fine for a while     On: 2009-10-24

This unit worked fine for a couple of years. I bought it because Whirlpool is a brand I respect. Then it slowly went downhill in performance. After a couple of months there was no water being extracted at all. The noise never bothered me since it is in my basement. Now, it starts up and after about five minutes it trips the breaker and stops. Having read the other reviews, I am not even going to try to get this covered under its warranty. I still think Whirlpool is a good brand, but Ill stick to their washers and dryers. My advice: pick another dehumidifier that has better reviews. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying a Whirlpool and paying a bit more. This was an expensive dehumidifier and I expected it to last longer than a couple of years. I have already replaced this unit with a smaller capacity Soleus (spelling?), but I am going to have to get a second unit to keep my power tools in the low humidity that they deserve.
WHIRLPOOL WARRANTY SERVICE PATHETIC     On: 2009-06-18

We have had 2 of Whirlpool dehumidifiers 70 pint model #2 AD70USS0 for 2 years now. The were purchased and installed at the same time. While loud in running, they both worked well until this last month. One started running inefficiently and began pulling less and less amounts of water even though nothing has changed in our basement and the locations of the units have not changed. Our humidity reading in our basement is read each day and we know that there has not been a change in the humidity status. The filters are clean on both. I explained all this to the Whirlpool corporation representative as we are still under the 5 year warranty. He explained to me that if it is pulling ANY water at all, it is considered "working" and if we have a technician come out we will be CHARGED if this is the case. I explained again that this unit may pull a half inch of water while the other unit has the bucket filled up and this has never happend previously. It is obvious that something is wrong with this unit. He said that if ithe unit pulls out any water whatsoever, out of the air, it is considered "working"! Thus, it appears that the efficiency of the unit is not an issue for Whirlpool. Basically, I feel that this makes the warranty coverage worthless. After calming down from his inadequate lack of assistance, I decided to send this to corporate headquarters in the event that this representative did not accurately convey the policies of Whirlpool. They referred me to their contracted serice company, A&E Factory Service. If you google that contracted company name--you will see a lot of complaints. I called the Whirlpool contracted service company and got the same runaround as I did with Whirlpool customer service. They would not guarantee that I would not be charged a service call if their tech came out. This was even after I pointed out that I had a 5 year warranty and the mfg. date of the dehumidifiers was only 2006. We even switched the dehumidifiers on each side of the basement--the one with the problem still has the problem. I told the service company this and whirlpool. So---my advice is to find a company that has a warranty that is worthwhile!
Effective, but NOISY!     On: 2006-06-01

Works very well. Removes an amazing amount of moisture in fairly little time. Unfortunately, it was designed, manufactured and tested by profoundly deaf people. It is about as loud as my old Cessna 182 without the other endearing characteristics of that airplane. Buy it ONLY if you are at least one floor away from the unit. Otherwise, get earplugs at the same time!
