Was exactly what was purchased. Very happy with the product. Works well, produces quality tasting water, lasted a long time. On: 2010-03-05This is my first water filter. The quality is there. Keep it chilled in the fridge and its some of the best tasting water Ive had. Its well worth the money, everyone should have one of these. The taste and gallon/price ratio makes it worth it alone. Also, who knows what is leaking into your city/well water. Makes coffee taste great too. Heres a trick that they probably dont want you to know about.. When your filter stops working, it isnt because the filter itself stopped working. Its because the mechanism inside the filter housing has clicked all the way over and stopped the water flow. If you think your water still tastes good and it probably did right before it stopped flowing on you.. Simply remove the filter like you were going to install a new one.. and the mechanism in the housing resets, then reinstall the filter. Now you can extend the filter until you wish to replace it. I would recommend replacing it eventually though. Price is Awesome! On: 2010-03-05I have owned a Pur faucet mounted filter for over 3 years and the only thing that happened was the front plastic part cracked and broke off, but it wasnt necessary anyway, just more for looks. I was buying filters - 2 for around $29 at the military commissary and thought it was very expensive. Look at this price that amazon offers!!!!! Cant beat it and my filters lasted for over a year. I keep about 6 small bottles of pur water in my fridge which also saves me from buying those small bottles of water. This may seem like a lot to pay all at once, but it saves you so much in the long run. I am going to reorder today as I only have one left from my earlier purchase over a year ago. They were almost as expensive to buy 1 online as well. I went with the 6 pick at less than the cost of 2 individual filters would have cost if I had purchased them online. My girlfriend has the same filter, so I gave her 3 of the filters. It takes a while to go through 6 filters so it would be best if you could find another person with the same filter and split the cost and filters. We saved a tremendous amount on this 6 pack and they fit just perfectly. No reason not to get this bargain ... Great tasting, not long lasting!  On: 2010-02-07Ok, We switched to Pur water faucet mounts and filters one year ago. We began using this product because we moved to a new place that had really nasty tasting water and we had been buying jugs of water from the store. We really got sick of lugging all of that water home every week so we decided to give this a try. We started using it and were so impressed. The bad taste instantly went away and it was great. Five months later ours started leaking from the front it so we went out and bought a more expensive one hoping that would help. Once again about 5 months later it started leaking again so we bought the newest model with the sensor and it was chrome and we had high hopes. Within 3 days the sensor had broken, and within two months the thing started spraying out everywhere whenever you turned the water on. Seriously? I know it sounds stupid but we have now replaced it again. This one does seem better designed but is still the same cheap junk. Im sure this one will not last either. Listen, if you really want clean great tasting water this product will achieve that, but you have to be willing to shell out money for the filters and replace the faucet mount at-least two to three times a year. For us it is easy and convenient and we havent seen anything on the market that can really compete. I guess we will just say a little prayer that the company will get their act together, listen to the customer feedback and make better made long lasting product. Until then I guess we will wait and see how long this one lasts. No More Bottled Water On: 2009-12-05I moved to Florida from the northeast several years ago, and one of the first things I noticed was the quality of the drinking water which, to put it politely, leaves something to be desired. And so for the first time in my life I found myself buying bottled water in plastic jugs for drinking and cooking. Lugging gallon-jugs of bottled water, and having to dispose of all those empty plastic bottles on a regular basis, became tedious and, to my mind, wasteful. Then I came across these at a local retailer and decided to give them a try. Voila -- the difference was truly amazing. My local tap water went from worst to first!! At $22 a pop for replacement cartridges at a local retailer, it was worth the cost. But now, having found these on Amazon at $51.99 for a six-pack, the cost has become a virtual non-issue. Kudos to Amazon and PUR!! Pur Filter Review On: 2009-11-15The 3-stage replacememt water filters from Pur do an excellent job when placed in the faucet-mounted unit I purchased! I have always been kind of a purity nut about my drinking (and cooking) water, so was skeptical about changing from Acquafina bottled water (the only brand I found to be without a mineral after taste). I was pleasantly surprised when the filters lived up to the brands claims. I have now completely switched to filling water bottles (saved from my bottled-water-only days)with the Pur-filtered water and refrigerating them. I have found the water quality to be just as mineral-free and it has a fresh, clean taste (unlike some bottled waters and water fountains, and