difference in air quality. By day four, I couldnt really smell anything (unless I was directly next to the cage for feeding and cleanings.)

Our boys are housed indoors in the corner of our living room, which opens out into the dining area. Their smell was the first thing to great our guests, typically . Now I can hardly *smell* theyre there.

The noise is minimal at this setting, but audible. Settings 2 and 3 were considerably louder, but the trade off may be worth it for those seeking an economic way to keep their air fresher.
Quiet vs Silent     On: 2008-03-21

Just received this machine from Amazon and it appears to be similar to many of this type; namely, a foam pre-filter and the usual paper finned "HEPA" filter. Expect it to perform similarly. Just for those who care - it is quiet - meaning the motor is not particularly noisy - but not "silent" like the Oreck and more expensive machines. So if you are looking for a truly silent machine this is not it. Will edit this review after Ive had it for awhile and can report on its performance.
Great for office     On: 2008-03-18

My co-worker & I pitched in to purchase this product & are very pleased. We share an enclosed office in a large production warehouse & noticed that were constantly finding dust in the air. Weve been using the purifier for about a month now & have noticed a difference. We havent had to dust since (usually we had to once a week)! We both feel much cleaner & would definitely recommend this!
Exactly what I was looking for.     On: 2008-02-25

This Honeywell HHT-011 tabletop air purifier turned out to be just what I needed. It sits on a dresser in the bedroom. It is very stable, does NOT shake or vibrate, but produces a kind of "white noise" that is amazingly conducive to sleep (you can barely hear it on the lowest of the three speeds)we keep it on the medium speed. The air is cleaner, we no longer sneeze upon waking, and I dont need to dust as often. One of my main reasons for buying this product was that it has a permanent HEPA filter which can be cleaned and reused. (Our PREVIOUS air purifier was large-taking up too much floor space, it was too noisy, it was an electricity hog, and you needed to buy a new replacement filter as necessary - costing way too much to run.) THIS PRODUCT is compact, powerful enough to keep the room fresh and clean, easy and not expensive to maintain. I am very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend this air purifier.
Good item for a fair price     On: 2008-02-24

Ive so far been very happy with this product I have not had it long enough to require the cleaning yet but I love that it has that option. The model I had previously is almost the exact same thing but this has the filter that can be cleaned. That saves me a lot of money just from that option!
I would recommend this product.
Excellent Value     On: 2008-02-22

I bought this item based on past positive experiences with Honeywell items. In a bedroom, it is amazingly quiet on the lowest fan setting. The ionizer is a neat feature in this price class, although the night light feature with its UFO greenish glow is kind of stupid, but at least it can be turned on or off. The medium setting is comparable to the low setting on the old air purifier it replaces. The washable/reusable pre-filter is a great idea as this is the part of any filter that gets dirty first. Since the HEPA filter only needs replacement every couple of years under normal use, the savings of not having to replace the older style fixed pre-filter/HEPA combo is a huge bonus. Highly recommended for small rooms.
It helps     On: 2008-02-13

It filters dust well when the mortor is running at the higest speed, but this also means much noise. Also, I had to tape the cover to the main body of the machine to silence a rattling sound. At the lowest speed, the machine is not that effective because not much air can go through it. The machine has an ionizer, but I dont think this works. (I own a different type of air purifier by another manufacturer, and I can smell the difference in the air when its ionizer is turned on.) Overall, the machine helps to capture some of the dust and fibrils generated from beddings and childrens activities in my enclosed house in winter.
This works great!     On: 2008-02-08

I just received my air purifier today after reading the reviews here.It is a great buy.It worked almost instantly to remove the stale, moldy smell in my old house(my sons room)and his runny nose and watery eyes cleared considerably-in just one day.My mother, who has emphysema has one in her living room and bedroom as well, and they have considerably helped her breathing problems.
Permanent filter a plus     On: 2008-02-08

Love it. Cleans the air really well, and I like the option to turn the ionizer off or on. Bit of noise, but doesnt bother me in the least. Great for a table top or shelve. And I love love love the permanent filter. Saves time and money.
This air purifier actually works.     On: 2008-02-02

For the past few months I have add an unpleasant odor coming from the air ducts. I tried to mask it with candles and air freshener but nothing seemed to work. I have had this unit set up running in my home office for only four days and the odor is gone. The whole house seems to smell better. Im delighted. I may buy another one for the bedroom.
Quiet and powerful air purifier with no filters to replace     On: 2008-01-10

I have other ionic air cleaners, as well as one that requires a filter. This air purifier is quiet and due to its compact size, can be placed off the floor on a bookcase, dresser top or top shelf which makes it optimal for space-saving and placement. I dont particularly like the noise from air filters and they have a tendency to keep me up.