tap water which can taste bitter and "cloudy". Have you ever reviewed the water quality test results your local water service sends out yearly? That alone should prompt you to do something to assure the water your family consumes is filtered! On: 2009-10-02I have been using these filters for a long time and found this to be the best deal yet. Filter Fine On: 2009-10-02What is there to say about Pur filters? I feel they are great for the amount they filter and the price. Alas, like many other people I too suffer from water filter casing leakage. The last case I had prior to this one leaked also. I called Pur and they said that there was nothing they could do for me as I had discarded the original packing box and there are numbers on it that they needed. When I bought its replacement I kept the box and it was a good thing as the casing that holds the filter began leaking also. This time armed with the original box I phoned Pur and the person I spoke to was unaware of any problems with leakage. I mentioned the numerous people who had taken the time to write reviews and their problems all were about the housing leaking. The person I was speaking with took the numbers from the box and said a new filter housing would be on its way. My advise is to keep the whole box that the filter and housing comes in and if you have trouble with leaking call Pur and if they say its an unheard problem mention the reviews on various Internet sites written by people with the same problem, leakage. As to if they will follow up with the product? Well its only been a couple of days now and I was told it will take 2 - 3 weeks to arrive. At no point was the Pur representative nasty nor was I, just matter of fact and mentioning the Internet and the immediate "well replace the unit" tells me that Pur IS aware of this problem and in using honey rather than vinegar to attract bees is a good way to approach this issue, at least for me it was. We had a problem with sulfur from our well water so we bought bottled water for tea or coffee and just plain drinking water. The PUR water filter attaches to the kitchen faucet and uses these filters. We bought the unit in May and as I write this review it is now Sept. Were still on the first filter so I am impressed with how it lasts. The manufacturer never claims that it will remove sulfur odor but I liked the sound of the 3 stage CHARCOAL filter. I took a chance and it paid off. The water is odor free and has a wonderful fresh taste. It simply tastes the way fresh water should taste. Our experience with this product has been 100% satisfactory and I would recommend it to my best friend in a heartbeat. My PUR Filter Produced Foamy Water  On: 2009-07-18The last PUR filter produced a soapy-like foam on top of the water. At first I thought there was soap left in the glass, so I washed the glass a number of times and compared the water from the tap with that coming from the PUR filter. Over and over again the water from the filter was foamy. And yes, I would let the water run for 5 seconds before filling the glass--though the filter should NEVER produce foam. To be fair, this is the first time this has happened. HOWEVER, what had we been drinking before the foam became apparent? What was the foam? It definitely came from the filter. If one filter does this out of 10, then is the filtration system really safe? Can it be trusted? I dont think so. Im going back to bottled water. Water never tasted so good! I live in an agricultural town that uses well water with questionable quality: high mineral content, sulphur odor, and the possibility of agricultural pollution. These filters made a drastic difference in the clarity and taste of the water. Is agricultural waste really contaminating my water and does this this filter remove it? I havent had the water tested, thus I dont know for sure. There are also mixed opinions about town as to whether bad water is a problem. However, letting my taste buds judge, Ill guess this makes a difference in removing pollutants that I can and cannot taste. These are relatively low-cost filters when purchasing in bulk. The faucet mount for these filters is a different matter altogether, and I think it is a shame they are not built to the same quality standards as the filters they hold. [They only have two kinds anyway -- three-stage and two-stage. :) ] You save a lot of money when you buy the six-pack. Im satisfied with this faucet-filter system. Water tastes good and its less than half the cost of buying one gallon or 2.5-gallon drinking-water bottles at the supermarket. The only drawback is that it takes about 2 minutes to filter a gallon of water. But, then, you dont have to carry water from the grocery store. Also, the filter lasts for only about 25 gallons and then the indicator light starts flashing red, not 100 gallons as it is claimed. I didnt have leakage problems with this faucet system as mentioned by some others. Buying them here works out to less than $9 per filter and they come right to my door -- a pur no-brainer. just to make it clear On: 2009-01-04I read a lot of these reviews and seems that many people have different opinions about these filters.The truth is that these filters are cleaning your water pretty well but they dont last too long.The factory states that the filter is good for filtering 100 gallons of water ....nice statement.....they dont lie as long as your city water is pretty clean and free of debris before entering your