After spending many dollars on replacement filters and new air cleaners when the filter is no longer made or easily available, this is a welcome addition with a permanent cleanable filter. I bought two of these, one for my bedroom and one for the living room. Set on low all of the time, it is great as it just sounds like a little white noise and is not noticable most of the time. The optional ionic on and off switch, night light, as well as the automated light indicating that the filter should be cleaned is a BONUS besides the low price. So far, I am enjoying cleaner air in an old dusty house with 3 cats and 2 dogs...

I have bought the Sharper Image ionic breeze for the bathroom and find it hard to clean and hope that when I have to clean this filter. Good value for the money.

Works great!     On: 2008-01-01

I have only had this air purifier for less than a week, but I am amazed at the results. After the first night of using this in my bedroom, I woke up and could actually breathe. My nose is normally clogged in the morning. Hopefully Ill be able to stop sleeping with nasal strips soon! Also, my dog has had watery eyes for a while and has been having a runny nose the past month or so. I didnt even think about the purifier helping with this problem. I happened to notice after the first night of using the purifier, her eyes were not wet around them like they normally are and her nose was not running. I also purchased a larger purifier to use in the living room, so hopefully that will help both my dog and myself for times other than while sleeping.

The noise isnt too bad, but I am used to sleeping with a humidifier. The high setting would be too loud to sleep with. I use it on the medium setting during the night and my humidifier is also on medium during the night. The humidifier is definitely louder than the air purifier.

I would definitely recommend this air purifier to others. I may even purchase one to take to my parents house and use there when I stay overnight. My dad smokes and my eyes, nose, and throat are typically burning after one night. Maybe the purifier will help clear the air in the room I sleep just a bit. Im sure my mom will also run it 24 hours a day while Im gone to help with the smoke!!

I have a ferret and bought the unit to put in the room where the ferret is kept. Ferrets have a noticeable scent (to put it mildly). Now the room smells the freshest in the house.

The unit is loud. I can hear it from another rooms. But for the price, I can live with it.

I was having 2 to 3 asthma attacks a day. I live in the country and the wood smoke from nearby houses was causing me serious problems. I have had no asthma attacks since I started using this product at night. I put it on its lowest setting and it is very quiet. Better than the steroid inhaler my doctor had me on.
quiet little air purifier
by: sell5813    On: 2007-12-07

I brought this one recently to replace the sharper images ionizer purifier, since I want something to shut off the ionizer -- the air has some smell from those ions.

This unit has three speeds. Another switch to turn on or off the ionizer.

The lowest speed can push enough air comparable to Sharper Images high speed, without much noise. If no one talks in the room, you can still notice the sound. But if anyone talks or the TV is on, then you would not noticed the sound, even in a 8x10 room. Middle and high speed push 20-50 times more air than a Sharper Images ionizer purifiers. I wish it has a feature to push a button to boost the air flow to high speed for 15 minutes, then fall back to slowest speed...

For the price of a tank of gasoline, and free shipping from Amazon, buying this is no brainer....
Piece of Junk     On: 2007-09-07

I would advise not purchasing this product. I believe the motor in the unit is of poor quality. Tilt it in any direction and it noticably wavers. This is not the sign of a long lasting motor. Additionally, the unit is too loud to sleep to, especially in a 10x8 room. It generates a choppy fan noise about three times a normal air conditioner.

I cant comment on its air cleaning capabilities because I am returning it.
I recomend it     On: 2007-07-23

excellent product, i use it in my bedroom and works fine... for all that has allergy problems this air purifier helps to reduce dust near it.
Works fine for me     On: 2007-06-25

I might buy a second one for my home office. As another reviewer mentoned, it is a little noisey on high, but the second setting (which seems powerful enough for my needs) has a pleasant hum that acts as white noice. It has a nice stable design...because it sets square and low, my cats havent been tempted to try to push it over (some air purifiers looks a little too much like cat scratching posts). Instructions on how to use and clean are easy to follow. Im not sure what the ionizer is supposed to do so I havent used that feature, but so far I seem to be sleeping better with it running than I was without it, so I am assuming it is doing ts job. No complaints so far.
I still have not turned it on!     On: 2007-06-01

This thing is sitting on my desk - still in its box - It looks very pretty. Im thinking about taking it home instead of using it at work.... Well see
Easy to maintain, compact, great white noise     On: 2007-05-29

I like to sleep with white noise, and the air purifier that I had required a new $20 filter every 3 months, so I was happy to get this model with a HEPA filter that needs to only be vacuumed. The outer filter is washable. This model has an ionizer (which Ive read some bad stuff about) - but it can be shut off/has a separate control.
Nice little air purifier -- perfect for a bedroom. The two lower settings are very quiet....but I like the high setting to drown out all those nighttime noises!!!