filter....but that doesnt happen to often,so the more filthy your city water is the less water your filter will clean before becomes clogged and needs to be replaced.Due to the many complains about the life of these filters ,the company changed their item "description" to a 40 gallons instead 100.Thats more accurate.....some people will get more than that but most of the users will get less.I am using these filters for 3 years now and the most I can get out of them is about 30 gallons of clean water.Taking in consideration how much they cost,I can say that Im not saving much but at least I dont have to go out every time Im running out of drinking water.You might think that maybe it will be a good ideea to look for another type of filter maybe a different brand name but keep in mind doesnt matter what kind of filter you are using if the city water is dirty the life of the filter will be greatly reduced. A Pur rip-off On: 2009-01-03We picked up a Pur faucet filtration system for my home about six months ago. We also bought a lot of Pur filters. They were very expensive (why does plastic and carbon cost so much?), but we figured that good water was worth it - particularly since we have a little boy. Our water is city water. Its not bad, but we thought it wouldnt hurt to be a little extra safe. Its just too bad we went with Pur. The filters are supposed to last for two months or 100 gallons. So far, only one out of TEN filters has actually lasted that long. The rest have died within one to three WEEKS. The water stream quickly became very weak, ending up as mere drops. We were always careful to follow instructions, never ran hot or warm water through the tap...still, no matter what we did the filters died in practically no time at all. We contacted Pur, and they claimed that our water must be incredibly bad. We dont believe that this is the case. We get city water, and its analyzed on a regular basis; its not particularly hard or soft, and nobody we know has ever had any problem with it. We used other filters in the past, and never had this problem. And its not as if we got a bad batch of filters; weve bought filters from several different stores over a period of months, and theyve almost all been awful. Approximately $10 per filter is a decent price if they work as indicated, but when they only last 1/8 as long as claimed, they become a rip-off. Once we use up our final filter, well be looking for a new filtration system. Ill never buy from Pur again. Pur Water Filter On: 2008-12-28Great value for the price. We have very good water when it reaches this filter. Yet, this filter can only process about 22 gallons a month before it needs to be replaced... it just stops working. I know exactly how much it uses before it "dies" because I fill a crock with the filtered water and drink from that. The crock holds 2 1/2 gallons and I fill it twice a week. I replaced the filter on Jan 8 and it needs replacing today Feb 12.... exactly 5 weeks later. Ive gone through 5 gallons of water a week for the first 4 weeks and today could only get 2 more gallons out of the filter for a total of 22 gallons. There has to be a better way.... This leads me to believe that people may be changing out their filter prematurely as I keep using it until the annoyance of waiting for the slow water overrides my laziness of changing the filter. So Im averaging about 1 filter every 2-3 weeks. At first I was upset because the filters are expensive and were advertised for 2-3 months of usage. But our filtered water tastes MUCH better than the normal tap water (and the strong chlorine smell was filtered away) so it seems as though the filters were doing their job. Recently, I received a notice from our town water utility describing the local water system. Apparently none of the town water is filtered, it comes straight from the NYC aqueduct and gets chlorinated, but thats it. The town we live in is fairly old so I imagine the water pipes are quite old. Also, our house is over 100 years old so I suspect that the combination of unfiltered town water + old water pipes is allowing a lot of sediment to clog our PUR filter. I would much rather spend some extra money on filters to ensure clean water than to worry about whether the filters lasts a long time. The water in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is generally good campared to many other communities, but what spurred me to use filters was what happens after the water leaves the treatment plant. A friend of mine works for the water-sewer department here. After his first week he went out and bought water filters once he saw what was in the pipes leading to the homes. I am using my second filter in seven months and I am completed satisfied with quality of this product. If you are new to filtered water devices, my suggestion is not to turn up the water pressure too high when dispensing filtered water through your facets. My original 20 year old one-arm bandit kitchen facet had to be replaced because I believe a guest turned up the water pressure too high when filtering the water and the one arm bandit started leaking water at its base to its sides. Also, the instructions do not tell you how to take out the filter - only how to put in the new one. It was a little difficult to take out the first filter, but I would like to think that was not the norm. Purr 3 Stage On: 2007-11-13I replaced three of the Purr 3 stage filters for my mother-inlaw in approximately 1 year. We kept replacing the unit because she had an initial investment in a 6 pack of filters, but after the 3rd unit failed we decided to cut our losses. The units would leak upon initiation of the filter. I took the last unit apart and it was apparent that the internal o-ring seals were being damaged by the twisting action associated with activating the filter. We have had a Teledyne unit for over ten years and never experience a problem. Needless to say, the mother-inlaw will have a new Teledyne unit in the near future. The filters are easy to install, purify fairly well and add a nice (not over-bearing) mineral taste to your water. The only downside I think is that you have to replace them fairly frequently, every 6 weeks or so Id say. Perhaps thats normal though, since this is the first filtration system Ive purchased. A word of advice though, do not run hot water with the filter on, it will lower the life of your filter considerably. I made this mistake, so be sure to make sure the water is already cool before you change to filtered water, it can save about 2 weeks or so on the filter life. Overstated filter life, useless customer service On: 2007-10-06Pur Stage Three filters do improve the taste of my water. I dont know if they are actually saving me from all the bad things they are claiming to save me from. Id need a lab analysis for that. Sadly, the good news about the water ends with its good taste. As other reviewers have pointed out, Pur largely overstates the longevity of its filters. I get no where near 100 gallons; maybe about half of that. Also, the "indicator" window is totally useless. My output can be reduced to a trickle for weeks and the red lever never moves beyond about a third of the window. Lastly, dont let Purs friendly "were here to help" 800 number fool you. Its a telephone tree where all branches lead to the same destination: a dead end recording that suggests you buy another filter. Excellent - But NOT fool proof On: 2007-08-27I have been using these for about 8 years now and moved to the 3 stage when they came out. I use them primarily for drinking water and cooking. They typically last about 3 months for me. I go through a LOT of drinking water and probably less than average for cooking. Based on using them on two different water systems, I also believe the quality of the water going in makes a huge difference in the life of the filter... but then that really is just common sense isnt it? For instance, using it the week after a city wide fire hydrant flushing will use one up very quickly. I cant speak to what that means to anyone else, but it tells me it is WORKING! As another reviewer mentioned... ONE HOT WATER EPISODE WILL KILL A FILTER! It is a shame it is this way, but I have on two occasions had someone turn on hot water and let it run through the filter for a while. The filter would stop flowing within a day after that. The instructions warn against this, but accidents happen. On the other hand, I had one that would not flow at all right out of the box. I called the 800 number on the box, told them what happened and that I had put in a different filter, which worked, and then tried this one again... showing that I had done my due diligence, and I had a replacement in the mail within a week, no cost, without having to return the failed one. Also, if you buy the 6 pack, they are under $10 each. It absolutely DOES make the water taste and smell better than plain tap water. good taste, but short life. On: 2007-08-22I have used it for years in many different places and, generally, think its a good product. Other reviewers here are, however, also correct that the Pur cartridges lifespan is a bit inconsistent - it varies greatly from 2 to 5 weeks. After having water checked by the Environment Control Board in NYC, my experience leaves me with suspicion that the 2-3 months advertised lifespan is practical - the average lifespan is more like 2.5 weeks. I ordered a six-pack from Amazon right after replacing the last cartridge; it ran out shortly after the product was delivered. The companys official FAQ now seems to indicate that each filter lasts only 1-2 months (40 gallons), as opposed to the original advertised claims of 2-3 months (100 gallons). The automatic Safety Monitor Gauge (aka, ASM indicator), I might add, is totally useless - Ive had at least 4 different mounting faucet units; not single one of them reporting any meaningful level of usage. Good product - Very short life On: 2006-06-25This product is good in the sense that it works fine for the first few days. Then, water flow thins down and it becomes hard stop in 2 weeks. It is very misleading to advertize that it lasts for 2-3 months or 100 gallons. Dude!! Use and test it before you sell or advertize. The filter is good for about 2 weeks. This is far expensive than good old trusted bottled water. Dont buy this unless you are stinking rich and are comfortable with false advertisements. Product lifetime way overstated On: 2006-05-31Very, very expensive product, and advertised in a misleading way. Each of these filters lasts only 2 weeks. Daily use I get out of it = cooking one meal, 6 cups of coffee, 64 oz. drinking water, a tiny cat bowl, and 2 gallons of drink mix per week. In reality, only a very small usage. My local water has a displeasing taste/smell & this filter takes that water & turns it into .. well .. great tasting water. This filter will work on any of PURs faucet mounts. |
